WEEK 11 - TRIAL

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (11)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(13) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

And that door was airtight besides that. Roxy couldn't phase through it. I had to break it open myself with my powers. Good to know Grell was able to bust it down though. [Plastic huh? While Adam's examining, he might already be hovering to take a look, too, while also checking the walls and everything at eyelevel.] The first time we broke into here, Alice told us we weren't permitted into the room at the time. I can't think of what else it'd be besides her core but...you're both better at this kinda stuff than me.

[ Luckily someone here has a mechanical hand, so assuming he can, Jack will just pick up some of that plastic with said hand for them to get a better look at what it might be or might have been from. ]

It's a supercomputer, I can tell you that. Nnnnnot exactly like our systems on Helios, but, yeah, Alice is a good bet here. After all, if it were the control systems? We'd all be super dead.

[ what a nice thought ]

As for the how, dunno. I can do the tech stuff, but you guys are better at the crazy bullshit powers part.

Wouldn't using powers be too obvious? There's not many people who can get in here. [ He eyes the cube curiously but has no idea what it's use would be. The gunpowder is what gets his attention when he tucks the piece of the cloak into his pocket. ]

Makeshift bomb. [ He'll go check if anything stands out on the supercomputer other than total destruction. ]

Let's not point that out to anybody else. [He's going to actually carefully pick up a piece of the shrapnel to get a look at the size of it, trying to figure out if it would match the proximity mine or anything like that. The scent's a little recognizable to him too by now but Adam says what he's thinking.]

Wherever the back-up generators or whatever are, they're not here. Otherwise we'd be floating in space. We should find those before...whoever does first. [He pauses, looking back around their area, letting Adam and Jack look at everything themselves.] You think it's possible the ball wasn't actually made out of water and it just looked like it and that's what all of this is? I didn't think we had enough materials here to make an effective homemade bomb. [Or at least enough people left to know how to do it.]

[ Jack recognizes the type of plastic easily enough, since he'd used the 3D printer at least once before, if only to make a hilarious dick. He nods, then sets the cube down as he explains. ]

Yeah, that's from the 3D printer, byyyy the way.

[ But also not very helpful, since everyone can use that, and if it's the default like it looks? Truly useless. Jack will end up follow Adam to the computer, because if there's anything remotely salvageable in terms of access, that's a pretty interesting tidbit to him to dig into. ]

Probably could make a bomb with enough know-how, since, hey, there's a lot of shit hanging out on this ship, but. Also going to say the list of people capable of that is real small. Maybe even just one. [ He waves a hand dismissively. ] Not well enough that I'd be itching to try, for the record, since mechnical engineering is wayyyy more my forte than chemical, but. Making shit explode isn't that hard.

The ball could have been made to explode, sure, but how? I don't think there's a lot of gunpowder just lying around. That smell earlier—it was strong enough that it had to be chlorine gas. That's even weirder. [ Jack's got the mechanical stuff down, but Adam can at least help with the chemical side.

He gives up on the computer since he wouldn't be able to tell if it was salvageable anyway, then checks on what Jack and Luke have found. ]
Luke's right, the priority should be getting the power on.

[Thanks shrapnel. So maybe from the turret or somebody stole a gun. Great. Cool. He's not liking that and he shakes his head, reaching out to touch the cube and getting some of the oil on his fingers.]

Gross...[He's just going to try and smell it? Just to check? Gods help him.] We have chlorine because of the pool so that wouldn't be too hard to mess with. And we know there's all kinds of other chemicals laying around here but I can't figure out how they would have mixed something volatile enough to explode that much.

[He frowns, looking for anything noticeable. ] We should do one more sweep and then figure out what everybody else found. Go from there.

[ Jack nods, but he'll probably be lingering longer at whatever he's chilling at with the computer itself. He's willing to be pretty patient here, even if it's in the dark, since he figures if he can find anything, he can make do with something. Of course, then some freaky shit happens, but whatever. We had a good time up until then. ]
