WEEK 12

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (12)

monday - thursday

(13) survivors

Sunday's trial was only mere hours ago, but you find yourself faced with a new week on The Pygmalion. When you awaken, you will find that the ship is still in disarray; there is no robot prepared breakfast, nor has any of the damage been repaired. The ship is mostly cast in darkness, with the exception of a few rooms, though light may flicker in and out in some rooms. Without Alice, you are all on your own. The ominous pressure of the Queen Mother still looms, though you no longer feel Her presence.

She looks normal. Well, as normal as a corpse looks. There's nothing off about her, so what happened here exactly...?

[quick jason put your detective skills to use]

[Wait. Are the wounds and bruises she had on her when they found her corpse weeks ago gone? She got stabbed a lot for science, after all.]

Someone broke into the pod, as far as I can tell. More glass inside the pod than out, and— the blood could be from whatever brain donor did it injuring themselves. The pod could have hidden the body as soon as it detected a break-in. [And he pauses, still looking at her body.] ... Or the blood could be from Calypso herself. Elizabeth and Arumat looked pretty fine last week despite having head injuries when they died, didn't they?

[Yeah. He's got a theory here. Spare bodies, maybe?]

... Yeah, they all looked intact. Whole. [he puts his hand on the glass as he peers at Pew Pew Cashew once again] But how? I don't think a trip to the corpse spa would've fixed the kind of damage they went through.

[the unnecessary autopsies, for one]

Exactly. Unless Alice had extremely advanced medical science at her disposal, that shouldn't be possible. So. I'm thinking this... [He gestures at the body.] Isn't her original body at all.

[He lets that sink in before continuing.]

Think about it. Sonya's recording mentioned the "cradle". From how she described it, it sounded like it could scan the brain. If you can scan and upload a human being's brain, and you have the means to create realistic enough bodies... Would it be so hard to duplicate us like this? You saw the readings the thermal imager gave us. Something's wrong with our bodies.

[A beat. And he shrugs.]

Then again, maybe I'm thinking too far out of the box. What do you think?

[And while they're talking, is there anything else of note in the room? Or vents. Gotta find those vents.]

[Adrien listens to Jason, but that all sounds... completely fantastical to the cat themed magical girl superhero.]

That's... insane. [but he doesn't have any other explanation for what they're seeing, honestly.] Then again, so is this entire situation. But if these are just copies, what happened to the real corpses? The robots always came to drag them away, so it couldn't have been to just... throw them out, could it?

[he goes towards the vents as he speaks, looking at it]

Whoever came in this room didn't use the vents. [...hmm] If we're thinking of blocking the room off again, should I break this too?

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-08-23 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see any desecrated corpses around here, so disposing of the original bodies somehow seems likely. [Hmm.] Assuming we're not all copies, anyway, regardless of whether we've died or not. The room is labeled as "Electric Sheep". Ever picked up a Philip Dick book?

[Now is not a time to be a nerd, Jason Todd. Or maybe it is? Who knows. Either way, he's squinting at the computer, approaching it while minding his steps.]

... Break it when we're ready to leave. We don't know if you'll need to defend yourself before we're done. [But also—] There's a computer over here. It looks like something's sticking out of it.
monsieurchatastrophe: (🐈 s'acharne à swinguer)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-24 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. [he's pretty casual as he says it, moving closer to check the computer alongside Jason] I know the reference, but American sci-fi novels? Not exactly high up on the list of stuff I was supposed to read for my studies. [...and it's not his nerd genre, but he's not mentioning that part. also, night vision permits him to see what's sticking out of the computer perfectly fine, hurray]

It's... in a keyhole. [squints and leans closer to see properly] It's just plastic, as far as I can tell. Do you think it's some sort of key? [a beat] And should we test to see what it does?
antagonize: (024)

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-08-24 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Give it a try sometime. It's interesting. But this isn't book club. My point is, the goal of this project was said to be saving mankind from extinction. If you can make a carbon copy of a human's mind, and you have the resources to duplicate their bodies... Well. Think about it.

[But enough of that. He's taking a closer look at the terminal. Messing with the key is tempting, but he refrains for now. Instead, he focuses on looking for a screen if the machine has one. And if it does, a way to turn it on — be it through contact with the screen or some kind of input device.]

No. Not yet. If this machine does what I think it does, we're better off leaving the key alone. Do you see any words or symbols on it? On, off — that kind of thing.
monsieurchatastrophe: (🐈 nous les laisserons alors s'aimer)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-25 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
That... kinda makes sense. It doesn't explain why it turned into whatever we've been playing, though.

[looking at the computer and playing with it yields nothing, so he turns to Jason with a frown]

There's nothing on the screen or anything. I don't think it's working. [a beat, and then he jokes] "Have you tried turning it off and on again"? [is this the time.] I think our only option is trying to see if that keycard'll work.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that part is because of our friendly neighborhood meat skewers. That, or maybe Perkins was feeling sadistic in her death throes.

[That said, he's staring at the key somewhat dubiously. He's curious about what it does, but at the same time...]

We could mess with the key. Or we could leave it alone. Machine's on. Just doesn't seem to be responsive. And my current theory is that this hunk of junk... [gesturing at the terminal.] Is the one hosting the Furry Crossing server where the dearly departed are currently trapped. If we test it and it turns out to be an off switch, we could be screwing everyone over.

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[he takes his hand away from the vicinity of it like it was burned and grins sheepishly]

Oookay, fair point. Can't blame the cat for being curious, right? [adrien, stfu] I guess that's it, then? I don't think there's anything else we can do in here except try to lock it up.
antagonize: (116)

belatedly realizing i typed "furry crossing" smh

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-08-25 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hey. If curiosity killed the cat, some would say satisfaction brought it back. But I don't think that would apply if my hunch turns out to be right.

[Shrugs. Honestly, he could be wrong. But he'd rather not be responsible for giving their friends a second death if he turns out to be right.]

You still have to break the vent, right? Though, I'm curious if we can rip one of those plaques off before we lock the place up. Want to try it on Jack's future egg shaped grave?
monsieurchatastrophe: (🐈 plus de coeur et d'abandon)

i didn't even notice tbh

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-25 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. We can do the vent after your curiosity's satisfied. [he doesn't comment on the jack specific joke because it's 2 late to get jason todd to stop joking about people dying three months into this, but Still. stop] How are we going to manage that, though? I'd try just ripping it off myself, but. [raises the stump] I don't know that I'd get far one-handed, superhuman strength or not.

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-08-25 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Jason has died??? That automatically gives him the right to make as many death jokes as he wants???? Except, no. No it does not. He's just a hopeless case.]

Luckily for both of us, I have two hands and a sharp knife. Could try prying it off that way. And if that doesn't work, you can just... I don't know. Punch it? You don't need two hands to punch an egg.

[Just... Just let him rip off a plaque. He will try to cut the plaque off or slide the knife under it to pry it off if he's not stopped.]
