WEEK 7 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (7)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(24) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

[Let's just say that he hoists himself into the vent that's closer to the ground in the cafeteria and borrowed the map from Adam to get to the one in the kitchen ceiling. And from there he's going to start dragging the bundle around on its string from the kitchen vent first. Would the sound be able to be heard from the vent outside of the kitchen door?.]

[Well. He waits long enough for Luke to conceivably get to the vent in the kitchen, but...]

If you're rattling, I'm not hearing shit!

[Would Luke even hear him shout? IT'S A MYSTERY.]

[PROBABLY NOT but he's coming back to the main vent that he and Arumat heard the noise in the first place. From inside the vent:]

I'm gonna guess nothing. I'm gonna work my way backwards from here. Stay sharp. [And he sets the bundle down near the opening of the vent right next to the kitchen door and...off he goes. How about now? Does it sound like creepy skittering aliens at all?]

[If Jason had a cellphone right now, the sound of someone dragging a bunch of dicks around would be his new ringtone. What a time to be alive.

Too bad it seems like this test is a bust, though.]

[I'm so glad this happened anyway so...he's just holding the dicks and crawling back out of the vent.]

If it wasn't that then...we're back to wondering what was in the vents and why the printer was used in the first place. [And now he'll probably just go back to the conference room with a bundle of dicks. Great job team.] Any other ideas we should test while we're out here?

Right now? I'm fresh out of experiments. But if you have any ideas we could test out about why it was necessary to tie the monitor up like that, I'm all ears. I'm not sure it would've been possible to suspend it from the vents and drop it on Fumi without anyone in the cafeteria hearing something.

[Because that's the only thing he can come up with right now, and it kind of sucks.]

We'd have to run the string up in the kitchen the same way it was initially set up, but it's hard to imagine what that was. Arumat and I saw it was crossed from the bottom to the top of the window and then went at an angle somewhere so something was definitely suspended. Since it hit her in the back of the head, I'm guessing it more swung at an angle instead of dropped straight down.

So like a pendulum, maybe, before the string snapped and it dropped to the floor.

[Or, at least, that's what he assumes. Hmm.]

If we take a closer look at the kitchen, think we might be able to find some hint or sign of how the string was initially set up? There has to be something. Maybe some twine residue, or leftover stickiness from more tape.

[He hates everything about this trial.]

[...sadly it's the word "stickiness" that makes him think.]

When Adelina and I headed back out to check out the vents I noticed there was some stickiness on the inside of the window along with tape on the door. At first I thought the stickiness was from more tape, but Arumat said the sink was wet like it was recently on. I thought maybe they washed off Fumi's blood but maybe it was glue or something instead. There was a lot of twine but none of it was wrapped around her. It was sort of just dropped on top of her but it was really tight around the monitor. There has to be a lead in some of that.

Two separate strings, right? That's two different uses we have to take into consideration.

[since that's what word of mod says, anyway..............................]

You guys didn't spot anything else that was wet in the area, did you? Or any towels that could have been used to clean up? It's strange that water could have been used to wash something out, but nothing was wet outside of the sink.

Which makes this even harder, unless we think the twine's strong enough to hold a person and be used to climb up into the vents and that's why it was dropped on Fumi. [He's scrubbing at his face in annoyance. ]

Unless Arumat totally missed something in his search of the kitchen, I've got nothing. ...could be that the killer washed their hands from whatever stickiness was on the window and burned the towel in the incinerator with the map. We still don't know what the ashes are right? We also don't really know how long Fumi was dead before we found her. Could've been an hour, could've been five minutes.

The timing is narrow. Again. [Just like with Elizabeth's case.]
