WEEK 1 - TRIAL DAY TWO

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (1)

saturday TRIAL DAY TWO

(40) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Exactly. What's stopping the killer from taking a little bit of her blood and scattering it over the ball pit? It'd certainly explain why we only saw drops of it compared to the amount we saw by her body.

And yes, you're right. A single swab from the finger, I think, couldn't nearly be enough to cover up any defensive wounds had there been a serious struggle.

And why there was no blood between the ballpit and the merry go round, too.

There must be something we're missing or some connection we aren't making, though... Something that might have told us who would have been in her room.

Then let's look at it another way. We've only been here a week. That's not enough time to get to know anyone, let alone build enough trust with them. Not to mention, for some of us, our profiles have offered enough of a first impression.

... I don't know about anyone else here, but I certainly wouldn't allow anyone with breaking and entering listed as part of their skills into my own room.

[ look jessie. he's trying to help. ]

That's true, but couldn't the skills of the others be worrisome when looked at in a certain light? Not to mention their weaponry listed.

Strider and Lalonde knew each other before they ended up on this ship. Knowing that, it's not impossible to think that could be the case with the victim and the culprit.

[Stop calling people by their surnames, you loser.]

There's that. But as far as we know, none of the suspects here seem to have known Miss Yew prior to showing up here.

If we're to assume she's telling the truth, Miss Tiala claims to have only spoken with her once and after our arrival. I'm having a hard time believing that she'd have had the physical strength to incapacitate Miss Yew, then carry her over to the daycare to set up that scene.

Furthermore, if we're to assume that wasn't a deliberate attempt to mislead, you'd think someone with medical knowledge would know better than to just swab some salve with their bare fingertips.

B-But if we suppose Alita is innocent, that Luke isn't lying about the motive not being worth killing anyone, and that Jason's medical knowledge would make it unlikely he'd do that with the salve...

...that would leave Jessie and Kazuma as the main suspects here!

[And that kind of terrifies Shelley. Kazuma wouldn't kill anyone! And Jessie...well, Shelley can't say she thinks Jessie wouldn't, but after everything she has said and done Shelley can't in good faith suspect her.

And then a sudden thought, kind of born of wanting them to be innocent, although she feels terrible for throwing Luke under the bus, she thinks this can help stall a bit for time]

I-I know Calypso may have invited her killer to her bedroom and all that, but that doesn't rule out the possibility Calypso really was trying to kill the other person. If that is true then something like not caring about the motive wouldn't matter here. Luke shouldn't be left out of the suspect list because of that.

[Sorry, Luke, she is just confused and doesn't want any of you three be the culprit, but...yeah, things aren't looking good]

If Alita is innocent.

We don't know for sure-- I think it could be unwise to rule out her entirely.

[Shelley looks so relieved to hear that, you guys.

You two have earned more brownie points on top of what you already had]

Yes, I've been looking at their weights. It doesn't seem like Miss Tiala would be able to carry her -- let alone drag someone heavier and taller than her down a hallway without anyone noticing. And I've asked just to be sure, but if it really was her, then she certainly didn't get any helps from the robots. And... there were some really heavy objects knocked over in the playroom, weren't there?
