WEEK 7 - Trial Day Two

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (7)

sunday TRIAL DAY TWO

(24) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

cloaking device

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I know what the metal is now. [ He'll place the cloaking device he burned with the evidence to compare to it to the chrome object. They look like they could be a plausible match. ]

I burned the cloaking device in the incinerator and it came out looking chrome. I believe the killer used the cloaking device to get around the ship. As for the paper—I don't know, it may have been a trick to get us to think they used the map.

My problem now is, how did they know where to go in the vents?

Did they go in the vents? It may have been a matter of finding the vent in the kitchen, and knowing of the one in the pod room, and just making them both appear tampered with.

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, but there was still that sound in the vents. It didn't sound like a person moving through, but...

Not to mention, how would they know there was a direct way to get from the kitchen to the pod room?
tevinteriscoming: (concerned. 2)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-07-24 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...

Hadn't you and Luke and the others explored the vents before?
antietam: (pic#10442020)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I guess there would be at least a few people who knew how it worked.

Should we assume they didn't use the kitchen vent? Someone who could fly would be able to get up there easily which may have been their intention. Frame someone.
tevinteriscoming: (complain. 2)

[personal profile] tevinteriscoming 2016-07-24 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we'd need to figure out how the noise was made.

I wonder. Could the monitor have been left in the vent, tied up with twine? Then the person under the cloaking device would only need to stand in the room and tug on the twine to get the monitor to rattle it about?

Did they have to know there was a direct way? After all the bullshit this past week, messing with any vent is gonna get us worked up.

Couldn't the sound in the vents just have been some stuff they'd tied up? There's string all over the crime scene, right?

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It just seems weird that, say, they didn't use the vent in the kitchen but they managed to choose the vent in the arrival room to mess with by chance, not even knowing there was a direct path.

There also wasn't anything found in the vents, so they would have had to remove it at least.

What do you mean 'not knowing'? We all saw what happened to Turkey Guy, even if most of us didn't actually go crawling into those nasty ass vents.

Why would they even go into the vents if they had a cloaking device?
antietam: (pic#9385155)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true, but it seems like an awful lot of work to make us think that the vents were used for no reason.

[personal profile] thatbites 2016-07-24 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
And? It distracted us for a whole day. That's a lot of lost time that could have been focused on finding out who really did it.
antietam: (pic#10442017)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They had to make some noise in the vents, right? So they had to put something in there and then take it out.

But I agree that if we can assume the kitchen vent wasn't used, it makes it a lot easier for someone who can't fly to commit the murder. [ Way to make yourself more suspicious Emily!! ]

[... He doesn't like where this one is going, but.]

They could have explored the vents by themselves before the whole mess with the aliens. Figured out which vent connects where and mapped it out on their own.
antietam: (pic#10442016)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. [ HOW IS LUKE NOT THE MURDERER, adam asks himself. ] There were some people working on that.

We only have reason to believe they went from the kitchen to the arrival room and that's a direct path. Of course, that's not certain. They could have snuck out behind the investigators.
antagonize: (024)

[personal profile] antagonize 2016-07-24 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Assuming they crawled around the vents at all. The only reason we have to believe they used the vents at this point is the noise Arumat and Luke heard. There must have been some kind of set up, since it didn't quite sound like someone crawling away.

[Also:]

With the cloaking device in play, it's entirely possible they waltzed out as soon as the investigators opened the door. Wouldn't have been too hard. And on foot? I don't think it would take them a full 10 minutes to get to the incinerator.
antietam: (pic#10442017)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're right. Judar mentioned that anyone who heard about Todd being moved from the arrival room to the kitchen would have known there'd be a path, so it seems like an easy way to get us to focus on the vents.
thanatosincarnate: (> Aside)

[personal profile] thanatosincarnate 2016-07-24 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmph...they likely made sure to explore the vents constantly, or always had the chance to do so more than others. Therefore, they'd know where to go.

{ aka its totally an alien isnt it }
antietam: (pic#10332797)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if it's a monster or someone who really wants us to think it's a monster.
thanatosincarnate: (> Captain)

[personal profile] thanatosincarnate 2016-07-24 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking its the former.

It had to have been someone who knew their way around, for them to use the vents with ease. And since we ruled out the tool not being a vent map...
antietam: (pic#9385155)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... if they wanted to make us think the vents were used, the kitchen and the arrival room being linked by a vent could be done by anyone. Remember Todd? [ He sure didn't. Thanks Judar. ]

[Good job Adam. On the one hand he's glad they have a lead. On the other, this is really disconcerting.]

...that means we just let the killer walk right out the door. [Fuck.] The thing is it doesn't explain what Arumat and I heard and why. I don't want to think it was coincidentally timed enough that we weren't paying attention, but it's also unlikely our killer befriended the aliens for their help. [So??? He's sort of burying his head in his hands. Ugh this is so hard.] Whatever it was was something on a specific timer maybe. It didn't last long and it just...stopped. We didn't find anything else in the vents either and when Jason and I were testing stuff he couldn't hear anything from the vent in the cafeteria when I was in the vent in the kitchen.

We need more reason to believe why the vents were used at all, I guess.
antietam: (pic#10442016)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You couldn't have known that. [ He'll just. Nudge at Luke's head with his knuckles. Comforting?? ]

I guess a kitchen timer wouldn't make sounds like that? If the sound happened while the door still wasn't open, it's possible the killer was out with y'all and just waiting in the vent to make a noise with... something. I don't know. There was something with the water too that we haven't figure out.
chiseler: (hear the angels sing)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-07-24 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a sound that's pretty much a groan of defeat. Thank you for trying anyway.]

A timer wouldn't have, but maybe a recording on a datapad? Remember that alarm that went off during Raleigh's murder that Dave found? Who knows? [The "y'all" gets a slight grin though.] I'm guessing the water was still to wash off blood but there's no proof. That's the only problem.
antietam: (pic#9385148)

[personal profile] antietam 2016-07-24 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He frowns at the grin. Don't make him self-conscious!! ]

How would they get a recording of skittering? I mean, I guess they could make the sound with their fingers, but then they wouldn't need to record it. It can't be as simple as that, right?
