saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (24) survivors At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

You wouldn't need the vent map if you knew there was a vent in the arrival room and the kitchen that's hidden from everybody else. [...which is pretty fucked up because that leaves the only person on that list to know that would be Roxy.] But okay, fine. Let's pretend the vent map was used. You think maybe they went to the medbay, picked up the monitor, went to the viewport, picked up the twine, and then went back to the kitchen and set everything up all while being in the vent and without being heard?

Would they need to move everything through the vent? The med bay isn't that far from the cafeteria, and it's not too weird for someone to carry twine around.

[Look he doesn't want it to be Roxy either?? He likes Roxy!! But he likes Dave more and Dave losing his mom would suck so.]

Twine could be carried in someone's pocket but I'm more concerned about how somebody would get a monitor from the medbay to the cafeteria without drawing some kind of attention. How would you explain that one?

It was the middle of the night? They have to have done it regardless of whether they used the vents or not, though. Since it was there.

Think about how many people were up in the middle of the night on Thursday though. That's the thing.

That's true. But they got up because they heard something skitter in the vent, right? So someone would definitely have heard if they'd dragged something through the vents.

[chiseler]

...what do you think the chances are that our culprit and the alien were actually in the vents at the same time so the sounds wouldn't be too different?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

... Would the culprit even be alive if they were hanging around the vents at the same time as the alien?

Depends. If they knew their way around the vents they could have made sure to go the other way. You were in the vents with me, those things echo.

... Well, if that's the case, you're looking at someone reckless enough to risk having to fight an alien.

[he says it pretty deadpan because that, uh, kinda leaves him and roxy]

[chiseler]

I'm also staring at someone reckless enough to destroy a vent. [Just a raise of both eyebrows. But he doesn't believe Adrien would be behind this.] Can you do me a favor and promise me you wouldn't fight an alien alone?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

You... heard about that? [woops. also wow look at him conveniently not answering that other question about fighting aliens alone!!]

Heard about a busted up vent. Didn't have confirmation it was a certain cat who did it 'til just now. [So thanks Adrien.] When'd you even find the time to do that?

[Luke please don't be proud of him.]

[HE PLAYED HIMSELF... DARN] Tuesday morning. I thought I could at least block the alien's path a bit, but... They ended up having to get it open on Thursday, from what I got.

[which. what a waste.]

[chiseler]

You and I both had similar ideas but I can't destroy things. Why do you think I taped a bunch of dildos to the vent in the storage room?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

... You thought it'd be funny?

That...would be a really bad coincidence.

Plus, you think someone would have spoken up about seeing an alien in the vents.

[chiseler]

Not if they didn't want to be questioned why they were in the vents. [Look just saying if he were in there he'd keep his mouth shut.] It's just that the timing of everything's only a couple of hours. Everybody who was up was up at like two in the morning right? And Fumi died maybe as early as 6am. Remember the alibi from last week that Fumi and Harold were spending their nights together? That's probably not relevant but it's something worth noting anyway since it means that the one time they were apart they were both killed. If I was planning on setting something up, I'd be doing it when everybody else is distracted by something else. That's all.

[...but wait the monitor was probably broken because of the final fight with the alien so...that doesn't make sense either??? Shit.]

Maybe, but what happened to the alien then? What, did it just see someone else in the vents and decide not to super messily kill someone this week after all? As far as I know, we haven't seen anything so far that an alien would have set up or done.

All right, all right. We'll shelve the alien theory for now. [Or at least he won't mention it out loud without more confirmation but okay point taken, Judar. That does make enough sense unless the killer just knew how to avoid an alien but...eh.]
