WEEK 7 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (7)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(24) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

No it's still a thought, but why would you need a vent map specifically for this murder? Anybody have an answer to that one yet?

I'm curious about the vents actually. Was the only way out of the cafeteria through the vent on the ceiling? So the killer had to go through it?
chiseler: (ain't it beautiful? so unusual)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
The one in the kitchen itself was through the ceiling which makes sense. It's like the one in dry storage. But there was also a hidden one in the kitchen...that was how we found all of Todd's blood. [Which is still crazy.] On the other hand, the ones in the cafeteria itself are a lot easier to reach.

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, that makes more sense. Still, it would probably require some knowledge of the vents to know which is the best one to go through.

... Kind of funny that you're not up there. [ Someone has to say it. ]
chiseler: (tell me)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Just. A very flat look because he knows and he knows that Adam knows.]

...trust me, nobody's more surprised than I am about that. [It's murmured low enough so only Adam can hear it at least.] But we'll talk about that later.

How easy do you think it'd be to carry a monitor through the vents? That'd also require knowing where the vent in the medbay is.

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[ Adam smiles because he seems weirdly happy with Luke today? Not killing has gained some approval. ]

Do you think they were crawling around the whole time? They could have brought the monitor in on their own. Risky, but it would depend on how early they set it up. Surely someone would have noticed the vent in the medbay if it was open.
chiseler: (do you think)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, yeah...it was a Struggle. Adam brings up a good point though.]

You sure about that? Wasn't the medbay pretty wrecked right before all of this happened because of what happened with Jason, Machias and Fiona? If something's trashed, that's a pretty easy thing to miss.
antietam: (pic#10444130)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it's possible. Is it worth checking out? It might tell us if the vent map was used, but I don't know how important it is otherwise.
chiseler: (and now someone is gonna pay)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't be the first time we found something else after a second look. It could also help rule out if the vent map was used, maybe. See if we can send a couple of people to check it out just in case.
antietam: (pic#10442017)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Wanna go see? Maybe there's a signed confession in there. [ Since you aren't getting stungunned yet. ]
chiseler: (you're getting better all the time)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Might be written in blood and everything. [There's a light smirk.] Can't hurt to do another sweep. [Plus it's basically tradition for him by this point to get out of the conference room once or twice to mentally prep himself for being locked in overnight.]
antietam: (pic#10376472)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ Returning!! We'll say with the map. ] Alright, so there is a way to get from the medical bay to the kitchen. The kitchen also has only one way up, the one on the ceiling.

There's also a direct way to get from the kitchen to the arrival room, which is probably what happened. I think it's likely they had the map, then.

monsieurchatastrophe: (should I?)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well... you've been in there, too, so you should know why. The vents are kind of a maze. If anyone wanted to go in or out of the vents at a specific spot, it'd be difficult without them marking out a route beforehand.

[he knows knowing that much about vents doesn't do him any favors but luke was there with him when they played explore-a-vent, so]
tacklefordwhimsy: That's what you get for getting him laid (I recommend you seek protection)

[personal profile] tacklefordwhimsy 2016-07-24 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't the vent in the ??? room found with signs of having been opened? The culprit could have gone from the kitchen to the ??? room to escape, and in the process made those noises.

[It's Shelley's theory, at least]

Supposing the vent map was the item requested, of course.
monsieurchatastrophe: (look at it all so big)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I think too. I don't know how else anyone would know the room with the pods even has a vent that leads to the kitchen.
chiseler: (see them running for their lives)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I mean I know how insane the vents are. When Adelina and I looked in them yesterday it was really hard to tell where each turn was going. I'm more wondering why they'd ask for the map instead of something that could just kill her immediately.
monsieurchatastrophe: (and so I'll read a book)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
... To make sure they could do it without getting caught?

[??????]
chiseler: (sets off an unsuspecting herd)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
You wouldn't need the vent map if you knew there was a vent in the arrival room and the kitchen that's hidden from everybody else. [...which is pretty fucked up because that leaves the only person on that list to know that would be Roxy.] But okay, fine. Let's pretend the vent map was used. You think maybe they went to the medbay, picked up the monitor, went to the viewport, picked up the twine, and then went back to the kitchen and set everything up all while being in the vent and without being heard?
monsieurchatastrophe: (start on the chores and sweep)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[excuse you for dave's sake adrien will 100% stan roxy???? ignoring that he also has to stan himself. dang it.]

Would they need to move everything through the vent? The med bay isn't that far from the cafeteria, and it's not too weird for someone to carry twine around.
chiseler: (man he never had a chance)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Look he doesn't want it to be Roxy either?? He likes Roxy!! But he likes Dave more and Dave losing his mom would suck so.]

Twine could be carried in someone's pocket but I'm more concerned about how somebody would get a monitor from the medbay to the cafeteria without drawing some kind of attention. How would you explain that one?
monsieurchatastrophe: (I'll paint the walls some more)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
It was the middle of the night? They have to have done it regardless of whether they used the vents or not, though. Since it was there.
chiseler: (I curse this caveat)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Think about how many people were up in the middle of the night on Thursday though. That's the thing.
monsieurchatastrophe: ('til the floor's all clean)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. But they got up because they heard something skitter in the vent, right? So someone would definitely have heard if they'd dragged something through the vents.
chiseler: (nice work you did)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
...what do you think the chances are that our culprit and the alien were actually in the vents at the same time so the sounds wouldn't be too different?
monsieurchatastrophe: (and I'm halfway through it)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-24 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
... Would the culprit even be alive if they were hanging around the vents at the same time as the alien?

[rhys's corpse possessed alien, even]
