WEEK TWO - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (2)

sunday TRIAL DAY TWO

(38) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

I don't think that scenario works for Tsukuyo. Remember, she was with us finding the distraction - and like...that shit was elaborate and not whimsy and unintended? I don't see how she has the timeframe to work all that out if we assume it was after Raleigh was killed. The frame jobs only make sense if it was pre-killing just in terms of the timeframe, I think.

I think the alarm would have been intended to go off right when the murder happened. Otherwise we would have heard a loud crash like a robot falling onto someone.

Though speaking of which - the tablet was signed out by Raleigh. What if he saw it went missing and went to look for it?

It's...possible? But I feel like that's leaving a lot up to chance, you know? Like if you want to get him somewhere, it's easier to assume the killer just learned his schedule rather than anything else, isn't it? Or asked him to meet up.

[personal profile] muties 2016-06-19 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And it would have been a lot more likely for someone to wander into the cafeteria and go "wow there's a murder goin' down" if it weren't for the alarm being all distractin' like.
tevinteriscoming: (thoughtful. 2)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My thought was the tablet was arranged in advance, as was most of the crime. What wasn't planned was leaving baubles at the scene. A kunai, a brooch, a sleeve -- these are hardly persuasive clues, but if one of these baubles was accidentally left behind, the others might be needed to make the one left appear innocuous.

Do you think there's any way the brooch could have been planted as you were breaking down the office door?
parodeity: (LORD 🎧 what a day)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think so at all, no. Tsukuyo didn't arrive to the scene first - though she wasn't last - so we were already trying the door and that was def what was wedging it shut. Basically, though, the whole accidentally leaving a kunai behind thing doesn't make sense when we assume the brooch was already in the room - which is why you're askin' about it, I assume.

I'm reasonably certain Lizzie doesn't have the tech know how to pull off the distraction, so I'm just gonna say for the record that she and Tsukuyo are at the bottom of my likelihood list here.

[ Jack liked this better when there were just fingerprints pointing to someone!!! god!!! He sighs, and there's a little impatience creeping into his voice, but it's mostly because he's frustrated. ]

Yeah, but clock's a-tickin', kiddo... If they're at the bottom, then who's at the top? Thought we were onto something with the fingerprints here, but yeah, there's flaws, which is crap. Should just be easy.

[ UNFORTUNATELY HIS TWO FAVORITE PEOPLE ON THE LIST. ]

Rhys is clearly fuckin' out, and unless Machias and Arumat manage to prove Todd is a secret genius or something, I think he's very clearly not it.

[ no offense todd.

i mean

some offense, todd

but you seem super stoned and dave is not sure you have the brains for this??? ]

Between Emily and Fiona, Fiona has the bigger timeframe, but, idk, chances are we're going to figure something out here that flips everything we know on its head. Still, we can't account for her for any of the investigation to my knowledge, yeah? Or before it with an alibi. And Em was with me right until four pm from 2pm, which was the last time Raleigh was seen.

[ his tone is very carefully neutral, although he crosses his arms and seems. pretty reluctant here. ]

[ Jack ends up looking towards Fiona as Dave explains, but his expression is pretty neutral too. Not completely, since his brow is furrowed together like this explanation is slightly confusing to him, but that's not quite it. He just really hadn't considered that she might have actually done this, and for a moment, that surprises him. ]

Well, yeah, she does, and she is a Pandoran con artist, but—

[ Jack's nose wrinkles up, since this feels so, so wrong, and he looks back to Dave. ]

I dunno. Saying a lot of things I never thought I would today, but if she's the one that did it? I sure as hell would be surprised. And impressed.

[ But conning is about misleading people, and that's what he's thinking on now. ]
parodeity: (LORD 🎧 what a day)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same here.

[ BECAUSE. AGAIN. ONE OF HIS TWO FAVORITES ON THE LIST and dave is biased as fuck here. ]

I might take back the Todd being not smart enough thing, though.

[ LET'S SEE. can he just vote for todd anyway? ]

Really I don't see either Em or Fiona doing the thing, just timewise they're more capable of doing it than Tsukuyo, who I...also am having trouble seeing doing the thing. This is so dumb.

I mean, I see your point, kiddo. And, hell, looking at all these suspects? Not exactly the dream team I'd pick for murdering someone via a robot or the shitshow after. Or before. [ He waves a hand ] God, possibly both, with all the framing shit we've got going on here.

P much. I'm tryin' to look at it as logically as I can while liking like. Everyone but Todd.

[ HE'S NEVER TALKED TO TODD. so he likes all the girls and rhys, basically, and emily and fiona are at the top of that shortlist of girls. ]

Since it would fuckin' suck to kill someone innocent. It already sucks to kill someone guilty, even though that would not be a thing we'd have to do if people could chill their murderous impulses for like, two seconds.
refactor: (I'm a physicst too! (almost))

[ And just overhearing the Todd conversation... ]

...See, on one hand, I'm inclined to vote for that guy because he's clearly smoked, shot, etc. himself stupid and totally has a suspicious cut, but. Him? God, him doing it is the least likely if only because I'd actually believe he'd try and open an elevator with a sword. So. All this makes it kind of harder to believe, or he's one hell of an actor.

Yes, it is. The theory of accidentally leaving a kunai all falls apart if the brooch must have been planted well beforehand. I can't see how or why the kunai would be damning evidence if the killer had already thought to collect jewelry to plant in advance.

Now, I understand Elizabeth, but why Tsukuyo?
parodeity: (UH 🎧 pass)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't the distraction thing more useful if it's to like. Distract away from where the killer is doing shit? What's the point of setting it up just to go and find it. Also, she wasn't at all messed up in appearance when she came to help us break down the door. She would have had to kill Raleigh in the thirty minutes prior to that, set everything else up, and clean up, you know? The people we couldn't account for during the four pm block on are way less pressed for time.
tevinteriscoming: (serious. 5)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-06-19 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's logical, and I can't say I disagree.

For argument's sake, however, isn't it possible that the tablet wasn't a distraction so much as an alibi? She was there when the supposed distraction occurred, which limits the time she'd have to commit the murder.
parodeity: (LORD 🎧 what a day)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if it's an alibi it works better, though again that still leaves her...half an hour to kill the dude and clean up, right? The time of death is four pm to four fourty five. Assuming she set the tablet up beforehand, a lot of the other stuff still had to be done post murder. Because, like. Gloves used in the murder, bloody clothes and shit, etc. So that would have all had to be done after Raleigh bit it, not before.

It's a tight timeline.

I can't believe I'm suggesting this, but. [This is so undignified.] Might we try to reenact it?
parodeity: (WHOA 🎧 hold up)

[personal profile] parodeity 2016-06-19 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. I might not be the best bet for the person runnin' around, though. Also, I now might take back my thing about Todd being too dumb to do it or at least I want to know why he and Fiona aren't alibing one another out if they were both apparently in the parlor until slash after the body was found. Is someone lying or did we just completely forget to mention this fact? Because being together during the entire time of death time frame would sort of matter?

And see how long it takes to get between all those places? That's not a bad idea, actually. We should have a few different people try it, though, since the suspects aren't all equally athletic, either.

There's a big enough gap between the bottom of the doors and the tracks they're on. You could shove a brooch in there easily enough. It'd take ten seconds max.
