WEEK 10 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (10)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(16) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Ohhhh my god. This suspect list can get fucked.

[ no one dare vote for dave? or adrien? leave her children alone? also luke and emily are cool? wtf? ]

Suspect AMA again, I guess? As helpful as that is, anyway.

This is fucking bullshit, what the fuck.

[ HE LIKES EVERYONE ON THIS LIST? MOM? HIS BEST FRIENDS? can everyone just vote for dave so none of these other people die, please? ]

But ok, yeah, ask me whatever.

[ he crosses his arms but since mom is doing an ama, dave will follow suit. ]

[...here we go again. He's sitting in a chair, Backbiter's propped next to him, his journal's in front of him, and there's a bright pink scrunchie still attached to his wrist. Also wrapped around the scrunchie is a long strand of twine tied so it can't be removed from Luke's wrist. The end of said-twine is currently being held by Adam Parrish. Adam is a rude human being.]

Let's just get this over with, okay?

[She just had to joke about it yesterday. Emily's curled up in her chair, one knee brought up to her chest and she's resting her chin on it. She's so Done with these shitty trials, guys.]

Yeah, yeah. I'm here for whatever questions you've got.

[HE HATES THIS SUSPECT LIST????? SO MUCH??? Adrien doesn't seem too concerned about himself, though the addition of Plagg on the table in front of him might be a surprise for those who haven't suffered the cat's constant presence this week. Plagg is playing furry passing on Adrien's tablet. He is clearly the most concerned about Adrien being up there. plagg you fuck]

I'm willing to answer any question.

[but his question is what the fuck @ this line up]

[If no one expected Jessie to do this for her fallen friends, then they didn't know Jessie at all. The music is back. It's time to do this.]

Prepare for trouble, the likes of which you've never seen!
And make it double if you've killed, I'm not here to be nice, but mean!

[Jessie does some incredibly random standing backflip to land on the table.]

To protect Totty and Lizzy's souls by making the correct accusation!

How did Elizabeth end up outside the ship? We may as well begin the theories on this part of the case, the sooner the better.

[even the most ridiculous possibilities weren't automatically ruled out just yet.]

I don't think that Lady Alice would have simply opened the door to whoever asked, but with that power outage, the lock could have been forced apart...

elizabeth's wound

[personal profile] antietam 2016-08-13 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
We looked at the head wound Elizabeth has, which seems to be the only injury on her. It looks like it was made with something heavy, but we can't identify what sort of object made it. It's too messy.

The head wound did seem to leave the blood trail down her clothes and all of the blood had time to soak in before getting frozen outside. So she wasn't wounded and immediately thrown out. It's also worth noting that the blood went down her clothes like she was upright.

It's on the top of her head, not the back, which would make it a different sort of attack.

totty's phone

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-08-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
According to Adrien's report on the cold storage room, Todomatsu's phone wasn't on him when Jessie checked his body. Can't say I knew the guy well at all — but he seemed like the type to have a nervous breakdown if he didn't take pictures of himself every half hour. Which begs the question... Why wasn't the phone on his body when they found him in the cold storage?

[He pauses briefly, more for dramatic effect than anything. Good job, Jason Todd. He is fine. Everything is fine.]

I have a theory. Cellphones have pretty good cameras, right? And the guy seemed to take pictures of whatever he could. So what if, briefly before he was killed, our dead guy snapped a pic of our culprit? It'd explain why the device's not on him, assuming he didn't leave it elsewhere.

"what are you going to do, stab me?" -- dave strider, before getting stabbed

[personal profile] refactor 2016-08-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Well, since Dave called dibs, Dave and Jack are apparently heading to cold storage so Dave can stab himself. Jack has the medical supplies with him, and maybe he'll be an okay babysitter because he likes Dave. Maybe? ]

Now, granted, nnnnot sure how much we need here, so? You got a guess, kiddo?
chiseler: (and as you step back into line)

the airlock

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-14 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think Alice thinks I'm stupid. [Does this really look like a murderer to you? He's sulking in his chair still but he's thinking carefully.] I asked her about the airlock door a little bit ago. That thing's programmed to stay closed no matter what. I asked her about propping it open and killing the power and then trying to pry the door open and I asked her if the key card would work on that door. The answer's no on both accounts.

