WEEK 5 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (5)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(32) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

It's more than okay, but I'll take it.

If it's for a war, wouldn't a set back have potentially dire consequences? Even the time it takes for you to prepare new blueprints might be too long a delay.

Not really! Now that they've been drawn up once, it wouldn't take me more than a day or two to redraw them. I've got it all memorized up here. [she taps her head with her finger.]

Most of the core work was more or less done anyway, having the blueprints was more for everyone else to be able to understand it on paper than for me to build it. Besides even my Commander's a bit of a stiff, that's what makes him pretty good at holding things off when there's a setback.

If it's true you have it memorized, you'll be able to replicate them. Or would it be cheeky to ask?

It'd be cheeky if I weren't expecting it.

[it earns him a wink, at least.]

It'll take me a little bit, but I can throw down some rough copies with the specs. They won't be as cute and neat as the originals, but all the information should be accurate.

Good. At least we'll have some confirmation that what you say is true. Won't that be a shock, if any part of this exercise won't have been useless?

If it was anyone but me, then maybe! But at this point, I'll take much of anything that's going to speed up this process. Having eyes looking on the innocent until it's crunch time really hasn't been my style before, and I don't really plan on changing that now that those eyes are on me.

[these trials move way too slow for her liking. doubly so as a suspect.]

Let's get some paper and get to confirming, then! [smile smile. her spirits are definitely oscillating between "done with this murder shit" and "keeping bright as ever."]

Yes. I would also prefer we avoid dangling over the edge of a cliff before we come to any conclusions.

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm! You got it!

[she'll hum and get to work, and after while (she's going to make it look as good as she can, okay!), she'll have drawn up six swords, and with it detailing the names the of the swords (Clemente, Igtenos, Chaltier, Atwight, Dymlos and Berselius, respectively), as well as their length, weight, elemental arte magic capabilities and a vague description of the housed core crystals they all possess).

it's all pretty detailed, she's not playing around right now.]

I think that should be good enough, yeah?

Yes, it is.

[Well. It really looks like the drawings of some swords and the names of some crystals. It doesn't seem that complicated. But okay.]

If it's honestly so easy, why is it your item? There's nothing you'd want more? You must admit it's rather curious.

I guess I don't put that much value in items? When you can build everything that's worthwhile yourself, it only matters if it can't be fixed or replaced.

[she already lost the most important thing to her anyway, and it wasn't a material item.] I know it doesn't seem like it, but I do care more about the people around me.

[even if it's just because she wants to vivisect and experiment on them, but now's probably not the time to get mad scientist on things.]

I suppose that makes sense. And I didn't intend to accuse you of not caring. It would be a terrible thing, to commit murder over a simple object. I know I would hate to be accused of it.

It's fine, it's fine. There's not much we can do about it, right? Tensions get pretty high right about this time. I'm sure some of those items probably mean enough to whoever did the deed that they'd be willing. People get motivated by some pretty weird stuff.

[but she's not one of those people, obviously!]
