WEEK 7 - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (7)

sunday TRIAL DAY TWO

(24) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Let's focus on what we've managed to figure out thus far:

The killer's choice of item from the vulnerable too list was the ventilation map and it was disposed of in the incinerator along with two other objects. This conclusion is made due to the fact that the ventilation map is color-coded, and the small burnt piece of paper is colored on one side as well. It helped them be able to navigate themselves around the rooms with relative ease in order to help with their set up of killing Fumi. In addition, no other wounds were found on Fumi's body even after an investigation, meaning it is just the head blow that dealt any damage to her which happened to be the killing blow as well.

Jason and Luke performed a ridiculous phallic object test in the vents to attempt to find out what made the sound in the vents when I and Luke were nearby the cafeteria -- they discovered that objects being dragged around like that did not accurate replicate the noise. Personally, I believe the sound came from a person, not some random object being dragged around.

{ MOVING ON... }

Dorian made a timeline of the suspects' alibis and events that is worth considering. Especially once we figure out more details of the case.

The suspects, along with Marinette, raced through the vents themselves to determine how fast they could have ran to the respective areas of the ship utilized in the murder. From the kitchen to the pod room: Marinette took 6 minutes, Adrien 8, Shelley 9, Roxy 10, Emily 11, and Judar 13.

From kitchen to the garbage room Marinette made it in 20 minutes, Adrien 23, Shelley 24, Roxy 25, Emily 27, and Judar took a whole half an hour.

{ Judar, get in shape man. }

There are still matters we need to figure out.

First, is the order of events so that we can narrow down the time the culprit was active in the duration of the murder and be able to eliminate anymore suspects. After all, we know that that the incinerator was on around 7:15 AM when Shelley and Jessie arrived. It may be good to reiterate that the incinerator takes 10 minutes to turn on.

{ Someone else can ask the AI about clarification because he hates asking the AI things. Sorry not sorry. }

In addition it'll be pivotal to discover what other objects were burned in the garbage room, how the killer set off the string trap in the kitchen, and how quickly events went down once the plan was set into motion.

BECAUSE THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE LAST NIGHT ANYWAY -- STRING TRAP TEST TOP LEVEL

{ As soon as the earlier part of this trial gets started, Arumat will get to doing that experiment-- he doesn't have time to wait for a secondary and he already requested the items he needed from ALICE as well as grabbed whatever he thought could make a good substitute.

He'll grab several chairs and force them in the way of the kitchen door, making it difficult for entry, of course. Then, he'll begin to set up the trap and the position of the victim -- the latter he takes care to do first. Arumat's placing the dummy against the counter of the kitchen, making sure the dummy's form is prone, with its bottom half sitting against the floor. The dummy is positioned not too far away from the vent either, although not exactly too close (being more in the back section of the room).

Following that, he'll slab some glue on a portion of the door, nearby the small glass window, and begin to wrap some string around the monitor replica. He runs a line of string right across the door starting from an angle underneath the small window, where the sticky glue stuff is, so its partially shown through the small glass window.

He's not on the other side, but he's good at calculating location and determining precise positioning even just by glancing at something once. He makes sure to put tape right on the side of the door, so it keeps the long piece of string held, although granted there's nothing to tie it up to the ceiling just yet to make it run straight upwards. So the string that's not covered by tape just falls like a limp noodle to the ground. Next, Arumat looks up at the ventilation in the ceiling, and goes to bring the long line of string up to the ventilation. He'll rip the grate off from the kitchen ceiling by leaping up and grabbing it right off (although somehow not damaging it so he can put it back for investigative purposes).

He'll begin to wrap some of the string around one of the grate's bars and tie it a bit. Temporarily, though he'll place the grate to the side, nearby the door so he can fix that in a bit (note: if there's no grate anymore on the ceiling vent, feel free to disregard this portion).

Before he completely tests the set-up, Arumat has something to check first. The next thing he does is leap onto one of the kitchen tables and dangles the monitor by string to see if the string's heavy-duty enough to keep the monitor suspended from that height. If it is, the next thing he'll do is leap up into the ventilation shaft of the kitchen and hang it from there to see if the monitor doesn't immediately fall from that height and the rope snaps. If the string/twine still holds true, Arumat will try to see if he could swing it into the dummy as a resort of proto-test. }

{ RIGHT. He'll probably come on down then to re-examine the residue before trying something else. Okay does this residue give off some sort of smell in particular if he gets near it and what color is it even (he may be looking to see if its sorta greenish) ? }

{ What is this...

