WEEK 8 - Trial
the pygmalion. . . ONLINE ![]() CAPTAIN'S LOG: WEEK (8) |
saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (22) survivors ![]() At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote. |

~10 pm: Spent some time in the weapons locker taking notes on the contents.
10:30 pm: Engaged in personal training in the gym.
12 am: Took tea in viewport and embroidered until I was exhausted.
~2:15 am: Bathed and waited for my hair to dry before I slept.

7PM - Used a tablet in the parlor.
7:30PM - Went back to my room.
8:30PM - Left my room, talked with Dorian and Bull as they walked to their room.
8:45PM - Went to the archives. Stayed for a while.
Midnight - Went to Luke's room. Slept.
6AM? - The alarm woke me up. I went out to shut it off, then went back to sleep.
8:30 AM - Woke up for the body announcement.
the iron bull
6:00 - 7:00 - In the gym. Best place on this ship.
6:30pm - 7:30pm - Getting dinner in the cafeteria. With Dorian. Judar hung around too, tried to start a food fight.
7:30pm - 8:30 - The usual. Took a walk around, stopped by to take another look at that catsuit. Then went to find Dorian, figured he might need some looking after.
8:30 - 9:00 - Herding Dorian back to the room, so he could sleep it off. Ran into Adam here.
9:00 - 9:20ish - Dropped off Dorian, went back out to get him more food, some water. Stuff like that.
9:20 - midnight - played that game, Furry Passing? They don’t mention how addictive that shit is. Should really come with a warning.
Midnight - 6:00am - Was asleep. Like anyone would be until they’re woken up by someone deciding to murder at the worst blasted time.
6:00am - 8:00am Went back to sleep, because seriously? If you’re going to kill each other do it at a reasonable hour.

6:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Dinner in the cafeteria. Bull was there, Judar happened by as well.
7:30 PM - after 8PM: Wandered off to take a stroll and enjoy some peace and quiet. Drinks in the zero grav room. Bull came by to accompany me back to my quarters.
8:30PM - 9:00PM thereabouts: Ran into Adam in the hall and exchanged pleasantries.
9:00PM: Retired for the evening. Spent the night in the Bull’s room, thanks to the evidently quite helpful buddy system rules.
6:00AM: Awakened to that dreadful alarm. Went back to sleep.
7:00 AM - 8:00AM: Returned to my quarters to look presentable.
8:00AM - 9:00AM: Investigating
luke castellan
7pm-9pm: Weapons room…the giant key mystifies me, what did you expect?
9pm-10pm: Robotics lab. Wanted to see what else could be printed out.
10pm-12am: Archives. Grell and I had spoken earlier this week about looking for medical texts since we’ve managed to kill all of our doctors, so I wanted to see what I could find and help out that way. I'd planned on finding her Friday morning if I found anything (hint: I didn't. I ended up reading about other stuff.)
12am-6am: Grabbed Parrish, brought him back to my room. Slept.
6am-6:30am: The alarm went off. I can never go back to sleep when I wake up, so I went to the gardens for a little bit to clear my head. Noticed some things were out of place, went to go figure it out.
6:30am-8am: Cafeteria for coffee, theorizing, and then ended up going to the parlor to check out a new tablet to see if maybe I could identify some things. Stayed there until the body announcement went off.
Findings
All evidence and other information found during the course of investigation should be listed here.
daycare findings
• One of those fireproof suits. It's scorched really badly in the front and at the sides.
• A little piece of melted plastic from the pocket.
• A broken syringe.

Body
A holographic screen above the body displays two color photos of the scene when the body discovery alarms rang at 8:30 AM. The photographs are close ups - they portray Arumat's body, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check their position, it makes it easy to do so.

Greetings, participants. As always, I am at your disposal should you need to ask anything. Good luck.

I suppose fate has decreed it's my turn to be interrogated now.
[and to think, she had considered going to speak to him - how he had offered if the motive had become too much to bear...now she must find the truth for him.]

Miss Grell - was there anything odd about the Medbay? I'm assuming if there was a missing syringe, you wouldn't be silent about it.

