WEEK 5 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (5)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(32) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

At least I'm not the one at the bottom of the pool.

But to serious matters - didn't see anyone in either case. I left the pool close to 8am to grab a bite, and I didn't bother going back either.

Anyone could have been at the bottom of the pool, show some respect.

[ She says firmly, but not completely... mean? #men ]

You realize this creates a hole in your alibi... [ But he can see her face fluster a bit when she asks him next: ] Did you ... uhm... towel off once you left the pool? Have clothes with you? The only water that was found was near the edge...

Alright, alright. I'm sorry. I'll take this more seriously.

[SIGH ok fun police.]

I took my own towel from my room. I dried off, put on the same clothes I always wear, and then left to get breakfast. I dropped my towel off in my room before I went in.

[ She's lame as fuck, lets be real. ]

...I'd like to see the towel. If that's alright.

[ She's really sorry, but she has to put her bias aside. ]

It's an item that was brought to the crime scene, it's valid to look at it. Just in case...

No problem. You can go into my room when we start doing searches and see for yourself.

Alright. I will.

[ But a pause. She says his name with a sad, but endearing tone. ]

Hancock?

[ You know, dumb angst. ]

You had better pray that I don't find anything.

[ Her words twist, sinking in like daggers. Her eyes were more determined - more mature than she ever had come off. Her fists grip a little tightly, more unsure of anyone's innocence as each week passes. ]

Please don't make me regret putting my faith in you. It's one of the few things I have left.

[Her words startle him a little, just because it is so blunt. More than she's ever been before. Once the pause of shock wears off, he nods.]

You won't regret it. I promise.

[He makes a small smile, and then remembers something important.]

Also, while we're on the subject. There's something I want to give you. Something important. Can you keep it safe for me?

...

[ His question catches her off guard. She's not accustomed to a mood switching so quickly (despite her own z-snap into formation). She's puzzled, perking an eyebrow. ]

I can try.

[He opens up his coat a bit and reaches his hand inside. Out of an inner-pocket, he pulls a napkin.]

It's something I've been wanting to tell you, and I wrote it down because I didn't feel very confident improvising. Now...it isn't a good time right now, but just in case something happens to me, I want you to have it. You can look if you wanna, but it shouldn't come as any big surprise.

[He then takes her hand and puts it into her palm, taking her other hand and clasping it over. Should she take a look at it, this is what it will say.]

Take good care of it for me. If I get outta this, maybe I'll be able to say it out loud.

Oh God...

[ She feels her voice crack when the moment becomes more serious. More than she could have imagined. Faith is believing in something when all odds stack against them, right? She still can't believe he could do this... not now. Not after how lawful he had been - even if it was too brutal for her own perception.

She shakes her head, gulping deeply. ]

No.. no, you need to keep this -

[ Elizabeth feigns a smile, speaking out of her own disbelief. ] We'll find the right person. We'll find the murderer and your innocence - it'll be clear.

[ He holds onto her hand and she balls her fist tightly, knowing exactly what this was. ]

Hancock... I - [ She looks away, the very thought of innocence or deceit - the napkin was a lot for her to come to terms with. ] We'll cross this bridge when we come to it.

[He shakes his head when she tells him to keep it, knowing full well he doesn't want anyone but her seeing it. And he's glad that she understands what he means when he gives her this.]

Don't worry. We'll find the son of a-- the culprit. We'll find them. [He snickers a little.] Let's focus on the trial and talk later.