Arumat should've dragged a detective down here.

He tries to see if the shape left behind matches up with the tape. If that doesn't work, he'll actually take pains to move the chairs out of the way to grab some salve from the medical bay to see if it looks similar to the slightly sticky residue if he rubs some of the salve nearby the door. HE DOESN'T THINK SO but he's gotta like. Try everything.

And if that's inconclusive, he'll be grabbing the chrome object to see if he can tell if its small enough to be the object that was placed there (since telling by shape wouldn't work). }

[On the whiteboard, Jason Todd has lovingly scribbled down in the most 6th grade handwriting ever the following information:

KITCHEN TO POD ROOM:
1st place - Marinette* (6 minutes) 2nd place - Adrien** (8 minutes) 3rd place - Shelley (9 minutes) Roxy (10 minutes) Emily (11 minutes) Dead last - Judar (13 minutes)
KITCHEN TO INCINERATOR:
1st place - Marinette* (20 minutes) 2nd place - Adrien** (23 minutes) 3rd place - Shelley (24 minutes) Roxy (25 minutes) Emily (27 minutes) Did he even try - Judar (30 minutes)
* Marinette was in her itsy bitsy teeny weeny polka dot unitard for both routes. Assume some kind of super hero bullshit happened. ** NOT in costume. Might be faster in it.

... There are also some dicks drawn on the side, including one (1) prostrate on the ground and labelled as "Adrien", along with another dick with weirdly buff legs stepping on it. This one is labeled "Marinette". Additionally there is a very sweaty, very limp dick in the corner is labeled as "Judar".

Jason will be placing the cap back on his marker before addressing the room.]

So. The theory where the killer skedaddled to the incinerator from the kitchen sometime between 7:05 am and 7:15 am? Totally busted. Looks like we might have to start thinking of another way the incinerator could have been activated around 7:15 am, with the killer presumably making a ruckus in the kitchen vents.

[Which brings him to...]

If there's a way to program the incinerator to go off at a certain hour, it's possible everything might have been set up way before 7:00 am. We should start to considering looking at the order of events from another angle. Switch some things around. [Also:] We've been assuming Fumi Kanno was killed around 7:05 am, but what if her time of death was closer to 6:00 am? If that's the case, the killer would have had at least an hour to set prop her body up, head to the incinerator, and then go back to make some noise in the vents. With our slowest suspect clocking in at 30 minutes? It's still plenty of time. And that's assuming they headed to the incinerator through the vents. They could have walked if it's faster, gone to the pod room and used the vent there to head to the kitchen.

Hmm. I think the timing theory is likely, though interesting considering the whereabouts of most of our suspects.

Is there a reason Adrien didn't wear his costume?
monsieurchatastrophe: (should I?)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd have been faster, but it would've mucked up the results.

[he doesn't elaborate on that tho thanks for nothing]

No idea. Maybe he was feeling modest and didn't want his girlfriend to see his butt in that leather get up?

[Yeah, no. Why the heck didn't Adrien wear his costume?]

Alice, a question.

[ someone's gotta ask and machias will try his very best not to holler today. ]

I understand the incinerator takes about ten minutes to start up. Is it possible for someone to set it up to have it go off at a specific time?

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-07-24 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
How would it have mucked up the results, exactly?

Okay, first of all, I had to shove this thing [waving his obnoxiously large staff] in front of me the whole time. I bet all the other suspects would be just as slow if they had to do that!

[Would they. Would they really. Probably doesn't help at all that he also just gave up and flopped down to try to take a nap halfway through. That said, he sounds more amused than offended since...those dick pics are hilarious.]

Second, the incinerator couldn't have been going off for that long, right? Otherwise all the paper would have burnt up.

{ Just to confirm... does this mean two pieces of tape can be feasibly missing from the door besides the one piece of tape that was remaining on the door, then? Or is there some way to tell that besides the tape on the door it was more like just one tape may be missing?

If so, when he begins an attempt on the next phase of the set up, he'll have to grab more a bit of more tape, probably...assuming there's some around. }
