saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (24) survivors At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

What, are you proposing as one possibility that the killer may have struck her with the monitor to the back of her head to cover up another wound of some type? Otherwise, I don't see how she would have been killed before the monitor hit her head.

... It's not unheard of, Arumat.

We know Ms. Kanno was vulnerable, meaning a tool must have been used to aid her killer. We're already assuming the ventilation map might have been in play, but how do we know she wasn't killed or knocked unconscious with something else?

Okay but what on that list would only be enough to knock her out? That's the only reason I could see the monitor coming into play, if whatever they used wasn't enough to outright kill her already. The other option just seems like overkill.

... A stungun, for one.

[ finger tapping. glasses push upwards. hmm. ]

We've already seen what most of the items are capable of, including the sword. Now, I can't claim to know how stunguns work here, but as far as I know that would be enough to incapacitate someone long enough to kill them.

[ he just doesn't know how space stunguns work because he probably only knows of orbal stunguns. or whatever the fantasy semi-modern steampunk jrpg equivalent would be for his world. ]

But why ask for a stungun when you can ask for something more deadly?

There is always that, yes.

You're asking the wrong person about any kind of gun, but you really think so? I mean, Fumi never struck me as somebody who could fight back. But then again if they stunned her long enough that she couldn't use her magic that'd leave her right open to kill her.

[...hm.] Think we can ask Alice how strong the stungun is?

I don't see why not. She provided us a turret last time, didn't she? It's worth a shot.

I don't claim to know how or why they opted to knock her out first, but best to consider all angles. If a stungun's really in play here, we'll need to know if it leaves any markings of note.

[No Franken-dad would kill him if he tried to stun Machias....]

Let's ask her for a dummy and a replica stungun and see what we can do. It won't tell us if it's enough to knock out a person immediately but if the dummy explodes then we know how powerful it is. [Winning smile? Winning smile!]

... If it actually explodes, we'll have a lot more things to be concerned about. Let's ask her for the details first, then we can talk about whether or not to test it on a dummy or worse.

A stungun's purpose is to incapacitate, so I can't see why it'd kill unless our killer's housing quite the creative mind. [ like electrocution. but surely there'd have been burn marks on fumi if so. ] It wouldn't be the first time something turned out different than what we thought it would be. [ LIKE THE SWORD WHAT THE HELL ]

Seeing how we're in space, I'm willing to be the stungun isn't what we think it might be either. Let's see what Alice says and we'll go from there. There's no harm in checking it out to be completely sure.
