WEEK 6 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (6)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(29) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Blood and alcohol. Tend to go together, not exactly surprising.

[ Letting her take the bathroom - checking out Jack's clothes, anything unusual in there? ]

Clover doing it seems like it'd be too risky on her part. Too much of a chance of getting caught in her own trap. Elizabeth . . . don't think she has the stomach for it. Know this guy likes his guns, but get the feeling he's also the up close and personal type. Not exactly a trap setter. Other two. Hard to get a read on.

[ thank you bull, that's what jack has been trying to say!! before he mcfreakin lost it, but ]

[ The bathroom is also a mess, pretty unsurprisingly. That trail of blood leads to the toilet where there's a larger, dry pool at the side of it, so presumably Jack can and sat over here. The bottle of liquor is sitting on the counter, roughly 3/4 full, and there's a towel tossed pretty casually to the corner of the bathroom by the shower. It also has a fair amount of blood on it. There's also another towel on the rack with some much fainter blood stains, as if the blood had been mixed with water when it got on the towel, though they're much more localized to one area as compared to the much heavier staining in the other.

Also, there's definitely a knife sitting on the bathroom counter.

Jack's clothes are... hideous! There is a lot of yellow shirts, dad Vans, and just generally weird Space Dad taste all around. There's nothing odd about what's currently in his wardrobe, though if Bull looks through the dirty clothes/wherever laundry goes, there are a few blood-stained articles of clothing. There's a shirt that's fairly heavily stained with a rip in the side where Jack got stabbed, another shirt with lighter staining, but no tear, and a pair of pants that have light blood stains towards the top on the side of the stab wound. ]

Clover... I think she is the most unlikely culprit. Her grief seems honest and deep. I doubt she would lead her brother into danger, as clear as it is she cares for him.

[looking over the blood and towels with a frown, as well as the knife. she picks it up with a towel very carefully so as not to smudge any fingerprints, even if it seems fairly clear who used it. she walks out to bull.]

As for this man... I wonder. It looks as though the knife is here in the bathroom. I know he was injured, but if it were me, I wouldn't have let my assailant leave without so much as a scratch. He does not seem a forgiving person.

See, a good old fashioned liquor n' stabbing. That's good clean violence. Worth getting the details of what the fuck went down here but, nah. Forgiving ain't exactly how I'd describe him either, but there's some weird shit going on there.

[Checking the beds for any more hidden knives or "I did it" confession notes.]

[ The bed is unmade, but otherwise free of blood! Thank god, one place in the room that's not a disaster. ]

At the very least, I can't imagine he would neglect to clean up the glass if it was incriminating in any way, I suppose.

[off to check out the desk, now!]

Doesn't exactly speak to the kind of guy who'd meticulously plan out anything, but don't want to underestimate him.

[And, as is his duty, checking the trash.]

[ As compared to everything else in his room, the desk is almost meticulously neat. Everything is laid out in a methodical way, including a small stack of papers. However, the papers themselves will probably be near indecipherable to Adelina and Bull both, since they're full of shorthand notes, hardcore math, and strange diagrams. They could be elaborate messages saying "the killer was definitely jack" or... They're notes and work he's been doing on the application he mentioned in his alibi.

The trashcan is empty, save for a single crumpled up page like the rest, though in more shorthand that would seem to have to do with the diagram. Mutexes, whatever they are, are apparently frustrating, since the scratching out of lines get increasingly rougher as you go down the page. ]

[she pulls the papers out and scans over them, frowning as she goes. it's a long shot, but she walks over to bull (taking care once more) and holds the papers out so he can see them.]

I don't suppose you can make sense of these?

[He casts an eye over them, and shakes his head. He knows what complex math looks like, but it's not his field, and the rest is gibberish to him.]

Not really. Doesn't look incriminating - just notes. Probably don't say "I did it" in code.

[Another glance around, anything left of interest here?]

[ Nope! It actually seems like other than the stuff relating to the stabbing, the room is largely quite neat. Maybe Jack is a pretty tidy person when he hasn't been stabbed? It's a mystery. ]

I thought as much. I was merely curious.

[she does take note of the neatness apart from the glass and blood, and files that information away. she looks up towards bull.]

Are you satisfied, or is there more you would examine?

Think we're good here. You taking the knife?

[Always good to have a knife. Even if you gotta leave it in evidence.]

Of course. Do you think we should bring the glass along as well?

Glass, bloody clothes. Sure.

[He'll grab those things, just in case.]

Could be unrelated, but can't be positive. Gotta see everything laid out to make sense of this one, I'm guessing.

Of course. That reminds me - let me fetch the towels as well.

[going back into the bathroom to fetch them quickly, and then coming back out]
