WEEK TWO - Trial Day Two
| the pygmalion. . . ONLINE ![]() CAPTAIN'S LOG: WEEK (2) |
sunday TRIAL DAY TWO (38) survivors ![]() At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote. |

Alibis can be found here.
Findings
All evidence and other information found during the course of investigation should be listed here.
Previous findings can be found here.
Alita Tiala's Room
-a pile of messy bandages
-bloody gloves, just like the kind that were missing from the garden, made of that gaudy rubbery material
-one universal keycard, tested on Marinette Dupain-Chen's lock first
The items were all find in the small hallway leading to the ladder. Someone just tossed them inside. How's that for an investigation? Perfect, like me, of course.

Body
A holographic screen above the body displays two color photos of the scene when the body discovery alarms rang at 4:50PM. The photographs are close ups - they portray Raleigh's body, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check their position, it makes it easy to do so.
Host
Greetings, participants. I hope you are all feeling refreshed after last night's rest. As always, I am at your disposal should you need to ask anything. Good luck.
[The holographic image will remain throughout the trial. You're free to ask her whatever you want, though whether she'll answer is a different question entirely.]

summary
'Kay, listen up kiddos, never thought I'd be saying this, but we've got a murder to solve here. And me? Okay, luckily for you guys, I have actually been paying attention this week, so let me just sum up our little game so far. So, sit back, relax, drink your morning coffee. Whatever you're feelin'.
[ At least if nothing else, Jack's voice is more pleasant to listen to when he's in his Public Service Announcement mode, because it's almost like he's used to talking in front of others or having his voice broadcast to countless people. ]
So, first thing's first, we've got our loser of the week, uh— Randolph? Ha, no, just kidding, Raleigh Beckett, cause o' death, getting laid out by one of the serving bots. We've got a time of death between 4PM and 4:45PM, so we're not really working with much time here, especially with a tablet set with an appropriately horror movie-esque alarm at 4:30PM. First thought, probably our killer, right? Not so fast, since the last person to check it out was Raleigh.
Then we've got our murder scene with- Okay, with plenty of blood, distinct lack of guts, so take that part as hilarious or not as you wish. Personally? Four out of ten. I'm sticking to my rating here. We've got our trail of blood through the cafeteria to the second level, leading right to a nice pile of trash. Which, uh, pretty sure some of the teens investigated that and definitely just trash? Good job, guys, digging around in garbage, but A for effort. Aaaanyways, also had some other stuff around his body, including some decorative weeaboo stuff, a kunai, because some dumbass tried to stab himself with it and failed. We've also got a trail of blood away from the body, complete with a pair of sneakers with bloody soles. Used to walk through the blood? You decide, because we've got pleeeenty of evidence to sift through otherwise. But we'll get to that. Because that's all kinda related to suspects.
We've got our robot friend, which you can ask Rhys plenty about, because- Okay, because the guy really loves robots, if you get my drift, but point is, he got a nice mcstabbin with a kitchen knife, but also with some wires cut. Gonna stress what I said yesterday here, because, sure, stabbing a robot is kind of a weird choice, but I think given our time frame and your (general you as in I mean all of you) relative lack of competence with technology, the how isn't quite as important as the end result. Mr. Roboto got disabled and fell on the guy. Buuuut either our killer is super into the red herrings thing or it didn't kill him instantly, considering we've also got a partial message in blood, complete with a bloody fingertip. Dying message or another framing attempt? Seems like the jury's divided on that one.
So! That's pretty much our crime scene, so what about our contestants up for the slaughter today? Well, that's the real kicker of this, because our killer made sure there's something to point to pretty much all of them. So just going in order down the list—
We've got Fiona, resident Pandoran scum, but, hey, not as scummy as most Pandorans, so I'll give her that. Y'know that freaky room we all woke up in? Yeah, found some stuff in there. One of the pods had a shirt covered in oil, pants with blood, and a weird little piece of fabric. The clothes are all just as generic as they come, so good luck matching up the fashion sense here, but seems like they could have been Raleigh's. But those aside, my point here is the little piece of fabric, because it's definitely torn out of Fiona's jacket, and has got a nice little bloodstain of its own. But adding to our timeframe here, Fiona says that it was all in one piece an hour before the murder.
Emily... Okay, I don't know. Maybe she doesn't have anything? Weird. But I'm just going to point out again that she didn't think we were actually on a space station, so. Just an observation. [ Jack is never going to let that go so just ignore him ]
Tsukuyo, who is, I dunno, a ninja or something? I would make fun of her for being a weeaboo, but surprsingly, it seems legit. So. Anime aside, the kunai is hers and is a hair ornament, which is why it's super dull and can't even stab morons that decide to test whether something is sharp or not by stabbing themselves with it.
One of Elizabeth's brooches was found smashed in the office, and it was smashed by the door, seems like. It was just the right size to put at the corner of the door where it slides. And I realize I haven't made a comment about her yet, so just to be fair, the technological incompetence thing? Surprisingly endearing. Like, definitely not "oh my god I want to punch you in the face"-worthy like most of the time you're playing tech support. Could still be a murderer, though, don't worry.
Todd, one of our two resident druggies, but at least pre-face melting, seems to be the owner of those bloody sneakers. Claims they were stolen, but also doesn't really have a good recollection of when they would have gone missing, soooo. Just another observation.
Oh, and Rhys is an idiot and got put on the suspect for sassing the AI, so. He doesn't count.
Which is kind of a lot here, but, hey, I am happy to give a sweet summary in case any of you were braindead yesterday or just in general. [ he just likes the sound of his own voice ] So our last little piece here, that's a lot of evidence, and we've got one for everyone, and also one for everyone saying "there's no way someone could get this." So our last point of consideration is our buddy Al announcing Raleigh as a vulnerable player earlier this week. And what does that mean? Our killer probably got one of the tools from the list of cool stuff. Considering all of this, seems pretty safe to say that they picked the universal room access card, because unless these guys all decided to team up and push a robot onto Randolph? Someone had to go steal everyone's else's stuff.

