WEEK 1 - Trial
| the pygmalion. . . ONLINE ![]() CAPTAIN'S LOG: WEEK (1) |
saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (40) survivors ![]() At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. At 7PM, the trial will adjourn for the day. All players will be escorted by the robots into the cafeteria. From there, they're free to head into the lounge, the viewing deck, the chapel, or back to their rooms. All other areas of the ship have been locked off, and every player will be accompanied by a robot until they return to their room for the night. Any attempts to enter a locked off room or physically interfere with the trial or evidence outside of their room will cause the robot to raise a ship-wide alarm. |

11:30pm-1am: Strider and I were in the viewport practicing and sparring. There's not a lot of people here with swords and let's pretend I was feeling a little nostalgic.
1am-2:30am: Spent some time in the chapel researching some of the archives. You're missing a ton of history in those. Doesn't matter, didn't find the answers I was looking for anyway.
2:30am-3am: The doors still won't unlock. Trust me, I've been trying.
3am-...I dunno, 8? In my room.
The rest of the time Friday morning was spent checking out the ship. I was in the offices looking around when the announcement went up. Good enough?

Body
additional note
Body
A holographic screen above the body displays two color photos of the scene when the body discovery alarms rang at 9:10 AM. The photographs are close ups - they portray Calisto's body, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check her position, it makes it easy to do so.

Host
Greetings, participants. Thank you for taking part in the first investigation and trial. If you require anything, the robots will assist you. They are programmed to escort you wherever you need, or retrieve something for you. During this time, it is recommended that you deliberate among each other to discover the culprit. You will be asked to cast a vote toward who you believe to be the culprit. This time will be signaled by a chime. Until a player has been retired, you may not leave this room.
I must remind you all to keep the rules in mind. During the investigation period, minor rule breaking was observed. I have mined my database and discovered it may be difficult for sentient beings, human or not, to recall information during stressful times. This is understandable. However, rule breaking will not be tolerated. It is ill advised, for you, and I.
I am present at all times during this period. You may ask me anything.
Good luck.
[The holographic image will remain throughout the trial. You're free to ask her whatever you want, though whether she'll answer is a different question entirely.]

Well. It seems to me the sooner we solve this little mystery, the sooner we can put this sorry display behind us.
I wouldn't call myself an expert on the mystery novel genre, but wouldn't one typically start with a murder weapon?
no subject
{ What is investigative discussions. }
Seeing as the victim had no weapon of her own, being up against someone who was skilled with that would have put her in an immediate disadvantage. The killer could, if they were careful, skilled, and quick enough, successfully strike at her without even being hit if she tried to retaliate.

I think we should talk about the victim, too. It has all of our "skills" listed on the datapad, right?
[ she pulls calisto's card on the datapad she brought, as proof. ]
It says here that she was trained in martial arts, but I don't think it looks like she really tried to defend herself. Isn't that kind of weird? And what was she doing in the daycare, anyway?

The killer probs got hurt at some point, but it may be pointless to check, depending on how the congealing...whatever...shit works. So, question: who knows how the fuck that stuff works. I am not super thrilled about the concept of cutting myself up to check but I guess I will volunteer for that if no one actually knows.
[ so yeah there's the asking ]
no subject
{ Would they be that lucky? He doesn't know for sure, and he does doubt it. }
Hmph. It's best to get that out of the way now. If you don't want to, I will.

So, took a look at the body - seen a lot of stab wounds, side effect of the profession kind of shit - looks like the key-knife would work. Right size, right length. Tested to make sure [see, professional], and looks like wound - similar anyway. Means the killer is probably pretty strong to get that knife in there that deep.
Not eliminating any other dagger that around that size so should take a look at what else we got in play here, but I'm going with my gut that's the real deal. [And he's got a lot of gut. Seems a confident statement.] Besides, killer probably wouldn't have bothered hiding it if it wasn't the weapon.

