still, it takes a moment for her to respond as she considers it. she could accept, but let it be a lie. she could decline, and let it be the truth. the first is prettier, cleaner, she knows: luke might not believe her, but it's an easier pill to swallow. the latter gives her chills, but she gets the inkling he's used to teenagers lying. she lets out a thoughtful hum. ]
I can't... make a promise that isn't in my control. Before you even noticed it, you'd changed. It's the same for me. It always has been. [ tends to happen when your canon is LITERALLY ALREADY A MURDERGAME, goddamn it ] I'm not sure why it'd be a concern of your's... hmmm. Maybe you like kids, actually?

That's the thing I hate the most about this place. The lack of control. [His life had been chaotic in the end and out of his control, and despite the fact it was mostly his own fault, he's aware enough that the only reason Olympus was saved was he was able to break someone else's control.] Guess I should say it's what I hate in general. Kind of a bummer we can't control the change ourselves all the time.
[He shrugs, finally taking a bite of the cupcake to mull over that.] I worked as a counselor at a camp for five years of my life, what makes you think I like kids? [Even as he says it, there's something in his expression that's a dead giveaway. Kids are always his weak point.]

You told me not to let this age me too much! You must want me to enjoy my youth, right? [ she does wonder if there's a nugget of truth in that, though. it's left unsaid, and yuno places a hand over her mouth to hide the laughter. it's a very poor attempt. ]
Don't worry. I'm sure that we can seize control again, though I can't exactly control how quickly I grow up.

I'm just saying as somebody who's seen what happens to kids who don't get to be a kid, enjoying your youth is way better. [He gives her another considering look.] Besides, I think you've already captured a certain kind of maturity some kids your age don't have. You're already letting your control slip.

also he's eating her cupcakes. he can't be that bad. ]
Well, Mom and Dad have been overseas for business for around two years. I've gotten used to taking care of things on my own, so maybe it just shows.
