WEEK 1 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (1)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(40) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. At 7PM, the trial will adjourn for the day. All players will be escorted by the robots into the cafeteria. From there, they're free to head into the lounge, the viewing deck, the chapel, or back to their rooms. All other areas of the ship have been locked off, and every player will be accompanied by a robot until they return to their room for the night. Any attempts to enter a locked off room or physically interfere with the trial or evidence outside of their room will cause the robot to raise a ship-wide alarm.

[ There's nothing out of the ordinary in the top bunk either, though it appears this is where he sleeps, as the bed isn't made super neatly. But nothing else to see here!]

[Nothing out of ordinary about the ass, either - perfect as always. He'll take a quick look under the sheets, and then climb back down.]

Well. Uneventful thus far. But that isn't inconsistent with anything we knew.

If someone was cut with a knife during all of this, just how likely is it that they didn't bleed on their clothing?

[Walking over towards the bathroom now.]

[Taking a quick look under the beds and in the sheets - totally ruining that great tucking in job sorry about that - just in case. You never know where someone will stuff something worth hiding. He just raises his voice to talk to Dorian while he's in the bathroom.]

Not very. Knife fights are nastier than you'd think. Close quarters fighting, sharp and fast. You'd probably find blood somewhere.

[ No his carefully made bed! Nothing to note here either, Kazuma is pretty boring.

As for the bathroom, everything's as it should be and nothing is out of place.

Checking anywhere else?]

[He considers rummaging through the garbage but. He doesn't really want. To do that.]

Hmm, strange.

I wonder. If we're right, and this was a case of self-defense, what will we do about it?

[ Rummaging through the garbage for Dorian. Sigh. He has to do all the heavy lifting around here: stabbing dead bodies, digging in garbage. His talents are so underappreciated.]

Probably nothing different. Someone's gotta take the fall either way - don't sound like people who let killings slide for self-defense - might as well actually pursue the person who actually killed.

[ In the garbage there's.... a scrap of paper and the shell of a hard-boiled egg.

>Investigate the crumpled up piece of paper further?]

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-12 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that right? I'm glad to know it's so simple.

[As you know, Dorian is easy going about everything, so he definitely doesn't sound judgmental right now. It's probably just that you're rooting around in trash.]
qundercover: (Default)

[personal profile] qundercover 2016-06-12 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[ Yes he's gonna read the paper, and also deal with that obviously judgmental tone. ]

I'm not saying it's simple. I'm saying that's our choice, as of this moment. We find the killer, or someone else gets "retired" in their place.

[ A lot of it is crossed out, but it appears to be magical notes of some kind. There's some easily recognizable words though pertaining to the elements and such, in addition to some notations consisting of mostly ✓ and ✘'s. ]

And if Callista had come for you in the dead of the night, I suppose you would have left her alive.

[Snatching that away from Bull testily. Which elements have checks? Anything to be gleaned.]

I am quite willing to accept that any one of us who is willing to make the sacrifice to gain their reward does so at their own risk. This is not the first scheme to tempt the vulnerable into false bargains to achieve some unknowable end, it won't be the last, and I have little sympathy for anyone who can't see that.

It's another matter entirely if one of us was dragged into this against their will.

[ You're welcome for digging that out of the garbage for you, Dorian. Do you want the eggshell as well. Is this 8 year old wizard just sitting in his room alone eating eggs? That's honestly kind of a sad image. ]

Could have. Ways to subdue without killing.

[ Not that he would have used them. Well, is the person who tries to attack Bull in the middle of the night with a tiny knife really smart enough to deserve mercy? Probably not. But. ]

We need more information to figure out what to do. Not going to get anywhere if we don't understand what happened at all - someone on that list is going to get screwed, so might as well know the truth before we start making plans to fuck with the rules. Can't bend them if you don't know them.

[personal profile] mnasthai 2016-06-12 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hey, he really loves hard-boiled eggs!

As for what can be gleaned from the note: Wind and arcane have a ✓ mark next to them. The rest of the elements (fire, water, electricity) all have ✘'s. There's also a "?" next to what appears to be a ✞.]
tevinteriscoming: (hurt. 1)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-12 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
This appears to be a list of what magic he has access to. Wind and arcane, nothing else. That's consistent with what we spoke about.

[Calming down a bit from his snit once Bull appears to concede his point.]

All right. I'll concede that that's sensible enough. Just...understand that I think it would be a mistake, for us to become a part of this. We don't yet know what the entity behind this is, or wants of us. Conceding to its logic and sacrificing one of our number to it strikes me as precisely the type of engagement we ought to avoid.

qundercover: (herbskillz-da-ib-03)

[personal profile] qundercover 2016-06-12 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Bull's not really about to get him fired up again - he agrees, for the most part. Simply playing by the rules and doing nothing else isn't the "right" thing to do, but neither is sacrificing more than just one stranger for a shot at getting out unscatched. They don't seem the type to pull punches.]

Think we got everything we're gonna see here. Unless you want an egg.

[Kazuma will be sad if you take the egg :(. But that about wraps up his room unless you have another place you want to search.]
tevinteriscoming: (warm. 5)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-12 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll pass on the egg.

[Yes, looks like they're done. He'll fold the paper closed and put it back in the garbage.]

Shall we?
