MOTIVE
Good morning, travelers. I trust you all twenty-one of you are well. I am here to announce this week's motive.
[ There is a small pause, as if she must take a moment to clear her throat before continuing. ]
In H.G. Wells' The Time Machine, we are introduced to an English scientist and inventor living in Surrey during the Victorian Era of England. He is only identified as the Time Traveler, and in the beginning of Wells' serial novel, he presents his dinner guests with a tabletop model of a time traveling machine. The following week, he returns with stories and adventures, all so remarkable that one would be forgiven for not believing them. However, The Time Machine's narrator explains that he has gone back in time in the past week, to A.D. 802, 701, where his time machine was stolen and he was forced to retrieve it from the Morlocks, a menacing race who are hiding his machine in something that looks rather like a Sphinx. During his adventure, The Time Traveler encounters a young girl who he saves and attempts to care for. She slips two strange white flowers into his pockets, and dies later. The Time Traveler bests the Morlock, and returns to the Victorian Era, and though his dinner guests do not believe him, he is able to produce the two flowers from his pockets.
The Time Traveler used his machine to impact the lives of a civilization past. Given the ability to go back and change something, what would you do, travelers? As I ask this of you, I will state your terms and conditions. You will be permitted the ability to change one thing about your history should you kill and get away with it this week. Should no one kill this week, every remaining player's greatest achievement in life will be undone. I do wonder what your life would be like had you not succeeded at that time...
[Each player's datapad will be uploaded with a video or description of their greatest achievement and a brief video of a snippet of their life in a world where they failed. Similarly to the secrets last week, this will be private and only accessible to them.]
