saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

[maybe he was worried you'd get burnt? also, that the rest of them would get burnt? that said, he wants to know the results, especially since he was half-convinced someone had somehow deep-fried allen the first day of the trial]

Then, the next question is whose fabric got burnt. No one found anything in the room searches?

Not that I know of, but there's also the idea that whatever it belonged to is still on whoever's responsible. The fabric in the cell wasn't that big either.

I dunno... If you were gonna hide it on your person, why burn part of it in the first place? Just burn it all, or wear it all.

Hate to say it but that also makes sense, but at this point it kinda points to burning all of it.

Try burning one of Lavi's bandanas.

...Worth a shot? And idk it's not like Alice didn't let me run back to everyone's rooms to steal shoes. We can just go steal a spare, unless you wanna like. Help me divest him of one but thievery sounds all around easier to me.

Once soaked in oil, the cloth burns and produces similar ash, but it's still nowhere near enough to match the amount of ash found in the cell.]

[He's still hoping it's not Lavi but you know. So with Dave stealing the bandana and Luke lighting the thing on fire once it's soaked in oil, he'll throw it into the middle of the table and let it burn and leave the ash.]

First of all, I appreciate you stealing things and I'm gonna keep that in mind for the future. Second of all, I'm still not sure this is a match. Check it out.

This is between Machias and Lavi at this point right? What other kind of clothes are small enough not to be, like, a shirt but they're bigger than a bandana? [Minako's report on Lavi's room just mentioned scarves, and doesn't Machias wear ties?

Unless it's the whole package. An entire outfit of some kind. If we pretend it's Lavi, he could have had time to go change his clothes, haul Machias down to the holding cell, and then light his clothes on fire right? [HOW DOES TIME WORK?]

I mean, Machias couldn't have done the clothes burning, yeah? Shelley heard someone coming and someone leaving...or was this pre-murder? Ugh, fuck this case with a rusty spork.

Uh. Shelley said she heard somebody come into the cellars at about 5:30am Friday morning. Machias was found about 9:30am. So...I'm gonna guess all of that was post-murder.

Look if we have to light someone's entire outfit on fire, fine, but that doesn't exactly answer who could have done it. Though...yeah. Machias couldn't have really done that if he was knocked out.

Yeah, I just...like, Machias clearly shot the dude, but it makes zero sense for the third party not to have told us Machias did the killing part if he, you know, did it. So I don't buy him as the culprit.

Which loops us back to Lavi. [Fuck.] With all of the other theories floating around? All of that makes sense.

Why would he need to change? He had the invisibility spell, he could have just run around the ship butt-naked before plopping it back on Allen.

Why do you make sense? [Gods, Judar.] I suppose that's entirely possible, but then how would the killer get away with carrying around Machias? You think they left him in the garden with Allen, went back to their own room invisibly and then moved on from there?

I dunno, I just think it'd be hilarious if he was streaking through the halls the whole time.

He could have been wearing the bloody clothes while carrying Machias, then stripped in the cell and streaked back to his room or to the garden, I guess?
