saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (29) survivors At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

I don't know about immediately. I'm not accusing anyone, but it could be possible to target Fumi to get the turret and then... something went wrong.

And how would she target Fumi from that position? Well? I'm pretty sure lying there and waiting for someone to come along isn't "targeting."

Harold and Fumi were by the medbay anyway, right? They were probably on their way there, considering their interests.

And how many other people like to stop by the Medbay? Frankenstein? Jason Todd stole medical supplies from there. Setting a turret in there means nothing. I doubt Alice would consider that an "attempt" on Fumi. Even I go in there sometimes.

Alright, that's fair. It was just a suggestion to keep options open considering the last trial.

[probings]

This idea seems like a pretty plausible one. Fumi-Fumi and I both usually head into the Medbay pretty early, so putting a turret right where she'd walk into it is pretty smart.

...Well, if you don't end up screwing it up, at least.

I thought a lady of science would be smarter than that. Guess even someone flawless like me is wrong sometimes.

Oh? And which part about this makes you correct? I'm not saying it happened, but you'd be a complete idiot to think a girl and her brother wouldn't team up to take out someone else.

Light was vulnerable this week. So was Fumi. Why wouldn't they make use of that if they could? [it's completely logical.]

I'm not going to rule out Clover as a possibility until we find something that gives me reason to think she's completely out of the running.

Blah, blah, blah. All I hear is you trying to talk more about Clover and less about Fumi, who is an even more likely suspect. But I'm getting bored of listening to your drawling, I'll focus my attention on the suspects who could have actually done it while you sit here being wrong.

Dude. [It's mostly a warning tone because...well he'd thought of that, too, but he likes Clover enough he really, really doesn't want to think about the possibility this is Lavi+Allen 2.0.]

I haven't accused anyone. [ Geez Luke. ] But we can't let this be another Kazuma.

And what, she decided to bring Light in for a stroll where she put in a turret?

Let's not forget that Light was on top of Clover. Clover would have to be the one to enter first.

Considering the two of them, they could have planned it together and were putting it up when something happened.

So you think they planned a murder together and then were--what, too stupid to work the turret? It was obviously placed already.

[antietam]

I'm not commenting on anyone's intelligence. [ YES HE IS. ]

Regardless of who put the turret there, Fumi could have been the intended target. The killer might've been aiming to snipe down one of the vulnerable players this week, and then — lo and behold. They ended up killing the other person on that list, instead.

[It makes sense. But still.]

Though it'd be one hell of a coincidence, if that's the case.

I don't agree with that at all! Clover is wounded herself, right? If Light hadn't been on top of her, what would have happened?

[Light had to have been the intended victim, then.]

Clover and Light are always together. They could've easily been lured in there. I'm an expert in laying traps, I'd know this more than anyone.

Why were they in the medical bay, anyway? Was Clover injured or something? Like you said, they're always together. I can't imagine it would be too hard to get "big brother" to take her to the medical bay if something was wrong.

That's the question right there, isn't it?

[She has to think on this one.]

Clover could have been the lure, it's true. If she was already lying on the ground, would the turret have detected her?

They took it on the chance that she would be the first to enter the medical bay despite the fact that others here visit it fairly often as well? I doubt that would be enough to obtain the item in the first place, quite honestly.

This is exactly what I'm thinking! If we were all out of our minds with nightmares, we'd all have every reason to run in there and stock up on healing supplies.

Except for me, of course, my nightmare was much worse than that.

...I'm sorry to hear that. This obviously isn't the time to discuss such things, but if you did need someone to speak with after the trial has concluded, I will be available.

I may just take you up on that. But we still have much more to figure out, so we need to work double to take care of this trouble!
