WEEK 8 - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (8)

saturday TRIAL DAY TWO

(22) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

If our culprit didn't know it wasn't a killing poison, that could explain where the clay wire and strangulation came in. And if Arumat was poisoned with moonflower and had memory issues he could have forgotten that somebody was in his room that wasn't supposed to be. What do you think?

Sounds plausible. Could explain how the room got torn up - did it himself while under the influence.
chiseler: (another clever word)

Fighting invisible foes, made it way too easy to miss the real foe in the room with him. If they knew he could cast fire magic, too, that'd explain the precaution for the firesuit. But my thing is how did anybody get the firesuit up to our rooms without anybody else noticing?

It's on his card, and the guy wasn't exactly subtle about his powers, and he fired some off in public. Pretty sure anyone could reasonably expect to run into some fireballs if you got in close quarters.

As for the suit . . . it's a good question. Good at sneaking, I guess. The place is big enough to get lost in at this point, you take your time and watch around corners. Wouldn't really know, don't go many places without being noticed. Hard not to get seen when you're two feet taller than everyone else.

[also the giant horns.]
chiseler: (there is no safer place)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah you've kinda got that going for you, don't you? [Not that it immediately rules anything out, but.] A lot of us saw each other that night but there are still gaps in time we were all separate. It's pretty much anybody's game at this point.

[...then again, the fire-suit came from the airlock, and the airlock is by the zero-gravity room. He's not saying that yet though.]

Can account for Dorian for most of the time, and part of that time he was definitely drunk. The whole stress thing has been taking a toll. And saw Adam. Don't think he's got it in him anyway. Seems like it was pretty hands on. Hard to imagine any mage pulling this off, they aren't known for being able to smash heads into walls.
chiseler: (gonna seize the day)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So that leaves you, me and Grell. And not even entirely you because you were with Dorian part of the night. I was with Adam for the early part of the evening, too. [So...this makes zero sense.]

Do these really look like the kind of hands that can bash a guy's head in?

[HONESTLY IT REALLY DOES. Bull shrugs. It's a big shrug.]

Depends on what you're swinging. [said jokingly. maybe it was a tragic mpreg accident and arumat slipped and fell in shock at the sight of it.] Still, kind of stands out there's only one person not on this "buddy system." There's got to be a reason.
chiseler: (and if you can't get what you want)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He just cuts a glance at Backbiter that he's since reclaimed from Adelina from yesterday.] You know what else stands out? That there's only one person not on the "buddy system" who's also known for having enhanced speed, strength and endurance. I know how that kind of fight goes. It's pretty impossible to land a hit when you're going against somebody like that. Arumat wouldn't have stood a chance.

[...that means accusing Grell though and...well...]
erythristic: (blink.)

[personal profile] erythristic 2016-07-31 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[okay, no, she's speaking up in her own defense here.]

Not impossible when both parties involved have advanced abilities. I've sparred with him several times, and if we were both truly trying, I wouldn't have escaped unscathed.

[she can hear you, Luke.]

Ask those he trained with about his style and what they assume he'd be capable of. I will gladly display my own abilities without holding back, if need be.
chiseler: (see them running for their lives)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Look Grell he likes you and sure doesn't want to believe you're a murderer, but...]

Is that a challenge? [Luke no. Sit down.] We don't even know who he would have trained with, you know that? So unless somebody starts talking that means nothing to me.
erythristic: (beyond.)

[personal profile] erythristic 2016-07-31 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
If you'd like it to be a challenge, I can provide, but I'll warn you that I meant I won't hold back.

[Grell no. someone start bets.]
chiseler: (gonna seize the day)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[And here we have Luke in his natural state. His jaw's tight and his eyes are narrowed and he is not getting scapegoated, fuck this. FUCK THIS!!!]

Then neither will I. [He's not at all prepared, but at least he'll get the answers he wants this way.]
breakshot: (impatient)

[personal profile] breakshot 2016-07-31 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Can we not?! Look, I trained with him and I believe Adelina did too.

[ ugh guys please stop fighting?! ]

I don't mind answering any questions about that if need be.
chiseler: (another breaking news blowout)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Machias, this isn't about that anymore. But you can definitely answer some questions for me about his fighting style. Did he train you with the martial arts or his scythe?
breakshot: (sex in a ball pit)

[personal profile] breakshot 2016-07-31 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I-- Just martial arts. Basic drills, the same thing you'd expect from basic military exercises...

[ yes, believe it or not, machias is technically military too. technically. not that he actually enjoyed those drills, damn you not!neithardt. ]

Look, whatever it is you're planning: just be careful, all right? And please don't let it get out of hand this time.
chiseler: (it's a scene about me)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-31 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
...I've never been in the military, so I'll take your word for it. [There's a half-smile.] It'll be fine. We've just gotta look at everything, don't we?

One more question though. Would Arumat's martial arts be enough to defend himself if someone attacked him, do you think?
