WEEK 8 - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (8)

saturday TRIAL DAY TWO

(22) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

[ He knows it was harsh but he's also really nervous now. He genuinely thinks he could die here and it's terrifying. Luke has enough friends that people wouldn't vote for him without being sure, but Adam doesn't have that certainty.

... Still. He feels bad. He'll reach over to put a hand on his arm. ]

[Nope. Nobody's allowed to think that and if Adam gets scapegoated he's taking everyone on this ship down with him. So...that helps and he sort of slumps over. That's enough. Give him a few minutes to kickstart his brain and figure this out.]

[ He starts to run his hand through Luke's hair like he did for him last night. It helped him. Maybe it'll help here. ]
chiseler: (it was really only you)

[Weirdly, yes, it helps. It's enough for him to focus at least.]

...it's like Bull said. Simple solutions tend to be the right ones. Are we really overthinking all of this?

[ He'll keep petting then even as they talk theories. ]

Probably. We always do that. It was just Shelley's fingernails in the vent. [ A sigh. ] The killer didn't want us to find the stuff in the archives. But Arumat seemed fine when he was going back to his room.

We've gotta think about this. We found evidence from the garden, the daycare, the archives and Arumat's room. Some of the evidence came from the airlock and the medbay. How could one person do all of this in the span of a couple of hours, and not to mention why haven't we figured out why all of these items tie in together yet?

[personal profile] antietam 2016-08-01 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I think one person could have done it because, in the end, they had plenty of time. They could have prepared certain items earlier, and then they had all night to hide things.

Not all of the evidence could have been used, right? The struggle in the room is what's confusing me most. Especially the use of his scythe... if they strangled him and knocked him out, maybe with the mirror and the wall, there'd be no need for that.
chiseler: (getting off a binge)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-01 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
There'd be no need unless they wanted to make it look like it was a real struggle and not whatever really happened. Some people like to do things with dramatic flair. How long have we spent obsessing about that?

[personal profile] antietam 2016-08-01 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
A while. We even did tests and everything. Someone should chart up all the hours we've wasted in trials. [ He's upset. ]

So—they wanted to make it look like a struggle. How is that going to help us figure out who did it? How does any of this evidence point to someone?
chiseler: (with a thousand lies and a good disguise)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's like you said. If it was just the strangling, the killer would have all night to plant and hide evidence. So that would mean...what, reviewing everybody's alibis again? [He can tell Adam's frustrated too so a hand comes up to rub between his shoulder blades. Look, one of them has to stay calm and it's probably not going to be Luke.] That's all I can think of.

[personal profile] antietam 2016-08-01 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ That does help and he takes some breaths to calm himself down. He has to be the rational one. ]

Yeah. Maybe it just comes down to who could have done it? I don't think we've found enough reason why two people had to be involved here.
chiseler: (see them running for their lives)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-01 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Good. He's listening and nodding along, but...he's going to grab for the journal he'd brought out of his room to show Jason and a pen, quickly scrawling something down for only Adam to see.]

You'd lie for me and I'd for you. Who says Bull and Dorian wouldn't do the same? Just a thought. Don't be mad. [And as soon as he's sure Adam's read it he's quickly scribbling it out to where it's entirely illegible.]

[personal profile] antietam 2016-08-01 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ Adam nods and he doesn't look mad. ]

I know. But then how do we prove anything?
chiseler: (and no one even knew)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hypnosis where we get everybody to 'fess up their memories? Otherwise I don't know. We've gotta be clever in our questions.

[personal profile] antietam 2016-08-01 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
... We can do it. [ Convincing both himself and Luke. He's just going to lean on him anyway because that's the only way he's not going to freak out. ]
