WEEK SIX - TRIAL DAY TWO

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (6)

saturday TRIAL DAY TWO

(29) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Deadly nightshade + Poison Ivy + Observations & Conclusions

{ Welp guess who decided to step up to the plate to write this. It's him. }

EVIDENTIAL REPORT

Poison Ivy - A few leaves were found torn from the plant in the garden and it was used by the killer to wipe against the door entry pad to her room in order to coerce her and Light to go to the medbay. It was also disposed of by incineration. Dangerous to one's health when burned, and only lethal when the amount burned is great. When it isn't burned, it doesn't have a scent that can be detected. When it is burned the scent is strong and hard to miss, causing irregularity of the heart. Causes rashes when touched by bare skin.

Note: Verification that poison ivy was the plant responsible for the above mentioned usage was done by civilian Adrien Agreste.

Dave Strider is the one who recognized how the plant appears by sight, as he is familiar with the flora itself.

We all also observed that the killer was very much in a hurry to carry out the deed given how hurriedly they ripped off some of the leaves from the poison ivy.

Deadly nightshade [ Since Arumat actually had to bring it in, you get a nice actual visage of the plant. ] - Another plant from Earth. Can be used as medicinal in small amounts, and anything greater than that would be dangerous considering how extremely toxic it is via ingestion in such numbers.

In addition, someone attempted to cover up that they took one whole plant of the nightshade by moving dirt over a gap between the plants that were still remaining. That is all.

Summary

So--- what we know.

First of all, the killer's initial plan had to involve targeting Light somehow. Because the killer was able to get a turret as part of their plan - and they put it in the salve cabinet of the medical bay. They then stole deadly nightshade and poison ivy from the garden, and, using a syringe from the medical bay, put poison ivy on Clover's keypad so that she would develop a rash on her hand. They then disposed of the syringe in the incinerator and burned it - there's still melted plastic behind - but the fumes are dangerous, as we know from Roxy and Adrien [SHOOTS AT GLARE AT HIM] getting sick.

Once the turret was in the salve cabinet, the killer activated it with an app on their datapad - which disappeared after use - from inside the medbay. This is because they had to have been in the medbay to activate it, we confirmed that yesterday. Then, all they had to do was wait for for Light to take Clover to the medbay, open the cabinet, and....

[....]

We still don't know what the nightshade [SHE'S NOT CALLING IT NAUGHTY MAN'S CHERRIES] was used for, and how exactly Hancock's death factored into this. What we do know was that the poison ivy was dug up in a hurry. And cotton gloves are now missing from the art storage, presumably to have done this.

And, er, either Light or Hancock was the one providing us with items. One of them had a third party role called the "Weirding".

...It was Hancock.

[ Elizabeth says softly. If Marinette heard her, that's good, but she repeats it louder. ]

Hancock has been helping us since the very beginning.

[ADRIEN DID NOTHING WRONG??? he's FINE????]

I just wanted to make sure it was poison ivy that was incinerated after we found something else!

The belladonna is an interesting detail, isn't it? If the poison ivy was dug up in a hurry and the belladonna hasn't been used, perhaps the original plan was to poison Clover more severely? It seems risky to assume Light would have gone to the medical bay on a Friday over a rash.

If so, why wasn't the nightshade used? Did the killer miss their opportunity, or were they experiencing second thoughts about the collateral damage from their plan?

Or maybe it's the other way around. Maybe they initially intended to poison Light, leaving him the only victim of their plot, but couldn't get to him, as Clover was with him all week.

Monsieur Hancock?

[...]

How do you know this? Did he tell you?

Yes.

[ She seems hesitant. Absolutely so. She cares less about her well-being and only about Hancock's memory. ]

He came to me a few weeks ago, hoping that I can reach the items he chose before anyone else. I have - I have proof.

JACK'S ROOM

[personal profile] bloodbiter 2016-07-17 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Bull and I checked Handsome Jack's room together. Three things were immediately apparent: broken shards that were once part of a glass littered the floor, as well as stains caused by blood and alcohol. This seems to match the testimony he gave.

The largest bloodstain was near his desk, and smaller pools of it led into the bathroom. There we found a knife, presumably the one he was stabbed with. The blood in this room was largely concentrated near his toilet, so I imagine he sat down after he was injured. There were two towels, both stained with blood, though the blood on one of them was diluted. I imagine this is because the towel had water on it as well.

In his desk, there were papers with strange diagrams and what seemed to be mathematical equations. I would imagine this had to do with the program he mentioned he was working on for the datapads. Apart from the blood and alcohol stains and the glass, the rest of his quarters were quite neat. We have brought back the knife, the broken glass, and the bloodied towels.

[And true to her word, all these items are now in evidence to be looked over by anyone curious.]

That may be why the poison ivy was grabbed in such a rush-- it could have wound up being a last-minute backup plan when they realized the nightshade wouldn't prove to work out too well as they'd like.

{ Just a thought to add onto here, as he considers the other possibilities the man proposes by his inquiries. }
missmaladroite: (Now you're lying next to meee)

[personal profile] missmaladroite 2016-07-17 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Or maybe they intended to poison Clover more severely but didn't have access. Their plan involved the turret, so I don't think they were limiting it to just one person....

[Hmmm]

But if the nightshade hasn't been used, then it must be around somewhere. Or, perhaps it was used for something else...?

[Marinette doesn't know that much about naughty man's cherries...]
missmaladroite: (How did you know)

tevinteriscoming: (preen. 5)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-07-17 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Obviously the poison ivy was a last minute addition to the plan. The more pertinent question is why.

Will you let me go now, Alice?
tevinteriscoming: (complain. 1)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-07-17 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is hard to fathom the killer felt any sort of remorse for a deadly poisoning, but still elected to use the turret.

Do you know if it's possible to deactivate the turret? If not, the killer must have known more casualties were inevitable.

It's interesting that poison was used at all, wasn't it? After all, poison is a girl's best friend, right after gold and diamonds and Arbok.

[Supportive 'chawbark!' from the peanut gallery. U go, Arbok. Of course, pointing it might be a girl is meant to throw some (night)shade at Fumi.]

We'd probably know if it was used. The symptoms aren't subtle - can check the bodies to see if there's anything unusual [ aside from all the bullets] but thinking it's not in play yet.

He keeps a napkin. I have one from last week when he prepared his goodbyes. He... Oh God, he wanted me to keep it safe in case anything happened to him. I don't think he understood I couldn't carry on for him...

[ Girl, pulling out a napkin sounds dumb as hell, but - ]

By marking tally on items, he chooses one a week to deliver to us. His room will surely have it or -

[ She sighs. ]

Maybe it is still on him.

It's also important to consider that this means it was likely someone who knows about the medical properties of plants, and which can be used to cause harm. Is that common knowledge in most places?
refactor: (what is that? I want several.)

[personal profile] refactor 2016-07-17 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaaah speaking of those third party items, might be about time to give a closer look to what we got this week. Found another dick full of Luminol. Well. Same one, actually.

[ the batdick returns ]

But there was some other shit in the box, so good chance there was probably more.
