saturday TRIAL DAY TWO (22) survivors At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

According to what Grell told me, two of those plants are poisonous but nobody's been able to figure out what the kale was used for. So...unless the poison was dripped on it and meant to be ingested I got nothing.

You said kale was for eating. Could the kale be to mask the taste of the flowers?

That's what I'm starting to wonder. But that would mean somebody trusting somebody else to take food from them. [A pause.] Much as I hate to say it, your theory's not a bad one.

It is... But there's also not noticing something tasting like kale. It's a pretty strong flavor. And where's the food coming into this anyway? Is there any evidence of Arumat eating?

[chiseler]

I dunno, check his teeth. I doubt he had time to brush 'em if he was in the process of dying.

Tell me you're not serious. Because--

[it is super gross, he will do it if necessary but he is not sure if he's being fucked with]

Would I be anything less than serious now? [That smile is really not reassuring! But go ye forth, Totty. Luke's running on 24 hours without sleep and he's just a little punch-drunk. It's still plausible.]

It was merely a suggestion. Dummies don't digest. How else can we tell?

A bite would definitely hurt. But, hey. What's the worst that could happen? Worse case scenario, we're gonna have to make someone upchuck right in front of the kids.

What's the worst that could happen with a fireball?

That's not a bad theory, actually. [he's got a thoughtful look on his face] Arumat couldn't cook, and it'd explain the time of death if they expected him to be conked out from poison. Since the "fight" might have been faked, it would also explain how they got their hands on his scythe if he was unconscious or weak from poison.

[chiseler]

It would mean that Arumat would have had to trust someone to make dinner, or someone knew his dietary habits and could predict what he was having for dinner. If we're going with the idea that his food was poisoned, two of us were out of the cafeteria by seven, two of us were out by 7:30 and and one of us was out by eight. It would then depend how long the poison would take to work.

That I don't know. I didn't even know lilies were poisonous to anything but cats.

I didn't either to tell you the truth. [He's not even going to state the obvious because this is not the time for cat puns.] But that's what she told me. For all we know, the lilies weren't poisonous enough and that's why the moonflower was used, too.

What are the signs of poisoning for those? Maybe we can look that up and check Arumat.

This is exactly why you don't take food from strangers. Almost died that way about three times.

Lots of people trying to poison me. Success rate is pretty low so far.

But seriously I know a lot about this shit, if you have questions. Know I'm a suspect, but I can still answer questions. Think I'm the last remaining expert on this stuff.

Yeah, I noticed. [He's been studying the profiles, Bull was absolutely someone he was hoping to ask but you know. Suspicious suspects, etc etc.] Know anything about moonflower? Or do they call it something else where you're from?

Demon's Taint. Or Trumpet. Guess it depends what region you're in. Causes hallucinations, weird behavior. Might make you act violent. Pretty popular for taking at parties.
