So she holds him tight and there is no hysterical screaming, just her shoulders shaking and tiny hiccups and too many tears. She'll waste her tears on this, she won't let him tell her what they are and aren't worth—it doesn't matter, does it? It won't change anything whether or not she cries. So goddamn it, she's going to cry.]
I have to. [Cry or make it through? But not I will, not even okay; it is what Light has asked of her so she has no other choice. It isn't fair, for her to live on an obligation.]

[She has to.
She has to or else Light would be crushed. Frankenstein would have failed just one more time - and isn't that just salt in the wound? Regardless, he holds her for as long as he can. Some part of his mind racing. He doesn't have answers for this. He's never had answers for this. The grief of humans has always been so unbearably foreign to him, especially when some portion of the grief is directed at him.
His lifetime has been filled with anger, scorn, and fear sent in his direction.
When given tears for his wellbeing, he's not sure what to do.]
... I cannot say that the pain will ever be less, but at some point it will become bearable.
And you will not be alone.

[The answer comes muffled against his shirt but it's almost immediate—too much of who she is has been built around her brother, and how can she be expected to be stable enough to bear the pain of loss when her very foundation's collapsed all around her?
She will always be alone. There will always be silence in the place of constant quiet resonance and she will always, always be alone. To say otherwise will be the last lie he gets to tell her.
And it isn't fair. No one gets what they deserve.
She can't stay like this forever. She is maybe just a little sturdier like this, and so maybe she doesn't want to let go, but when she finally does she wipes her face and looks ahead with a determined frown. She can't stay. There is more she has to do here. If nothing else at all, she'll find fire in her again.
time to kick some alien ass pops]