Cutting up beds
Alice has provided us with some beds. We should test the weapons on them and see how they compare to Arumat's bed.
[and she's going to slice Bull's if there are no objections]

talking about evidence
[Speaking like he didn't participate in that conversation??? Thanks, Jason Todd.]
We know one of the fireproof suits was found in the Daycare. We also know that Arumat had fire related abilities. So unless we've somehow overlooked a missing matchbox or a flamethrower? I think it's safe to assume the scorch marks were produced by magic... Arumat's, or someone else's. Whatever the case, our killer came prepared for an altercation.
Clover also pointed out there was a piece of melted plastic in the suit's pocket. Seems pretty reasonable to assume it could be the remains of another universal keycard, but we shouldn't discard any of the other special tools so easily. We all know what happened last week.
[They were fooled by the vents, man. Fooled by the vents.]
Then there's the broken syringe and missing flowers to consider. One possible theory is that our killer expected Arumat to be asleep when they got to his room, and thought they could just stab him with the needle while he was out. Though, I guess the clay shaping wire could mean they came prepare to strangle the shit out of him if that weren't the case.
[Which is apparently the true. Thanks for being a strangling enthusiast, Jack.]
It's kinda curious, too, how the water from Arumat's bathroom managed to make it down to the bottom deck. Any ideas for how long that could've taken? The estimated time of death in the autopsy report is a joke, so this might help us figure out how much time the killer had to get clean and rejoin the rest of us.
no subject
We should try burning a replica of the keycard to see. I'd do it myself, but. [ Shrug. ]
Not with the incinerator, though. Something lighter.

weapons test results
It looks like the only weapon anyone had that really matches the way Arumat's bed is cut is his own scythe. [which she is still holding for the time being and just. casually gesturing to the destruction with it. the robots are absolutely going to come take it from her momentarily but until then she's just using it to point at things.] It makes sense. He wouldn't have gone down without a fight.

ask me about strangulation vs. choking
[ he feels old ok
But Jack's colorful commentary aside, he does actually have something to share. ]
So, checked out the body, and looks like Arumat was garotted with that wire we found. No real way to tell if that actually killed him, but, hey, just adding strangulation into the mix here. Marks were definitely deep enough that he coulda been strangled, and trust me, I am an expert on strangulation.
[ Jack definitely sounds way more proud of that than he should be. Also, don't ask, since you probably don't want to know more. ]

WATER RESULTS
So, we've learned that the amount of water damage seen yesterday took about eleven or twelve hours to get to that level. From that, we can estimate the time of Arumat's murder to be between 8 and 9PM on Thursday night. If we go by alibis, Bull, Dorian and Adam all ran into each other around that time, leaving them either not a lot of time to set up what looked to be a complicated murder. [...or they are accomplices but he leaves that hanging for now] Madame Grell also went to the medbay around 8PM and said that she hadn't noticed a syringe missing at the time. [she could be lying to cover herself but. y'know] Outside of that, starting from nine, all of our suspects were alone.
We also need to keep in mind that if the murder ran too far past nine, the water might not have been leaking when Emily noticed it, so we're looking at a pretty tight frame of time no matter what.

DAY ONE TRIAL END
[ At 7PM on the dot, the ritual from last trial is repeated; the screens phase away, as if powered down without warning. The corpse is closed off, the door shut nice and tight, and the same is done with the evidence case. Should anyone attempt to get into either of them, they would find it wholly impossible: the trial is put on hold for some rest, once again. ]
It is 7PM, participants. As usual, the trial shall be placed on hold until the morning. Dinner will be held in this room, like last trial. Please do not stab the robots. They will take your order and bring it out to you. They cannot do this if they are damaged. To ensure that there will be no tampering with the evidence, all participants are to remain in this room. Blankets and entertainment shall be provided shortly, and should you find a change of clothes necessary, that can also be arranged.
[ A few moments later, the screens and tablets are on again, this time providing a selection of classic parenthood movies, and retro gaming. Anyone who leaves will be accompanied by a robot, and then ushered back into the conference room. You're stuck in a sleepover with the corpse near you again, it seems.
Feel free to thread out any of the evening's interactions here. ]
