WEEK 6 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (6)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(29) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

I thought a lady of science would be smarter than that. Guess even someone flawless like me is wrong sometimes.

Oh? And which part about this makes you correct? I'm not saying it happened, but you'd be a complete idiot to think a girl and her brother wouldn't team up to take out someone else.

Light was vulnerable this week. So was Fumi. Why wouldn't they make use of that if they could? [it's completely logical.]

I'm not going to rule out Clover as a possibility until we find something that gives me reason to think she's completely out of the running.

Blah, blah, blah. All I hear is you trying to talk more about Clover and less about Fumi, who is an even more likely suspect. But I'm getting bored of listening to your drawling, I'll focus my attention on the suspects who could have actually done it while you sit here being wrong.

I think the only one with the "blah blah blah" is the person who decides that someone isn't the culprit five minutes into the trial.

Or did your peabrain already forget what happened last week, when everyone was so sure Kazuma didn't do it. We only chose right out of pure luck. If you want to be that much of a moron again this week and let everyone screw it up, go right ahead. But I think I'll pass on that one.
monsieurchatastrophe: (a few new paintings to my galle)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-16 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Jessie never trusted Kazuma, so I'd trust her instincts over yours.

[he'll feel like shit about this later right now he's just full self-righteous mode]

If you're going to play white knight before we have everything in order, maybe you should have one of the robots bring you a bottle and put you down for a nap. We don't have time for that kind of crap, do we?

[she's not interested in the clover defense squad, she's trying to look at this as fairly as she can—even with fumi on the suspect list.]
monsieurchatastrophe: (paper mache a bit of ballet and chess)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-16 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
She nearly died and her brother is dead, but all of you are too busy thinking of conspiracy theories to think about the fact that even if Light and Clover were planning to murder instead of, I don't know, the logical thing and concentrating on keeping Light safe, they'd have to be beyond idiotic to trap themselves in the med bay with a turret and both of them in the room.

[wow attack cat has some arguments... incredible]

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm here to solve the mystery, not sit here and play the "letting people off because a sad thing happened' card. If I did that always, I'd never get through things like wars. Maybe you need a few more years experience dealing with life and death situations before you open your mouth and blindly defend your friends, yeah?

I'm not saying this is the answer, it's too early for that. But we don't know what happened yet. We don't know who was being targeted, or what granted them the turret. We don't know why the two of them were in the Medbay. We don't know enough of anything yet to rule someone out completely. How about we keep considering every option until we can start ruling things out? Wouldn't that make a lot more sense than arbitrarily deciding who is and isn't a culprit? Even if it wasn't Clover, it doesn't change the fact that the turret placement could well likely be there for that reason, after all.

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The placement could be there for which reason?

[what if instead of fighting we solved the mystery quick and went home, what about that]
probings: (pic#10176572)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
To target Fumi, specifically. There really wasn't any telling who would enter the Medbay first, but she's there early on most days. It's not unreasonable to think someone would set it up there for an easy kill of a vulnerable person.
todorable: (i am disappoint)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess... But there's always a lot of people in the medbay, right? Usually early-risers, too. I'm not saying it wouldn't have worked for murdertime, but would the chance that Fumi got there before you or Frank or whoever else have been a strong enough motive for the culprit to get a special item?
probings: (pic#10176573)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the part we have to figure out. It's possible that it's not, because it's a busy place. But considering we lost more than one life to this thing, it's possible that the collateral damage didn't matter much.

[she shrugs.]

We'll have to actually talk to the suspects and try to narrow things down, but until then, anything is possible here.
todorable: (you are dead to me)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[voice low, serious]

No one's interested in a repeat of last week. Even if certain things are being prioritized for now, nothing's off the table.
probings: (pic#10176573)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[she nods.]

That's the point I've been trying to make all along. At least someone has some sense left in their head around here.
todorable: (death is better)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[that's something he doesn't get often]

...I just don't wanna make the same mistakes-- I just wanna get this over with quick.

What do you know about poisonous plants?
probings: (pic#10176572)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as much as some others. My specialty is in machinery, and most plantlife where I'm from is minimal.

[she's a genius, but she has her limits.] It's safe to say a couple of our suspects are a little more well-informed about it than I am.
todorable: (hey man)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Gonna name any names?

[less accusing and more 'honey, dish']

Seems like poison might've been a thing, so if we know where to start looking...
probings: (pic#10176567)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Any of them could be, really. The ones who spend a lot of time in the medbay could. Franky and Fumi-Fumi are there a lot, but I've seen Clover and Liz in there more than once.

[she doesn't really think it's liz, but liz was one of the people labeling syringes a while back.]

I guess it would depend on the terrain they're from. My world's all covered in snow, so I don't really know much about plantlife like a lot of others might.
todorable: (i am disappoint)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh... All that stuff's on the internet nowadays, so if you're really into poisons and death and stuff you can look it up from the comfort of your phone.

[which. doesn't seem to narrow things down any further. perhaps a change of topic]

...You and Fumi are pretty close, right?
probings: (pic#10176567)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
So it could still be anyone, really.

[a change of topic's probably not a bad idea.]

Mm. We tend to see eye-to-eye about things. Scientifically-minded, I guess.
todorable: (beanie)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
So you can vouch 100 percent for everyplace she's been since 9 last night?
probings: (pic#10176571)

[personal profile] probings 2016-07-16 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
She was in my room the whole time, and unless I nodded off at some point and don't remember, she never left.

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-17 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
So you and her and Frank had breakfast together, too?
monsieurchatastrophe: ('til the floor's all clean)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-07-16 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[thank god totty interrupted because that means adrien can bite his tongue and just seethe instead of continuing to argue WHICH HE WOULD HAVE]
todorable: (do you see the problem here)

[personal profile] todorable 2016-07-16 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[i feel your pain kiddo but fully 100 percent of the people in this room will be best served by getting the hell out of it asap

he shoots him a concerned look because this trial is balls]
