WEEK TWO - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (2)

sunday TRIAL DAY TWO

(38) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

That. Is actually a good point.

[ Which actually returns him to the problem of timelines, and Jack ends up running a hand through his hair as a gesture of frustration. ]

Then how did he friggin' touch it, if that's the case? What, did they just leave it lying around, and the guy just decided to pick it up?

[personal profile] brooches 2016-06-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Right! There's distractions upon distractions riddling this case. The first discovery of the tablet with the recording... it would only be a matter of time before the killer crossed paths with someone else.

Think about it... if you saw an item on the ground - [ She stops mid-sentence, readjusting her line of thought. ] Could the blood have been purposefully set up as well to garner enough attention to venture in and thus, gain the attention of an unsuspecting victim.
parodeity: (LORD 🎧 what a day)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, not an unsuspecting random one? The killer HAD to go for Raleigh or Maria in order to get the key card which they for sure had because we found that, right? So they gunned for him in specific here.

[ Jack pauses, thinking over Elizabeth's theory here, and he ends up crossing his arms, though he nods. ]

I mean. I guess? Yeah, I can kinda get that. If the blood trail is how they lured the guy up there, maybe the kunai was sitting there looking like it was the weapon that caused it or something? Who knows.

[ Jack sighs out a heavy sound of frustration. ]

No- No, I mean, that kinda makes sense. See the kunai on the floor, grab it, take it up with you, bam, pushed over the edge. But doesn't exactly help us, if that's the case. If she actually just had the friggin' thing in her hair and he grabbed it on the way down, that would be a hell of a lot easier.
tevinteriscoming: (concerned. 2)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We're missing something.

Is it possible she didn't intend to leave items from everyone? I can't see how it would work, but. Imagine she was forced to leave the kunai behind, and for some reason, couldn't retrieve it. Is it at all possible she gathered the items to frame the others after killing Raleigh?

Perhaps she intended to frame one of them, but after leaving the kunai, decided to frame the others?

[personal profile] brooches 2016-06-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
So given the timeline... was my brooch the original plant since it directly correlates to the original distraction..?

[ Sorry, she's gonna wonder that out loud. ]
tevinteriscoming: (curious. 1)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
But the brooch seems such a sloppy way to frame you.

...Is it at all possible that the brooch was planted and broken at the scene by one of the ones to break open the door?
brooches: (pic#10326139)

[personal profile] brooches 2016-06-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't be for certain, I wasn't there with the group who found the tablet... [ She sighs a bit, pinching the bridge of her nose. ] I just wonder given the timeframe how any other combination would be workable... if we're choosing this theory to chase.

tevinteriscoming: (serious. 5)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Let's assume, for the sake of argument, the theory that Raleigh grabbed Tsukuyo's kunai, and she could not recover it, is correct. And furthermore, Raleigh began to write her name, and for whatever reason, she couldn't erase the letters.

I'd imagine the shoes were the ones she intended in advance to plant. As if she could have returned to the scene to plant the shoes, there's no reason she wouldn't have been able to recover the kunai.

In that case, her action was to go to your and Fiona's room, steal and brooch and cut a sleeve off her jacket, leave the sleeve with bloody clothes in the pod room, and then, at about 4:30, somehow arranging to destroy your brooch at the office. Could it have been shoved under the door, or planted where someone would step?

[Sighing]

It all sounds rather far fetched.

I've no idea whatsoever. Perhaps it would be too risky to be seen entering the crime scene?

It wouldn't be any more risky than being seen stealing items from rooms using the universal access key?

I- Well, yeah, that seems like a pretty clear assumption to me. Kind of would go across the board here. Realize you left something at the scene, but luckily you had the card in the first place, so just go jack a bunch of other peoples' stuff. Hide your own crime in plain sight.

[ He shrugs ]

Problem is, that doesn't narrow things down much if that's the case. With the key, everyone here is pretty much theoretically capable of pulling that off.
tevinteriscoming: (concerned. 2)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Only two of the items were left at the crime scene. The other items, I hardly see why they would have been unable to recover them.

[ He waves his hand slightly ]

Figuratively speaking here. Even the other stuff, it was all found in places where the killer went. Granted, not directly with the body, but still all mixed in with their stuff where we would find it.

I don't think that scenario works for Tsukuyo. Remember, she was with us finding the distraction - and like...that shit was elaborate and not whimsy and unintended? I don't see how she has the timeframe to work all that out if we assume it was after Raleigh was killed. The frame jobs only make sense if it was pre-killing just in terms of the timeframe, I think.
isodope: (â–  talk)

[personal profile] isodope 2016-06-19 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the alarm would have been intended to go off right when the murder happened. Otherwise we would have heard a loud crash like a robot falling onto someone.

Though speaking of which - the tablet was signed out by Raleigh. What if he saw it went missing and went to look for it?

It's...possible? But I feel like that's leaving a lot up to chance, you know? Like if you want to get him somewhere, it's easier to assume the killer just learned his schedule rather than anything else, isn't it? Or asked him to meet up.

And it would have been a lot more likely for someone to wander into the cafeteria and go "wow there's a murder goin' down" if it weren't for the alarm being all distractin' like.
tevinteriscoming: (thoughtful. 2)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My thought was the tablet was arranged in advance, as was most of the crime. What wasn't planned was leaving baubles at the scene. A kunai, a brooch, a sleeve -- these are hardly persuasive clues, but if one of these baubles was accidentally left behind, the others might be needed to make the one left appear innocuous.

Do you think there's any way the brooch could have been planted as you were breaking down the office door?
parodeity: (LORD 🎧 what a day)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think so at all, no. Tsukuyo didn't arrive to the scene first - though she wasn't last - so we were already trying the door and that was def what was wedging it shut. Basically, though, the whole accidentally leaving a kunai behind thing doesn't make sense when we assume the brooch was already in the room - which is why you're askin' about it, I assume.

I'm reasonably certain Lizzie doesn't have the tech know how to pull off the distraction, so I'm just gonna say for the record that she and Tsukuyo are at the bottom of my likelihood list here.

There's a big enough gap between the bottom of the doors and the tracks they're on. You could shove a brooch in there easily enough. It'd take ten seconds max.
