WEEK 10 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (10)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(16) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

When we went to fetch Elizabeth, we had to ask Alice to open the door for us. Do you think she might've done the same for our killer? Just because everything's offline doesn't necessarily mean Alice is...right?

We can ask, but I kinda hate the thought she helps killers out even more than, you know, she already does.

[ because that would be unfair? ]

A lot of the rules are bullshit, but she does seem to usually stick to them.
chiseler: (ask a reason and no reply)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-14 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
One of the rules she likes to stick to is that she can't tell us if she helps out a murderer. She won't tell us about things when a conspiracy kill is in action, so of course she wouldn't tell us if she was operating while the power was down.

Maybe we should ask her about that?

Maybe we ought to ask her. If she won't confirm she didn't help, we may as well assume she did.

I agree we should ask her, because tbh the worst that could happen is we learn nothing? Best case scenario, we learn something. Always err on the side of learning something.

I did tell her that I'd come back with more questions and theories but I guess if somebody else wants to back me up it'd be fine? Maybe she's not answering me much because I'm on the suspect list.

[ opens his mouth to offer to go with luke...closes his mouth he's a fucking suspect. who has been sitting down since he got back and looking semi pale i guess i should note hey luke ]

I guess also being on the list would not make me super helpful to this? But hey - we've come across people gettin' around locked doors before.

[ now that he thinks about it. ]

[Goddamnit kid. He is slowly aware that Dave sneaked off to be a blood bank for Jack but he doesn't verbally acknowledge it. Instead, he snaps his fingers for one of the server robots and drops a donut in front of Dave along with a cup of juice. Dumbass kid.]

She's answering some of my questions so maybe I'm just asking the wrong ones. [He tilts his head though.] What're you thinking? What do you mean?

[ IS IT APPLE JUICE THOUGH ]

Vents are an option, aren't they? And those...things. Know how to get around in 'em.

[ ugh fucking vent aliens ]
chiseler: (gonna seize the day)

[Look he saw Roxy dump out a box of AJ from her sylladex thingy, yes it's apple juice. #responsibledad29kwhatever]

...you think we're looking at another alien murder? [The way he asks makes it sound as though he, too, has been considering it already. Go on, Dave. Elaborate.] We know that the aliens can navigate the vents in their host bodies. You think when the power went out maybe they used that as an means of wandering around? We still don't really know when Liz and Todomatsu were killed either.

It makes more fuckin' sense than anyone on this list deciding to up and murder for a sub-par motive.

[ he says, flatly. because. come on???????? his bias is so strong he refuses to buy that this could be anything but mind control or whatever. ]

I think the power goin' out was probably some kinda distraction, yeah. And I think that's the one surefire way we know to get around locked doors, so it's worth lookin' into. We don't know what item whoever the fuck it was picked, right?

[ OH ALSO HE DRINKS THE JUICE ]

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-14 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[I'm glad you edited solely to say that Dave is drinking his juice. Anyway, Luke's leaning back in his seat, picking at his makeshift leash again.]

Just remember there's also two parts to the motive. We almost forgot that last time, too. [But it's true, it seems strange.] This is also assuming somebody picked an item. If it was an alien kill maybe they wouldn't even need it. The other thing is...we know the aliens can slip and slide out of vents. What if they could also just slip out under doors, find a host to inhabit and then kill anybody who wandered downstairs?

[ IT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT EDIT? ]

...Yeah, you're right. Re: the motive. I mean, even if it seems useless and dumb to us, it...might not for everyone? But come on, it's one thing to believe Addie who slew dragons could stab someone. It's another to believe...

[ well. people he REALLY REALLY LIKES? ]
chiseler: (say it again)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-14 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that hard to believe if people get desperate enough. You can't just let that fact slide, especially if it's something not quite as useless and dumb. And if it is aliens they won't remember so we've gotta keep that in mind, too. It's more like who would Elizabeth and Todomatsu trust enough to talk to. That's the thing.
