WEEK TWO - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (2)

sunday TRIAL DAY TWO

(38) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

summary

[personal profile] refactor 2016-06-19 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Who is here to provide your summary of events so far? Why, it's none other than the most handsome, most helpful, totally not insane Jack! Which also means it's, uh. Colorful. To say the least. ]

'Kay, listen up kiddos, never thought I'd be saying this, but we've got a murder to solve here. And me? Okay, luckily for you guys, I have actually been paying attention this week, so let me just sum up our little game so far. So, sit back, relax, drink your morning coffee. Whatever you're feelin'.

[ At least if nothing else, Jack's voice is more pleasant to listen to when he's in his Public Service Announcement mode, because it's almost like he's used to talking in front of others or having his voice broadcast to countless people. ]

So, first thing's first, we've got our loser of the week, uh— Randolph? Ha, no, just kidding, Raleigh Beckett, cause o' death, getting laid out by one of the serving bots. We've got a time of death between 4PM and 4:45PM, so we're not really working with much time here, especially with a tablet set with an appropriately horror movie-esque alarm at 4:30PM. First thought, probably our killer, right? Not so fast, since the last person to check it out was Raleigh.

Then we've got our murder scene with- Okay, with plenty of blood, distinct lack of guts, so take that part as hilarious or not as you wish. Personally? Four out of ten. I'm sticking to my rating here. We've got our trail of blood through the cafeteria to the second level, leading right to a nice pile of trash. Which, uh, pretty sure some of the teens investigated that and definitely just trash? Good job, guys, digging around in garbage, but A for effort. Aaaanyways, also had some other stuff around his body, including some decorative weeaboo stuff, a kunai, because some dumbass tried to stab himself with it and failed. We've also got a trail of blood away from the body, complete with a pair of sneakers with bloody soles. Used to walk through the blood? You decide, because we've got pleeeenty of evidence to sift through otherwise. But we'll get to that. Because that's all kinda related to suspects.

We've got our robot friend, which you can ask Rhys plenty about, because- Okay, because the guy really loves robots, if you get my drift, but point is, he got a nice mcstabbin with a kitchen knife, but also with some wires cut. Gonna stress what I said yesterday here, because, sure, stabbing a robot is kind of a weird choice, but I think given our time frame and your (general you as in I mean all of you) relative lack of competence with technology, the how isn't quite as important as the end result. Mr. Roboto got disabled and fell on the guy. Buuuut either our killer is super into the red herrings thing or it didn't kill him instantly, considering we've also got a partial message in blood, complete with a bloody fingertip. Dying message or another framing attempt? Seems like the jury's divided on that one.

So! That's pretty much our crime scene, so what about our contestants up for the slaughter today? Well, that's the real kicker of this, because our killer made sure there's something to point to pretty much all of them. So just going in order down the list—

We've got Fiona, resident Pandoran scum, but, hey, not as scummy as most Pandorans, so I'll give her that. Y'know that freaky room we all woke up in? Yeah, found some stuff in there. One of the pods had a shirt covered in oil, pants with blood, and a weird little piece of fabric. The clothes are all just as generic as they come, so good luck matching up the fashion sense here, but seems like they could have been Raleigh's. But those aside, my point here is the little piece of fabric, because it's definitely torn out of Fiona's jacket, and has got a nice little bloodstain of its own. But adding to our timeframe here, Fiona says that it was all in one piece an hour before the murder.

Emily... Okay, I don't know. Maybe she doesn't have anything? Weird. But I'm just going to point out again that she didn't think we were actually on a space station, so. Just an observation. [ Jack is never going to let that go so just ignore him ]

Tsukuyo, who is, I dunno, a ninja or something? I would make fun of her for being a weeaboo, but surprsingly, it seems legit. So. Anime aside, the kunai is hers and is a hair ornament, which is why it's super dull and can't even stab morons that decide to test whether something is sharp or not by stabbing themselves with it.

One of Elizabeth's brooches was found smashed in the office, and it was smashed by the door, seems like. It was just the right size to put at the corner of the door where it slides. And I realize I haven't made a comment about her yet, so just to be fair, the technological incompetence thing? Surprisingly endearing. Like, definitely not "oh my god I want to punch you in the face"-worthy like most of the time you're playing tech support. Could still be a murderer, though, don't worry.

Todd, one of our two resident druggies, but at least pre-face melting, seems to be the owner of those bloody sneakers. Claims they were stolen, but also doesn't really have a good recollection of when they would have gone missing, soooo. Just another observation.

Oh, and Rhys is an idiot and got put on the suspect for sassing the AI, so. He doesn't count.

Which is kind of a lot here, but, hey, I am happy to give a sweet summary in case any of you were braindead yesterday or just in general. [ he just likes the sound of his own voice ] So our last little piece here, that's a lot of evidence, and we've got one for everyone, and also one for everyone saying "there's no way someone could get this." So our last point of consideration is our buddy Al announcing Raleigh as a vulnerable player earlier this week. And what does that mean? Our killer probably got one of the tools from the list of cool stuff. Considering all of this, seems pretty safe to say that they picked the universal room access card, because unless these guys all decided to team up and push a robot onto Randolph? Someone had to go steal everyone's else's stuff.

You. Jack.

