WEEK 7 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (7)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(24) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

string theory

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
So I think the string is something we need to figure out. It came from the embroidery kit that Adelina requested, which was in the viewport. I guess no one can confirm a time when the string might have been taken?

What I'm getting is this: The discovery group had a view of Fumi's top half leaned against the counter. There was some string on the door that they could also see? They looked away due to noise from the vents, and when they looked back, they could no longer see her.

When they broke their way in, they found her dead with the twine strewn around on top of her. It was also tied onto the monitor. Tape was found on the door and the window of the door was sticky. So, how did this trap work?

So the string vanished and Fumi fell before they got inside the room? Had they rattled the door?

I think so. They would have had to try the door to know it was jammed and then, probably, would have rattled it even more. It was before they burst it open, though, so do you think just rattling it would have caused something to happen?

If it did, I can't imagine it was with enough force to dislodge a monitor.

No, that's what's strange to me. I can understand maybe forcing someone else to be the actual killer by setting up a trap where they end up killing the person... but none of the people who discovered the body are on the suspect list. [ And truly it's a mystery why Luke is not up there. ]

Not to mention that I doubt embroidery thread has the strength to somehow hold a monitor in place. Particularly so that it will fall should the door be rattled.

Well, it's possible that it was placed on or inside the cabinets? I still don't know how it would have fallen, though.

Hmph, I have a thought.

Its possible whatever crawled through the vents was able to trigger the trap somehow from above, especially while we were distracted, which they could have been banking on as well from the noise they created. They wouldn't need to get down from their spot in the ceiling or the vents and wouldn't be revealed. Not to mention they'd be able to kill her discreetly and easily be able to even return to their room or elsewhere. It wouldn't take that much time and make creating an alibi easy if they were with someone else.

How far away was the vent from her body? Close enough that they could throw the string to be on top of her?
thanatosincarnate: (> Aside)

[personal profile] thanatosincarnate 2016-07-24 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
The vent's in the middle of the ceiling, some respectable distance from Fumi's body which was lying against the kitchen counter. In addition, I don't believe they threw the string on top of her. More like when the trap was triggered, some of it happened to fall around her.

{ If...that makes sense. He hates this stupid ass complicated murder. Screw murderers. }

[ Yes screw them with the dildos they printed out. ]

So how was the trap triggered, then? It's hard to believe it was from y'all budging the door.

{ He will end you }

Hmm...

Before the string was pulled or otherwise, it appeared some part of it may have lead up to the ceiling, which the killer could have conceivably went to take care of as soon as they moved into action and dropped or swung the monitor into the back of her head. In order to hold up the string they probably used tape along with some other... glue-like substance due to the heaviness of the monitor.

We could attempt to recreate a bit of the scenario. Make an inquiry for a dummy from ALICE, grab some tape, find some glue or adhesive of some sort, grab some more string, and set the dummy into a prone position. We can tie some string around a sort of object that weighs about the same amount as the monitor or some sort of replica, make it hang from the ceiling by holding it, see if it works out that way.

The other part of the string can be taped to the door as well, and tied around the monitor as the secondary part...

{ OR SOMETHING... LORD KNOWS HE TRIED. }

That would be an interesting experiment. I think we may need one if we want to understand what happened.

I believe the frayed ends of the string suggest the string was torn at some point—we should see what might cause that, too.

Probably something sharp or because of when they tugged on it and the following force.

{ does this mean he's bullying adam into accompanying him }

Either way, let's see how it works out.
