Yeah, I can, but... why were you drawing in low gravity in the first place?

I wanted to see if I could glimpse the object of the sketch from another angle.

[it's kind of half true, but also zero gravity is cool.]

Did you have technology such as this in your home?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

In my-- you mean in my house? [he waves her off] No, there's technology like that around, but it's usually reserved for... training people who are going to go into space, as far as I know.

[bloodbiter]

Ah, no, not your house specifically. Perhaps time would have been a more accurate word to use.

[monsieurchatastrophe]

Oh. Yeah, that makes more sense. [woops.] Then... sort of, yeah. I don't think it's that advanced, but I've never exactly been in any before, so I'm not sure.

[bloodbiter]

Even the fact that it exists at all still seems extraordinary to me, honestly. I would love to know how it works... Though if I'm being honest, I doubt I would understand any explanation very well.

[a small laugh]

At any rate... Would you be willing to turn the gravity lower so I can retrieve my pencil?

[she could just ask him to turn the setting back to normal but also she wants to touch the ceiling. she's flying it's cool.]

It's... Hm. Do you know how gravity works at all?

[it's a valid question, what with #middleages over there. Adrien walks over to only slightly lower the gravity, to make sure she doesn't fall like her pencil]

Not particularly. Many things in my world... The longer I am here, the more I realize that while we see that they happen, we don't have an explanation for why or how they happen that way. Does that make sense?

[wheeeee, lowered gravity. up she goes.]

Yeah. That's... I think that's what science is. An explanation for things that happen, and people knew it did, but they didn't know why.

[he looks at her go as he tries to figure out how to explain gravity tho]

The way gravity works is... Everything has a mass? And the more mass something has, the bigger the "pull" they have on other things. That's what gives things their weight. Planets and moons and suns have their own gravity depending on their mass, and that affects everything on or around it. [he pauses] I don't know if I'm explaining this right.

[bloodbiter]

So... Objects pull other objects towards them according to how heavy they are?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

Yeah, pretty much! The smaller something is, the weaker the pull. I think the moon's gravity is... 1/6th of Earth's? I'm not sure. [also, is it really relevant, adrien.] Anyway, since we're in space and there's nothing like that around, the ship probably uses artificial gravity in the first place. I... don't know how that works.

[bloodbiter]

[you lost her at artificial gravity]

I'm sorry, I don't believe I follow. What do you mean that there's nothing like that around?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

Well, there's no planet or anything nearby. We're kind of in... empty space? From what I can see. So there's nothing to give us that gravitational pull. This spaceship couldn't have enough mass on its own, otherwise it would never have taken off in the first place.

[bloodbiter]

I see. So, it doesn't weigh enough to pull other objects near... But it seems very large to me.

[monsieurchatastrophe]

It's not just size. Mass is... bigger than something just being heavy. It'd have to be massive to have the kind of mass that has its own gravitational pull.

[heyyyy sorta science joke]

[bloodbiter]

I see. So it is both size and weight combined?

[monsieurchatastrophe]

Err... sort of? Weight is a force and can vary, and mass is something that helps determine that force? [no, there is no way he can go that deep into physics stuff] I don't think I'm explaining this right.

[bloodbiter]

It's alright if it's too difficult to explain. As I said, I doubt I would fully understand it regardless.

[but look, here she is at the ceiling... time to try and figure out how to get a few feet over where her pencil ended up.]

Sorry. It's just trying to figure out which concept you'd know and which you wouldn't is... way harder than I thought it'd be.

[he's just going to look at her looking at the pencil and suggest, uselessly:]

It's no cause for apology. In fact, I should thank you for explaining as much as you did. It's very fascinating to me.

...I am having trouble understanding your sudden obtuseness.

Swimming movements, I mean. It might work? Otherwise, I don't think you'll be able to get it like this. I might have to turn the gravity back to normal first.
