It is harsher than what they've tempted us with in the past, but there's nothing I'm particularly frightened of.

[shrugs!! "after a given number of near death experiences you learn to chill the fuck out" probably would not be a comforting response]

There are things I dislike, of course, but fear is a rather strong word. Although I was terrified of spiders when I was younger.

[listen he won't question the whole "I fear nothing" because he gets it, but. what. omg.] Spiders? Really? I can't see that at all.

When I was twelve I had to beg one of the sorcerers who worked for my father to find a spell that could deter them from the castle grounds. Prior to that I had to ask my sister to dispose of them whenever I glimpsed one.

That's-- strangely adorable. I never would've guessed that. But didn't deterring the spiders away just bring in more bugs?

Other insects never bothered me much. I'm not certain why.

[a small pause, recalling something, and then another chuckle]

I would use the word ridiculous rather than adorable. I remember the first time I went far from the castle, I was traveling through a forest and had to descend into a cave at one point, and I was very hesitant... This was after I already had to face off against an ogre, and I stood above the opening to the cave thinking, what if I see a spider there?

You never know-- maybe a big enough spider could've scared that ogre, too.

Can you imagine? As large as they are, running away, knocking down trees in their wake to escape a creature smaller than my finger?

Yelling for someone else to come take care of it while they climb on a stump in fear, half the forest taken down already?

Throwing livestock around wildly while it aims to kill it or startle it away...

Running straight into a spider web and screeching at high decibels to get it off, scaring off all the wild life...

Finding refuge in a dragon's cave and cowering there until someone comes to help them.

And then it turns out the dragon is scared of spiders too.

At least they would have the good fortune of being able to fly in that scenario, I suppose.

I know there was once a huge winged crab who could breathe fire lying deep in the ocean... I suppose that spiders would not be any stranger.
