WEEK 1 - TRIAL DAY TWO

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (1)

saturday TRIAL DAY TWO

(40) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

[She'll hand it over with no hesitation. She doesn't know medical stuff and she really doesn't want to carry around some tool used to assist in murder.]

Pretty much the only theory that fits, yeah. I sure do wonder which suspect that could be.

Things are getting interesting now that the theories are starting to pull together.

[she says it idly as he looks over the needle.] No traces of liquid, and the tip is bent... Yep, yep... I could see why it would've been easy to miss this on the first go around.
chiseler: (there's something in your way)

[....Harold already thinks he's a dumbass anyway, so.]

Why's the tip bent? I thought needles were supposed to be able to puncture skin pretty easily.

It could be a few things; too much pressure, an unsteady hand, hitting it from the wrong angle and trying to inject too quickly... Things like that.

chiseler: (gonna seize the day)

It just seems weird that somebody with nursing skills and an intent to strike would mess up that badly to actually damage the needle. Wouldn't she know how much pressure to apply and what angle to take?

There's a pretty big difference between doing a controlled medical procedure and trying to knock someone unconscious before they can kick your ass, don't you think? The needle wouldn't take that much to be damaged in that situation, from the looks of it.
chiseler: (and you're feeling so left behind)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-06-13 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[He shakes his head.] It sounds way too simple. Maybe you're right, but I'm also thinking that kind of stuff is instinct after a while, especially if you're doing it to get it over with quickly. There was really nothing left in the needle?

I don't think you see it the same way I do. Instinct comes with doing things in a position to save a life. If she was trying to take it, while under the pressure of not having Calypso fight back...

You don't think she may panic a bit? You don't think that maybe Calypso moved in a way she wasn't ready for and had to strike, or maybe Calypso's movements could have forced her hand right into it? There are a lot of possibilities, kiddo. Not everything has to be so convoluted. Nothing needed to be in the syringe, either. A shot of air in the veins can mess someone up pretty bad.
chiseler: (it was really only you)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-06-13 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the same age as you! [That's not the point. Granted, he's also thinking about what he just told Elizabeth. The most frantic people can land direct strikes....but maybe they don't always mean it because they're caught by surprise.]

So possible scenario is...they were in Calypso's room talking and doing whatever girls do, she was on her way out, Nurse Golddigger decided to try and stab her in the neck, the crow-key turned into a switchblade but she was knocked out before Calypso could strike anybody. Nurse dragged a body down the hall to the daycare without anybody noticing and stabbed her...? Do you really think we're not missing something else here?

Who knows? For all we know, they were arguing before this started. But if nobody was out in the hallway at that hour, nobody wouldn't see doing it, right?

[harold shrugs.] The specific order of events seems a little fuzzy, if you ask me, she's still the most likely suspect from what we've been presented.

[and, with a teasing eyebrow quirk:] Unless you want to focus to fall back on you again, maybe?
chiseler: (what's worth forgiving?)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-06-13 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Excuse u.] Yeah let's not do that. Besides, I don't know anything about applying make-up do I?

[...wait.] But doesn't Jessie's profile list costumes and make-up in her skillset too?

We have a nurse who'd have the medical knowledge to stab somebody with a bubble of air, figure out how to wrangle her body down to the daycare and stab her from there and also flip over the merry-go-round after dressing her up really nice with make-up. Or we have Jessie who could have stabbed her with a syringe of undetectable poison from her giant snake, used the giant snake to carry her to the daycare and flip over the merry-go-round...

...or maybe Alita thought that Calliope was dead and she wasn't, so Jessie finished the job to cash in on the incentive?

That's what is bothering me as well, mister. [ MANNERS... ] Maybe she was frantic?
chiseler: (life's a gas and it's running out)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-06-13 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
[He pauses for just a bit and actually grins.] You...can just call me Luke. [But that's neither here nor there.] She might've been frantic but even the most frantic people can aim direct strikes when it counts. That doesn't add up to the damage of the needle.
