It's really more the principle of the thing.

[and that's what he says before aiming to stab Dorian with his armblade instead of a tentacle because it'll be easier to find the ring if he's dead? i guess? what the fuck]

[Well, he can't barrier himself again, and he can't move quickly enough, so instead, he's going to do the one thing he was told not to do, and will try to hit away the blade with his staff. There's no staff blade, and his arms are weak, so it's not particularly effective, but between the staff and the thick leather of his armor, it's enough. He takes the slash from the armblade, but it isn't so deep as to be life-threatening.

He clutches the staff for support, breathing heavily for several seconds as though he's about to collapse, but instead he replies.]

All right, all right. You can have it. I believe that - [A pained gasp as he clutches his side where he's beginning to bleed even though the leather.]

Darn it all, that's right. I left it back in the conference room. Shall we go get it? [If he dies he's going to die sassing someone, damn it.]

[Dorian. her body moves almost without her thinking, never mind what injuries she's already gotten from this thing, until she stands between him and this monster and whatever appendages might come too close will have to dodge her strikes with her scythe.]

Mind if I cut in?

[there will be no time for a reply, given how she takes Dorian around the middle and pushes him behind her. move, make sure it can't hit you, live. something like that. as long as there's enough time for him to get to safety, it's enough, and she doesn't mind shedding a little more blood for it.]

You know, if he just gave it back, I wouldn't have to kill both of you. [a beat] Of course, I still would, mind. Mother doesn't need you alive.

[he'd been aiming to stab straight at Dorian's throat, but with Grell in the way, he will instead aim to... stab straight at Grell's throat. What. It's a good plan. He's not changing it.]

[Thank you, Grell. He doesn't really have the ability to flee - he's still standing, after casting too many spells at once, only by putting his weight on the staff. But he trusts Grell's ability to fight, and will get himself out of the way, to go collapse in the doorway - ready, despite the exhaustion, to jump back in when his mana has recovered enough for one more cast.]

[her dodge isn't enough to spare her fully - it will still gash her in the side of the neck, but not anything unbearable. with luck she doesn't have, it won't scar.]

Still tied to your Mother's apronstrings? Do any of you actually think for yourselves?

[by now, she's on the defensive, not striking out at him but keeping herself and Dorian safe, racking her brains to think of how they could get him downstairs.]

[as usual, his mommy issues are showing, as he snarls when she mentions the queen]

She believed in us and left this ship to us, to take and conquer in Her honor. But you wouldn't know anything about what one would do out of love and devotion, would you?

[it's a vague guess, and he's less preoccupied with cutting her down verbally than he is about cutting her physically. Thanks to his extra tentacle appendages, he has more limbs than places she can cover, and anything he can slice at he tries-- arms, legs, chest, face-- anything to make her hurt and get her out of the way. An outright stab won't work while she's defensive, but he has hopes for death by a thousand paper cuts. If paper cuts are being sliced with a knife now.]
