WEEK TWO - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (2)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(38) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Music. Everyone had been hearing all these songs from their time... I decided to try and find some familiar ones. [ No T. Swift here, sadly. But, she does go forward: ] Albert Fink's work. I'm still trying to understand what else is capable since Mr. Jack [ Handsome... JAck..... ] said we are locked out of specific areas.

I'll pretend to know who that is. [Whether he means Albert Fink or Handsome Jack, he's not clarifying...] You mean locked out of specific areas on the ship, or on the tablets? I've noticed both but there're two different ways to go about things depending on which one bothers you more.

Did you pass by anybody on your way from the cafeteria back to the med bay?

The tablets! When we first arrived here, Mr. Jack had been fairly hostile in regards to being restricted to the tablets. These are - these are unlike anything I've ever seen so I know nothing of what they're truly for. My first experiences with them are with access restricted.

[ Is she rambling? Yeah, she's trying her best to be thorough. ]

I was merely trying to use it like everyone else - entertainment.

[ His question comes next and she tries to recall. ]

I don't remember... if so, could anyone even verify my appearance? There are countless people on this ship. [ She sighs a bit. ] Only Harold and Jason saw me but that was when I was near the Med Bay.

[Surprisingly he's totally cool with her rambling. And it also helps that he's pretty aware that she's never experienced anything like this thanks to BEING FROM THE 1900s....]

Fair enough. But think about it this way. We've been here for two weeks. That's enough time for people to start recognizing people. There's really only 39 of us we should be worried about and you're the only one who dresses the way you do. Even if people aren't paying attention, anybody could probably pick up "yeah, I passed by her on my way somewhere else."

[...on the other hand, he knows she has a point and he sighs.] Were you alone in the cafeteria? Kinda sounds like you came in as Fiona was leaving.

Right. [ Elizabeth says.. there may have been a few people but she doesn't really pick up anything solid. ] I'm sorry, I just don't remember.

[ When she thinks of the cafeteria, she does nod. ] We passed each other. I needed to finish the our work in the Med Bay - we were labeling things this week... lot of good it did, I guess.

In the cafeteria, however? Besides people grabbing food and leaving, no one lingered.

[If Luke were a nicer person he'd say "it's okay" but all she gets is an understanding nod.]

That also means that just about anybody could have walked past you to check out the second floor of the cafeteria and the rest of the space to scope out the best place to hide Raleigh's body. [Sigh.] Pretty much all I've got to ask until we figure out some more of the story.

[A pause.] ...but I don't think it was you for what it's worth. So relax a little. Pretty sure a lot of people feel the same.

I know. I wish I could be more confident in my answer to you. [ Elizabeth wishes she could offer more... honestly, that's all she wants to do is help. ]

Hey..

[ Elizabeth is going to actually call him out a bit. ]

I think I'm handling this fairly well!

[ Her arms cross and her bottom lip pouts. She can be such a kid sometimes... even in the face of murder? ]

I want answers just as much as anyone else. But - thank you all the same.