But I asked her about overriding the programming of the ship and all she said to me was that it's an answer we can figure out ourselves. [Which is also rude.] So...unless a robot knows how to continue operating in the dark, we should start figuring that out, too.
chiseler: (nice work you did)

blackout and airlock testing lets go team

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-14 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[So. Luke has a Plan. This plan involves getting a robot (poor robot) and bringing Marinette to the fuel reserve room since she was one of the witnesses of the room itself. Adam of course is with him and still holding onto the other end of Luke's leash. Dorian is valued and therefore the best person to be in the airlock and Dave...can fly in space. So this is fine.

So here we are in the fuel reserve room first and he's staring at the orb.]

The real question is how did they break the glass to get to the orb in the first place? Any ideas?
monsieurchatastrophe: (and so I'll read a book)

Weapons test

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-14 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I mentioned it earlier, but we should at least try to compare people's personal weapons with the wound on Elizabeth, shouldn't we? The knife we found, too. And maybe see if we can't recreate it on a dummy.

[it's a long shot but hey it worked with Adelina's sword last week??? also they can do it in the room but Adrien can't exactly... do it by himself....... he is a Suspect]
refactor: (iil I die I’ma fuckin’ ball)

[aliens meme]

[personal profile] refactor 2016-08-14 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
So. Got a theory here, and admittedly? Not really based on anything about the details of these murders. Just math, kiddos, and I want to bring that to your attention. 'Cause, y'know, there's a probability here that I think we need to be takin' into account when we're thinking over who could've done this.

So, just to explain what we've got here. One, we've got sixteen people left. Low number, sucks, but good for this. Because thanks to some of the stuff we've learned this week, we have an estimate for what kind of shit we're dealing with here. That log mentioned we're working with four or five of the Sou-blahblah, but we got rid of two of them. So. Two left, three at the worst. So, generally speaking, you pick a random person, you've either got a 12.5% or a 18.75% chance they're one of 'em, right? But that's also just one person. We've got five here. Now, personally, don't think Alice picks our suspects randomly, but. For the sake of this? Let's say she does. And also fudging the math here slightly because ehhh, helps make my point, but.

You pick five people, and you've got that probability every time with a decreasing sample size? Preeeeetty unlikely that none of them are going to be an alien. So. Just want to put that up for consideration here, because now that we have actual numbers for how many aliens we're dealing with, I think we should consider that it's pretty damn likely that at least one of these people's alibi is a lie, and they're not even gonna know it.
monsieurchatastrophe: (🐈 c'est vrai)

throwing dummies out the airlock

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-14 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Adrien, Dave and Eyepatch Widow are outside the airlock with a dummy in and are planning to tHROW IT OUT. somehow. how do you eject a dummy into space someone else figure this shit out]

So once we send it off, all we need to do is wait in the viewport to see how long it takes.

[it'll. it'll probably take longer than the minute or two it'll take them to go to the viewport so this is Fine]

Cellphone Findings

[personal profile] toprotecttheworld 2016-08-14 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
[She starts by reading the note on the phone. Jessie is more composed than earlier as well; she makes it through the entire thing, even if she cried reading the note the first time.]

"If you're looking at this, congrats, I'm dead. If I'm not dead, then why do you have my phone, seriously that's a super dick move. If you can, please send the phone back to my mom. Tell her I appreciate everything she's done, Dad too.

Tell my brothers not to forget me, even though they probably already did, assholes. Tell Jessie..."

[...well, moving on.]

"Try and keep everyone from playing with my corpse too much. Unless it's super gross! I really hope it's not super gross. Now, stop messing with my phone, you're gonna kill the battery early."

[She presses a button on the phone to make it go dark, letting it rest as she twirls it in her fingers, presenting the dark screen to anyone listening as her way of saying she's already done looking at it.]

It's mostly photographs that were taken at home or on the ship. I'm still going through the clips, but there's no infamous cliche killer shots. If someone else wants to take a look, be my guest, but it's mine now. Arbok will make sure it gets back to me.

[She's taking Todomatsu's last will as another mission she has to carry out. Dammit, Totty.]

But don't you all think that's odd? Why would he stuff his cellphone there when he's never seen without it? He was probably trying to sleep or wait in his room until I was done with my patrol. I doubt he'd have left it there if he were going out for a walk himself. No, that'd be almost impossible for him.
