saturday TRIAL DAY ONE (32) survivors At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort. The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up. The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body. To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it. Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Body

The right area of the room has been sectioned off by a glass partition, which players can enter via a vertical sliding door. Carta's body has been laid out on a sterile metal autopsy table. Her body is covered with a plastic sheet, but the sheet can be removed. Other than the position and the sheet, the body has not been changed from how they were found.

A holographic screen above the body displays two color photos of the scene when the body discovery alarms rang at 9:15AM. The photographs are close ups - they portray Carta's body, but no more of the scene than is necessary to do so. Still, if you want to check their position, it makes it easy to do so.

[ For once, Jack isn't just sleeping through the whole trial or whatever happens when I'm busy, so. He's going to head over the body to inspect it. There's the bullet wound, but rather than focus on the obvious, he'll start inspecting the bruises on her wrist first. How deep is the bruising, and how thin are the marks? ]

[The bruising's not on her wrists, but on the inside of her forearms. They're about an inch or so wide and not very dark in color.]

[ WHOOPS pretend I can read, my bad... How many bruises are there like this? ]

[Looks like two on each arm.]

[ Neat. If he can, he'll move the forearms to be roughly next to each other, and if not, he'll just make his best guess here. Are the bruises roughly aligned, as in, if you did have the arms next to each other, would they make a line across both arms? Or are they spaced more randomly? ]

[It's a bit uneven, but they roughly align.]

[ With that in mind, Jack will go fetch at least the pole part of the pool net and compare it to the bruises to see how the width of the pole matches against them. ]

[Looks like it's a possible match.]

Thought so.

[ Jack will lean the pole against the wall or whatever, and then move on to check the bruises on her stomach. Are they roughly the same as the ones on her forearms, or are they different in quality? ]

[They're roughly the same size.]

[refactor]

[ That's the less obvious part taken care of, so now for the obvious, he guesses. Jack is going to take a closer look at that bullet wound on her forehead. First thing's first, does it look like it came from a gun fired at a close range or a farther one? ]

[Kind of hard to tell. He's going to have to get more specific in what he's looking for.]

[ Stop making me google questionable things!!! He's looking for contact wounds implying direct contact, thermal burns for very close range (10 cm or less), and any tattooing and its density. I'm citing my sources in case it helps, but I mean, as expected, this has gross pictures. ]

[No thermal burns, tattooing, contact wounds, or anything else that would imply direct contact from the gun.]

[ Okay this is happening. Luke and Adam want to find a way to tell if there's significant water in her lungs. ]

Do you know the Heimlich? Since you were in charge of kids.

[chiseler]

[How did this become his life...]

Yeah, I do. You think it'll work on a corpse though? The Heimlich's usually used for when somebody's choking and something's stuck in their windpipe. [But he's busy thinking, a hand lightly pressing her ribcage. Apparently Luke has no problems touching corpses. Cool.] If there's water in her lungs it's going to take more than trying to get her to couch it up I think.

Just being hopeful. [ Assuming they have a knife, Adam's probably got a hold on it because he's been taught in the corpse desecration ways. ] It's easier than cutting her up, so can you check?

[chiseler]

[He'll let Adam hold onto that knife and he's eyeing the body before there's a heavy sigh.]

All right, all right. [Ugh. Give him a sec, he's going to just...manipulate the body a bit and get his hands in a position to try and Heimlich the body. Let's see if that works.]

[al2955]

[Apparently Google says it does not, so nothing comes out her mouth.]

Alright, fine, I can check the lungs. [ Time to put some gloves on and go for it. Thankfully Adam doesn't seem too bothered thanks to Bull's tactic of repressing so he's going to cut into her chest.

The organs are a little bit trickier but once he gets to the lungs, he'll cut into one. Is there a significant amount of water? ]

[Well, there's a lot of blood. And lung fluid. Kind of hard to tell if there's water amidst all that liquid.

If he sticks his nose into it though, there's a chlorine smell in there.]

[chiseler]

Man, you were hesitant to hit me with the mannequin leg but you're fine with stabbing a body? [He's trying not to laugh, this is fine. Luke, unfortunately, isn't wearing gloves but he's trying not to touch her or set his hands in the blood. He's not even trying to intentionally smell anything, but he's eyeing everything to see if you can tell the difference between pool water and lung fluid.

I mean the answer's no, but Luke's not a doctor. However...]

...so. Pools have chlorine in them, don't they? [That's. Not really enough to go by and now they've just sort of destroyed her chest cavity. Whoops.] Great.

This is different. [ IT'S DIFFERENT LUKE. He'll double check what Luke is smelling before nodding. ]

I guess we've definitely determined she was in the pool. [ At some point. Yup. ] Anything else we should do while we're here?

Unless you can think of another way we can determine how long she was in the water before Jason found her? I'm not sure what else we can do yet.
