WEEK TWO - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (2)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(38) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Do me a favor - you find any drugs, give them to me. For inspection reasons.

[Where is the lie?

That said, he'll be checking the bed to see if anything is hidden around it (under the pillows, covers, mattress, etc.)

Hey! You leave my nonexistent drugs alone!

[Todd is standing in the doorway, crossing his arms... (and not wearing any shoes...)

Anyway, all he has hidden in his bed is an oregano joint. You don't want that, buddy.]

You can't be serious. This is hardly the time, so let's just focus on the search, all right?

[ He's shaking his head at both of you. For now, Machias will have a look in the shower room, if it's open. Best not to leave that to Shelley in case there's anything inappropriate in there. Anyway, anything immediately out of place in there?

Before he steps in, however, Machias is going to shoot a look at Todd, his eyebrows narrowing in suspicion upon noticing the lack of footwear. ]

You there. Todd. [ He's looking pretty intense right now. ... Moreso than usual. ] What happened to your shoes?

Hell if I know. I left them in here and next thing I know, they're evidence. Those were my nice shoes!

It's always a good time to get high. In fact, I'm high right now and I've never felt better.

[Yes, he took a shot of his mentats just as the trial began. He picks up the joint, examining it for a brief moment before setting it back. Probably not relevant. Once done he'll open up the shelves under the bed, checking if anything is funny in there.]

What, really?

...

Can I have some?

[Nothing exciting to be found. Or, ah. Nothing unusual for a teenage boy with an excessively high libido. Let's just say there's nothing murder-related in there and call it a day.]

Tell ya what - you end up not being a scumbag murderer, and I'll give you some. So you better hope you didn't make a big mistake.
666_blaze_it: (heheh yeah)

[personal profile] 666_blaze_it 2016-06-19 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Sweet! I have never been more psyched not to be a murderer.

[personal profile] breakshot 2016-06-19 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
No.

[ Machias shoots another look at Todd, frowning. He's already getting a headache not just from all the drug talk, but the overall... excessively teenage boy-ness with illicit things hidden in his bed!! ]

Let's at least try to keep a clear head while searching. All right? [ At Todd: ] I'm surprised you don't have any other pairs in here, but nevermind that. Do you recall exactly when your shoes went missing?
666_blaze_it: (I am so high right now)

[personal profile] 666_blaze_it 2016-06-19 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Not really... I think they might have been here this morning, but I was pretty hung over.
breakshot: (you were face down at your computer)

[personal profile] breakshot 2016-06-19 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hm.

[ Machias falls silent for a bit as he finishes up checking the shower, then moves onto Todd's closet (or wherever he keeps his clothes). ... And then, almost suddenly, he speaks up as he shoots another look at Todd, this time with a calm tone. ]

I can see why it'd hard to remember. Why don't we start from the beginning? It might help jog your memory. What time did you say you woke up this morning?
666_blaze_it: (huh?)

[personal profile] 666_blaze_it 2016-06-19 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Nothing obviously murder-y to be found in either location, though he does in fact have a second pair of shoes that ended up buried under the chaotic pile of clothing that lines the bottom of his closet.]

Around 11:00? Something like that.

[personal profile] breakshot 2016-06-19 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Around 11 AM. Right.

[ Machias nods slowly. He actually does notice the extra pair of shoes, but opts not to bring them up, instead carefully going through the pockets and the insides of the clothing (ugh, it's a mess in here). Noticeably, he's not looking quite as intense as before, almost as if he's making a considerate effort to be calm. ]

And you're sure your shoes hadn't gone missing then, right? What about afterwards? If you went out to get lunch that day, were you wearing them then?
666_blaze_it: (whoa what)

[personal profile] 666_blaze_it 2016-06-19 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't say I'm sure, but I went out without them. I had the hangover from hell and I thought to myself, Todd, you'd better not puke on your own birthday shoes. But I couldn't figure out where I'd put the other ones—

Holy shit, do you think the murderer took those ones, too? Double sneaker homicide!?

[personal profile] breakshot 2016-06-19 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. There's a homicide happening in here, all right, but it's not your sneakers.

[ It is such a considerable effort to stay calm through this - that, and Machias doesn't have a whole lot of patience. It's both. He's going to pick up the shoes and have a careful look at them. No blood or anything suspicious? ]

That still helps us pin down a time they could have been taken... at least somewhat. Just to make sure, but you're missing nothing else aside from those?
666_blaze_it: (whoa what)

[personal profile] 666_blaze_it 2016-06-20 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it was just the sneakers.

I think so, anyway...

[ He gazes wistfully into his pile of junk. ]
