WEEK 10 - Trial
the pygmalion. . . ONLINE ![]() CAPTAIN'S LOG: WEEK (10) |
saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (16) survivors ![]() At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote. |

Body
A holographic screen above the body displays two color photos of the scene when the body discovery alarms rang at 9:31 AM and 9:50 AM. The photographs are close ups - they portray Elizabeth's and Todomatsu's bodies, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check their position, it makes it easy to do so.

Host
Greetings, participants. As always, I am at your disposal should you need to ask anything. Good luck.
[The holographic image will remain throughout the trial. You're free to ask her whatever you want, though whether she'll answer is a different question entirely.]

elizabeth's wound
The head wound did seem to leave the blood trail down her clothes and all of the blood had time to soak in before getting frozen outside. So she wasn't wounded and immediately thrown out. It's also worth noting that the blood went down her clothes like she was upright.
It's on the top of her head, not the back, which would make it a different sort of attack.

totty's phone
[He pauses briefly, more for dramatic effect than anything. Good job, Jason Todd. He is fine. Everything is fine.]
I have a theory. Cellphones have pretty good cameras, right? And the guy seemed to take pictures of whatever he could. So what if, briefly before he was killed, our dead guy snapped a pic of our culprit? It'd explain why the device's not on him, assuming he didn't leave it elsewhere.

the airlock
But I asked her about overriding the programming of the ship and all she said to me was that it's an answer we can figure out ourselves. [Which is also rude.] So...unless a robot knows how to continue operating in the dark, we should start figuring that out, too.

[aliens meme]
So, just to explain what we've got here. One, we've got sixteen people left. Low number, sucks, but good for this. Because thanks to some of the stuff we've learned this week, we have an estimate for what kind of shit we're dealing with here. That log mentioned we're working with four or five of the Sou-blahblah, but we got rid of two of them. So. Two left, three at the worst. So, generally speaking, you pick a random person, you've either got a 12.5% or a 18.75% chance they're one of 'em, right? But that's also just one person. We've got five here. Now, personally, don't think Alice picks our suspects randomly, but. For the sake of this? Let's say she does. And also fudging the math here slightly because ehhh, helps make my point, but.
You pick five people, and you've got that probability every time with a decreasing sample size? Preeeeetty unlikely that none of them are going to be an alien. So. Just want to put that up for consideration here, because now that we have actual numbers for how many aliens we're dealing with, I think we should consider that it's pretty damn likely that at least one of these people's alibi is a lie, and they're not even gonna know it.

Cellphone Findings
"If you're looking at this, congrats, I'm dead. If I'm not dead, then why do you have my phone, seriously that's a super dick move. If you can, please send the phone back to my mom. Tell her I appreciate everything she's done, Dad too.
Tell my brothers not to forget me, even though they probably already did, assholes. Tell Jessie..."
[...well, moving on.]
"Try and keep everyone from playing with my corpse too much. Unless it's super gross! I really hope it's not super gross. Now, stop messing with my phone, you're gonna kill the battery early."
[She presses a button on the phone to make it go dark, letting it rest as she twirls it in her fingers, presenting the dark screen to anyone listening as her way of saying she's already done looking at it.]
It's mostly photographs that were taken at home or on the ship. I'm still going through the clips, but there's no infamous cliche killer shots. If someone else wants to take a look, be my guest, but it's mine now. Arbok will make sure it gets back to me.
[She's taking Todomatsu's last will as another mission she has to carry out. Dammit, Totty.]
But don't you all think that's odd? Why would he stuff his cellphone there when he's never seen without it? He was probably trying to sleep or wait in his room until I was done with my patrol. I doubt he'd have left it there if he were going out for a walk himself. No, that'd be almost impossible for him.
DAY ONE TRIAL END
It is 7PM, participants. As usual, the trial shall be placed on hold until the morning. Dinner will be held in this room, like last trial. Please do not stab the robots. They will take your order and bring it out to you. They cannot do this if they are damaged. To ensure that there will be no tampering with the evidence, all participants are to remain in this room. Blankets and entertainment shall be provided shortly, and should you find a change of clothes necessary, that can also be arranged.
[ A few moments later, the screens and tablets are on again, this time providing a selection of winter-themed movies, and retro gaming. Anyone who leaves will be accompanied by a robot, and then ushered back into the conference room. You're stuck in a sleepover with the corpse near you again, it seems.
Feel free to thread out any of the evening's interactions here. ]