[Jessie appreciates the summary, but as he goes down his list, there's something that comes to mind. She's looking around the room before looking back at his weird mask-mug.]
There's something strange about this, don't you think?

Alita Tiala and Colors Two Room Findings
Prepare for trouble, and by that I mean more evidence!
And I'll make it double, to help this whole crime make sense!
[This time, instead of acrobats, she just perches on Arbok and looks really cool.]
To protect the falsely accused from devastation!
To unite all people aboard this space station!
To announce the evils the murderer's done,
My reach extends for the moon, stars, and sun!
[She twirls off Arbok, now standing proudly in front of her snake.]
Jessie!
[And then two separate voice clips play, like someone copy/pasted words from different sentences. It's the AI doing Jessie's work for her, of course.]
And Jason!
[Super smooth, forcing him into the motto.]
And this time, with Arbok!
[Chawwwbawkawk!, the snake cries out.]
Team Rocket, thinking like a criminal at the speed of light!
The true criminal ought to surrender, this isn't even a fight!
[Go on, ask her questions about her findings. Jason is probably around, too.]

The killer also clearly chose the suspects, so a message that would point to two people on the list is in their favor.

thoughts on timing and taken items
We know Raleigh was killed between 4 and 4:45 in the afternoon, but even without the killing, our killer had a very busy Friday afternoon.
We've four out of five suspects who've had items go missing or be tampered with. Elizabeth lost a brooch, Todd lost a pair of shoes, and Tsukuyo her kunai. In the case of all three of them, the item likely went missing at some point on Friday. Todd wore his shoes Thursday, and Tsukuyo believes she would have taken stock of her items Thursday evening.
More interesting is Fiona, who was wearing her jacket until 3 PM on Friday. But according to Fiona's alibi, she was also in her room until about 4 PM. I think it rather unlikely the killer stole into her quarters while she was there. If all of that is accurate, the killer was in Fiona's quarters at some point between 4 and 4:45. It wouldn't shock me, however, if the killer entered all of the rooms which were tampered with around 4 PM or shortly before, perhaps with the exception of Elizabeth, as the office where the brooch was found was likely set up in advance. While Tsukuyo was out and about most of the day, both Elizabeth and Todd returned to their rooms in the middle of the day, meaning the killer must have stolen into their rooms either in the morning, or in the afternoon, after 2 PM for Todd and after 3 PM for Elizabeth.
And then Emily. We've found nothing of her items. It may or may not be relevant, but Emily was in her room between 4 and 5 PM, at precisely the time the killer must have been active in the hallways.
[And with that, he's going to mark up a map on his tablet. Yeah, he figured out font colors now. Someone needs to tell him Papyrus isn't as classy as he thinks it is.]
It looks to me as though the killer may have been using Alita's room as a base. From there, the office and both Elizabeth and Tsukuyo's rooms would have been convenient. Todd and Fiona's, slightly less so, and Emily's, somewhat off course.
no subject
It seems our killer thought this well-out in advance. Do you think it's possible that the killer could be one of those "framed" -- intending to leave the one suspect who wasn't as an outlier in an attempt to make Emily appear suspicious?

strip search 2: the electric boogaloo
[According to the AI, anyway.]
Now, going with this assumption, we don't know where the killer would have been injured. That means we need to be thorough. We'll hold a curtain up for privacy, but the faster everyone cooperates? The faster we can get this out of the way.

interrogating the stoner kid
We have a couple of questions for you.
{ He'll raise his voice, just so to get the male's attention, because he wants him to pay attention. Carta and Machias are tagging along in here too, let us just say. }
First, you said you were in your room from 1 to 2 PM, I'm assuming that's what you meant by saying you had lunch in there, is that right?
At 3 you said you got drunk, and then you don't even remember when you woke up afterwards? You should clarify when you came to.
I see you had a second pair of shoes in your room. You wouldn't have happened to have worn them at any point on the day of the murder, would you?
{ Because yeah Todd was seen running around barefoot, but he doesn't know if the kid just simply took off the shoes and pretended to go barefoot, when he had a second pair. }

I questioned him yesterday, and he mentioned he'd stepped out without his shoes.

trash thoughts.
[this is something she's thought about partly because of her own useless trash search.]
Could it be that the trash itself wasn't the important part, but the bag? It could be utilized to carry something into the cafeteria such as, I don't know, a second pair of shoes.

Did anyone think to check inside it yet? My hair isn't that long, [ Not as long as Grell's, but c'mon Allen, it's still long. ] but I've found stray strands clinging underneath my shoes quite often.

Fingerprinting
We need to check the kunai for Raleigh's fingerprints! The suspect, any suspect, was wearing gloves, so we need to check for anything he might have touched before he died! The item was found close to his hand, and we can't expect to find prints on the sleeve or the boots.
Who's with me?

Fingerprinting results.
Tsukuyo's prints were obviously on it since it's her item. Marinette also, since she touched it during investigation.
But the most damning - Raleigh's prints are on it. Specifically matching his index finger and thumb on the end of the ornament. Given he could barely move under that robot before dying, I think it makes sense to suggest he touched it as he was shoved to the ground. And right after that, the robot fell on top of him.