Room Searches
Should we, perhaps, investigate the rooms? We've five portraits and five rooms. I think it might be best for groups of two to take a room; that way, it's not all down to one person, but we don't have everyone traipsing about a private area.
Any volunteers? Provided, of course, the owners of the room don't object.

Room Searching
Each suspect should make a comment to this post with their name in the subject, and include a quick description of their room.]
JESSIE
At first glance, the first thing to notice might be that the room is clean. There are some colorful clothes hanging against the wall that seem fit for someone who
claims to beis a dancer like Jessie. Her profile mentions acting, so it's no surprise there's a princely outfit, a formal evening gown, and some other generic clothes. What will they do?]

an incredibly accurate trial summary so far
So...let me see if I've got this straight so far. Crowlista was stabbed to death by a magical key that could turn her into a crow? Except it turns out that she might have been the one who tried to kill someone? I don't see why we can't just throw her body out and be done with the whole thing in that case. You've got to be a huge freaking moron if you can't even succeed in killing someone with your awesome crow powers!
Anyway, if she did attack someone, then she probably scratched them with her beak or some shit and that's why they used the healing potion, yeah? And the daycare was all messed up from when they tried to catch her while she was flying away. And we're looking at clothes because...she bird pooped on the killer before she died?
Also, she has three legs? And I'm pretty sure the redhead's way too loud to be the killer?
Also we're totally calling ALwhatever Ass Lice.
[literally none of this is right please someone do an actual trial summary thanks]

a less accurate trial summary
Um. Judar is close? [ ??? ] From what I can tell, the weapon was something small like the key or possibly a dagger, but the key was hidden in such a way that would make it more suspect. The key itself wasn't the weapon, but a blade that could only be accessed through a small catch on the handle. As for the other piece of evidence, a small amount of congealing serum was taken from the medbay. Given that and the mess of the daycare, there was probably a fight between the murderer and the victim. The murderer likely used the serum—which has instructions on it, by the way—to make a small wound disappear. The serum can only be used for cuts or scrapes, so it doesn't seem like the murderer was hurt too much during the fight.
[ Taking a breath. Why did he decide to do this. He's becoming unsure and therefore his southern accent is coming out despite him trying to hide it. ] So we have some theories. One would be that the victim was planning to murder someone, the most likely of which would be Alita given that she has no combat experience or weapons. It's possible that she targeted Alita and got her to leave her room in the middle of the night. This would explain how the murderer could have known about the blade inside the key—because the victim switched it then and there. Somehow, she would have gotten the key away from a trained martial artist. I'm having a hard time believing that right now, but it does make sense up to that point. Essentially, it doesn't seem like the murderer planned this, or could have known about the blade from information on the victim's card.
There are some things that still need to be discussed. For example, the victim's body was found on the merry-go-round, but there was blood splattered in the ballpit. The ballpit, also, was deflated with some of the balls crushed. This could have been where the body fell—and there are bruises on her back to suggest that—but why move it? That would probably be difficult for someone without a lot of upper body strength.
Right now... there's no definitive evidence pointing to anyone.
no subject
I find it hard to believe Alita could have overtaken a skilled martial artist, move the body without there being a trail, and place it on the merry-go-round. In addition, her being able to only come out of that with a minor wound against someone more capable seems unlikely.
{ ... }
Looking at it logically, the murderer would be someone who is actually skilled in combat.

This is all a bit frivolous in my opinion, especially considering the one defense attorney here is dead. Defending ourselves is hardly fair, don't you think?

DAY ONE TRIAL END
In order to prevent the overheating and stalling of your organic brains, we shall end the trial for today so that you may rest and reboot. Dinner will be served in this room - please give the nearest available robot your order and they shall fetch it for you. Of course, so that there will be no risk of outside interference with the findings of this trial, everyone shall be sleeping in here for tonight. I will bring blankets and entertainment to you shortly, as well as a change of clothes if necessary.
[The screens and tablet power back up, except now they only show classic animated films and old school videogames. All bathroom breaks will be accompanied by a robot escort who will stop you should you attempt to escape back to your own room.
Feel free to thread out any of the evening's interactions under this thread.]