[Jessie appreciates the summary, but as he goes down his list, there's something that comes to mind. She's looking around the room before looking back at his weird mask-mug.]

There's something strange about this, don't you think?
refactor: (so I'm a pastor)

[personal profile] refactor 2016-06-19 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He shrugs ]

Uhhh, yeah, there's a lot strange about this, cupcake. But, I'm guessin' what I think is strange and what you do are probably different, so. Go ahead, what's on your mind?

[personal profile] toprotecttheworld 2016-06-19 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm pretty sure what you think is normal [handsome] and what I think is normal [handsome] are different, too, but that's not the point I'm trying to make.

Aren't all of those people you just named the same height?

[She's spoken to four of them. They're all her height, too.]

Does height have something to do with the crime?
refactor: (sounds aboot right)

[personal profile] refactor 2016-06-19 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...I mean, not exactly, but pretty close, yeah.

[ He'll at least let the personal definitions of "normal" go, because that is an interesting detail. ]

Could, but just thinking about it, there's not exactly something popping out to me that's really tied to height. I mean- [ He pauses, then shakes his head ] Gait of the footsteps maybe, but considering they'd all be the same, doesn't exactly help us. I mean, hell, them all being the same doesn't exactly help us either unless we're talking a difference of an inch being crucial.

[personal profile] toprotecttheworld 2016-06-19 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Try taking the universal key card into account, then. Fiona, Elizabeth, Todd, and Tsukuyo all had items stolen from them, right? What if the reason they were chosen is because they fit some sort of...measurement we haven't thought of yet? Is there something else that ties them together other than that? Because if not, maybe they were chosen deliberately.

Thank you.....?

[ SHE GUESSES? Why would you ever punch a lady in the face?! For now, she definitely clues in on the time frame that he mentions about Fiona - especially about the jacket. ]

Could this mean the scene where my brooch was found served as a distraction? There's such a small window and I wish I kept track of the items that were given to me here but... while we were scrambling around, could someone have planted the "evidence"?

[ She's probably wrong on this - but she figures it's a talking point. ]

Why else would they need a distraction?
refactor: (THROW A FUCKING EGG!)

[personal profile] refactor 2016-06-19 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome.

[ He says that completely straight-faced, like he really had given her a compliment. But. Jack is equal opportunity for punchings... ]

Oh, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the case. I mean, why else would you tape a tablet under a desk with a screamer alarm? Gotta get everyone away while you do your thing, and what better than a scream, considering the day?
bloodteller: (as we are dancing in the blue)

[personal profile] bloodteller 2016-06-19 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Mr. Jack!

[ despite a late night pillow fight, she sure does seem to be a morning person. ]

Maybe we should get everyone who had something taken from them to say when they last had it. If the murder happened at 4pm, and Miss Fiona's coat was in tact only until after 3pm, that's not a whole lot of time.

By the way, do you think we can still vote for Rhys?
refactor: (I'm a physicst too! (almost))

[personal profile] refactor 2016-06-19 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He shrugs ]

Wouldn't hurt, but you've also gotta be careful if you do that. After all, just assuming it's not Emily, 'cause we didn't find anything of hers? That means one of the other four would be lying. Whoever actually did it isn't going to tell the truth about when their little piece disappeared.

Ah-ah-ah, I mean probably, but don't even think about it, kiddo. Rhys is— [ He makes a dismissive noise ] I mean, come on, considering when he got added? Totally didn't do it. Why waste the vote?

[ wow look at jack half-assedly defending rhys... what a winner ]
bloodteller: (love is drowning in a deep well)

[personal profile] bloodteller 2016-06-19 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ there's a pause, but then she nods in agreement. he's right. ] Miss Fiona could be lying, too. Anyone who said an odd time could be singled out. It'd be suspicious.

Since you said not to, I won't vote for Mr. Rhys, but... [ ...she just like teasing people she doesn't think are a total waste of time. ] It's kind of like picking on your brother, isn't it?
refactor: (kick the ass end of this)

[personal profile] refactor 2016-06-19 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Jack smiles once she gets it, and there's another nod from him. ]

You got it. I'm not saying it won't help at all, but you just have to take everything they'd say with a grain of salt. You've got the fact that our murderer is definitely going to lie, but I mean, also the fact that not everyone seems to have kept very good track of this stuff anyways. I mean, hell, would you keep track of every belonging because it could be used to murder someone later? -Okay, well, maybe now you will, but point is, probably not for this. In fact, it's a little weirder that you'd remember the time, probably.

[ He crosses his arms, and with the other subject, Jack ends up laughing. ]

...Yeah, something like that. Dum-dum just can't keep his mouth shut, so he talks himself into worse situations all the time. It's a thing. Witnessed waaaay too many instances of it.
bloodteller: (a dangerous idea almost makes sense)

[personal profile] bloodteller 2016-06-19 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ is that a jab at fiona? she's not entirely sure. still, her response is monotone. ]

Actually, I do keep track of my things.

[ what the fuck

anyway. the chipper tone filters back in as she talks. ]
You're right, though. Words are just words... it's their actions that say it all for them.

There's always someone who does. It's just that he makes it easy to make a joke of it, I think. It's... Kind of fun. [ picking on him, that is. oops, sorry, rhys. ]
