WEEK 1 - TRIAL DAY TWO
the pygmalion. . . ONLINE ![]() CAPTAIN'S LOG: WEEK (1) |
saturday TRIAL DAY TWO (40) survivors ![]() At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote. |

Body
A holographic screen above the body displays two color photos of the scene when the body discovery alarms rang at 9:10 AM. The photographs are close ups - they portray Calisto's body, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check her position, it makes it easy to do so.

it takes some nerves for her to remove the sheet, but before she goes any further, she bows her head in respect. once she rises, she'll look at her nails on each hand. ]

Host
Greetings, participants. I hope you are all feeling refreshed after last night's rest. As always, I am at your disposal should you need to ask anything. Good luck.
[The holographic image will remain throughout the trial. You're free to ask her whatever you want, though whether she'll answer is a different question entirely.]

1/??? AND YOU GUESSED IT, IT'S TIME
Since some of you twerps still foolishly cling to the thought that I’m the murderer, there’s one more thing I’d like to discuss today. I've been meaning to get this off my chest for a while, say listen closely. ♥
[She pauses, she takes a deep breath with her eyes closed. Jessie looks up with a sharp gaze.]
2/?????? I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS LITTLE RHYME
3/???? DID YOU PREPARE FOR TROUBLE YET?
4/????? A FEW MORE COMMENTS AND I'M ALL SET
5/6 I'M RUNNING OUT OF THINGS TO SAY
6/6 THIS IS THE END, DOES IT GET YOUR OKAY?

There's a few things I think are being overlooked in this course of events.
[holy shit, Grell sounding serious and not melodramatic? it's an occasion.]
While it seems self evident that the murder took place in self defense, given that it was with Miss Yew's own weapon, and that there was a struggle, can one explain two injuries like that? Not exactly. One of these wounds was a complete accident. The second was deliberate - finishing the job, if you would. If she was already severely injured, she could have run off, claimed the culprit as a would be murderer and hidden her own intentions. Already having stabbed her once in the stomach - a supposition on my part, but the more likely of the two to be accidental in a struggle - the second strike hit Miss Yew as the killer lunged forward, anticipating her turning to call for help or to escape in a momentary panic, explaining the chest wound as they moved to stop her heart. This is only a potential version of events.
Investigations have taken place to look for rips in fabric or blood on clothing, but yet not once did I hear someone propose that the injury the killer sustained was on already exposed skin. The face, arms, hands - a scratch would not bleed much, could be rinsed in a sink and healed with the gel without a single trace being left on clothing. Though perhaps the face would be most important, given that even a mild wound bleeds...enough to be concerning.
Along with that, I think the timing of the death is also important. She was found not completely cold, yes? That points towards her death happening sooner rather than later. If it happened around midnight, then she would be closer to room temperature.
[don't ask why she knows how quickly corpses cool. or do.]
...As well as the simple fact that unless there's a way to record the entrances and exits of their rooms, we have nothing but faith to go on for every alibi. That's all I have to put forth that hasn't already been discussed to death yesterday.
no subject
[ But… still. Machias doesn’t disagree with Grell, but he’s shaking his head. ]
You do raise a few good points. However... I still can't shake the feeling that something feels a little out of place here.

The scrape we found would some indicate that something occurred within the victim's room, but the rest of the room appeared fairly neat. This either means there was little struggle there or that the killer returned to tidy the room up after the murder. I'm wondering if the victim was incapacitated within her room somehow, then taken to the daycare and killed there. I should like to hear everyone's thoughts on this.
no subject
If it's true, that takes away the idea that the murder was done in self-defense, unless the victim was planning to kill someone in her own bedroom. [which. seems like a stupid idea.]

I'm not going to rehash all things we already know, but we do still have some other things to think about. We're going in circles and we really haven't done anything to rule anyone out yet. And we've got a lot of "what ifs
and maybe some red herrings here.
First up! [she's holding up one finger. there's at least a little spirit in all this, despite being tired.] Calypso's key was hidden in the kitchen, yeah? We know it's got a knife in it and it looks like it could be it. But it was clean—are we sure all the sinks and showers have been checked for traces of blood? Towels? Any other fabric hidden around? It's a long shot, but whether it's the key or not, a bloody weapon doesn't just clean itself, and they'd have to be pretty thorough in cleaning up after themselves.
Second! [two fingers up, naturally.] Have we kept track of who was poking around the medical bay throughout the week? Did anyone here talk to any of the suspects while in there? I've been in there a bunch, but never at the same time as any of them. [this is probably best for Fumi and Frankenstein, but anyone who was hanging out in there through the week could be really helpful right about now.]
...Though one of our suspects already took a bunch of things for himself. [luke is getting such a pointed stare, excuse you. don't mess with the mad science brigade's inventory, bro. but more importantly.] I didn't see anything else out of place, so that stuff probably went missing before me, Frankenstein and Fumi were in there a bunch. If our killer used the congealing serum for themselves, whether to actually try to help themselves or to cover it up, they'd have to know it was there, where it was, and what it was meant to do. So they would have been in here looking pre-tty closely at what was in here. It's always possible to take things to deflect the blame, too. "I already had medical goop, so why would I take it from the bay instead of going to my room!" ...Something like that. Or maybe that could be played pretty straight.
Annnnnnnd Third! [harold, shut up already.] Have we confirmed anyone's alibis aside from what Dave confirmed? Any signs at all of people entering or leaving rooms? Any sightings of any of them during the week talking Calico? And nobody was up and about to hear things being knocked over... intentional or not. Hm... hm.
Even with the things we're starting to lean towards, we've still got a lot of question marks. We need to figure out all the hows before the whos, and we're definitely missing something pretty key that ties everything together here.

All right, I didn't prep a fancy slogan like Jessie did but can I just point out that I said from the beginning that you kinda need to know the victim before you could kill her? With the new evidence Adelina and Minako found about how she might've struggled in her room after letting somebody she knew in, it's pretty safe to say I didn't have anything to do with this.
And since some people--[Looking at you Frankenstein and Light]--decided my notes are relevant I just wanna point out that the motive wouldn't make me kill anybody so...[A shrug. Any questions?]
no subject
[ ok to the important stuff ]
It does make more sense for her to let in someone she knew, or at least trusted wasn't gonna get stabby on her. Unless she super naive or somethin, which since she was like a lawyer or whatevs sounds unlikely.

jason's dagger
I took this from Jason's room to test it. If you just compare it to the stabs, it looks like it could have done it, but when you [ uh ] use it, the wound is jagged due to the blade.
So this wasn't used to stab her.

It's time to bully Alita
Let's be real, Arumat had his suspicions the entire time -- he just wanted to wait to get more evidence to prove it. But first.
He makes sure to start off with his voice loud -- but not any more than it has to be. Only to catch Alita (and others') attention. }
That scratch on Callisto's door matches up to the mark made by the engagement ring you're wearing. Want to try explaining yourself, Alita?

Blood's only run down her sides, pooled under her and nothing on her hands. Figured if she was really in a knife fight, you'd have blood everywhere: running down her front or on her hands while she's trying to stop the bleeding. If you're bleeding out, in the middle of a fight, you don't go easy. You'd think there'd be streaks, signs of panic. That shit's messy. Free advice, don't get into knife fights. Always way worse than good old fashioned swords, least you can see those coming. Anyway, point is - she was already out and down when she got stabbed.
My guess is killer got into her room, knocked her out. Then dragged her down the hall and made it look like a fight. Might be the reason for the bruises on her back too.
