saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (34) survivors At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

But it looks like we need to talk about that! The garden! What exactly happened there? And how was Allen killed?

The autopsy report shows he was hit with an object and caused head trauma...I guess. The shotgun, maybe? That's the first object that comes to mind.

I don't know why the killer would shoot Allen in the shoulder and then use something to bludgeon him instead of shooting more. Lack of experience, perhaps?

I suppose the shotgun would work, but at some point during all of this, something happened to Machias, too. There are three parties involved in all of this somehow, so we have to keep that in mind.

Maybe they didn't know how to use it properly. Shotguns aren't for beginners, especially if there's a heavy recoil.

But isn't that Nerd Twerp's shotgun sort of special or something? Why would someone use a weapon if it's not clear how it works?

Weapon is a weapon at the end of the day, and guns are pretty uncomplicated. Machias was clearly the intended victim if they got the cloaking device, so they probably just thought to use his gun to make things simple.

If Machias was the intended victim, then he'd be dead. They had all the time in the world to see to it instead of just drugging him. Once he was asleep, they could have easily strangled him or...worse.

Do we know why they were in the garden yet?

Machias was the target, that's for sure, bit then Allen's death is the problem here. There must be a reason why he was attacked. He may have witnessed something or tried to stop Machias's murder, he may have attacked the culprit...there are several possibilities.

What's for sure is that Machias can't be the killer. The cloaking device proves it, he can't have obtained that.

[Unless there's some really convenient and convoluted mess. She is also putting herself out of the suspect list, for obvious reasons, and after Lavi's denial she is hesitant to consider him a suspect too. So...either Arumat or Jason?]

There's nothing tying you to the case, either. And as for Jason, he might have stolen medical supplies, but there's nothing suspicious about him, either.

Couple reasons. One, I'm gonna guess doesn't apply here, so I'll just skip that one, but two? The kid might've gotten his head bashed in first, and the shotgun part is a frame for the other idiot that got drugged. Buuut the idea that they just suck? Totally feasible. You never shot a shotgun before and the recoil can give you a black eye if you don't know what you're doing.

Bull and I checked out the body last night. It's more like he was shot with the shotgun and then bludgeoned with the shovel.

We found a shovel that had a dent in it in the garden as well. It's possible that was caused to create his head injury.

Machias has also said that normal bullets would not work in his gun. Perhaps that may have something to do with it.

I think another interesting point to raise would be that it seems he had to time to bandage himself up, considering it appears he tried to wrap those wounds of his.

Yet, if he had time to bandage himself, would that mean he left the garden and returned?

That's...stupid. He had a head wound. Why would he go and get bandages only to come back and die here?

He had to have bandaged himself up somewhere at some point, likely the sick bay, if anywhere.

This could've started elsewhere, if that was the case.

And why does it have to be him? It could have easily been someone else. You seem awfully sure on these points you're sharing, Scarface.

Hardly.

If the killer bandaged up Allen's wounds, then why? In order to hide a blood trail?

It is clear that the killer bandaged at least one of his wounds. After his head was injured, I highly doubt he would be able to bandage the injury himself. It seems as though it would kill him quickly.

Hardly, as in I'm not sure of the validity of the theories I'm putting forth as of yet. But I figured it was worth discussing.

Finding out why the killer bandaged up Allen's wounds could be important... hence why I asked. What would they have to gain from it?

I think so, too. I don't see why they would take the time to do so... Covering up a blood trail is a possibility, but we already found blood in the garden. I suppose it could be that they didn't want us to be able to follow a trail to where his body was located, since a cloaking device wouldn't hide blood leading to the bench.

It depends on how much the blow had stunned me. I doubt I would be capable of thinking clearly at that point, if I could think at all.

Yeah, that part is pretty messed up. I mean- You kill a guy, just leave 'em to die, don't rub salt in the wound like pretending you're some kind of good person for it.

Point is, assuming the killer is the one that did that? To me? Implies that they care about the guy. Because if you don't give a shit, you don't go through the effort. But you care, and looking at that is probably going to be a little harder. Either guilt or they just don't have the stomach for it, but I could see that.
