WEEK 9 - Trial

the pygmalion. . .

ONLINE

CAPTAIN'S LOG:
WEEK (9)

saturday TRIAL DAY ONE

(19) survivors

At 9 AM, a klaxon alarm begins blaring in every area of the ship. The alarm will continue to go off until everyone has gathered in the conference room. Should anyone be running late or avoiding the trial for whatever reason, a robot guide will appear wherever they are and gently but firmly escort them into the room. Once all the living players are present, the conference room doors will lock shut; anyone who wishes to leave for whatever reason will need to ask AL-2955 or one of the robots. Anyone leaving for non-investigative purposes, such as bathroom breaks, will be accompanied by a robot escort.

The large round table in the center of the conference room has been set up to help the trial run as smoothly as possible. Three holographic screens hover above the center hollow of the table, visible from every angle. The first screen displays the pictures and profiles of the suspects and victim; the second displays the autopsy report; the third displays a blank word processor. Each of the chairs comes equipped with a virtual keyboard which can be used to type information directly into the third screen, such as theories and updated information; they can also be set into privacy mode, which will transfer whatever notes someone writes directly into their datapad instead of on screen. There's also a tablet function for those who wish to draw charts or pictures on screen. The keyboards will detect the DNA of whoever's using them and record who's typed what - simply press an area of text and the name of whoever wrote it will pop up.

The area to the right of the table has been temporarily sectioned off with a glass partition and sliding door for hygienic issues. Inside, the victim's body has been laid out on a metal autopsy table, covered by a plastic sheet. Above it is a holographic screen that displays a close-up color photograph of the body when it was found. A hand sanitizer dispenser has been considerately attached to the wall nearby for anyone getting up close and personal to the body.

To the left of the conference table is a display case. Any evidence found during the investigation will be carefully collected by the robots at some point the previous day and placed here before the trial starts. Beneath each piece of evidence is a small tablet where players can type up information, such as a short description or where it was found. There are also empty areas left over for any evidence that may be found during the trial. The shelf at the very bottom of the case has been reserved for an extra rulebook in case anyone needs it.

Food will be served throughout the day by the robots, who will take individual orders whenever you're feeling hungry. The trial will end at 9:00 PM, at which point all players will have been expected to cast their vote.

Ran some experiments. [He just gives Adrien a short grin.] Had to make sure we knew what we were up against, you know? It's fine.
monsieurchatastrophe: (just feel that summer breeze)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's not fine! [you know what he has nothing to throw but he is suddenly hastily TAKING OFF HIS SHOE AND THROWING IT AT LUKE] Don't blow yourself up for a test, what's wrong with you?!

[ZERO PERCENT HYPOCRISY]
chiseler: (I have one foot out & one foot almost in)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
[He can't even move fast enough right now so that shoe probably hits him right in the head. But he picks it up and holds it, giving Adrien a flat look.]

...c'mere. I'm not getting up and you're not getting this back otherwise. [Adrien come the fuck here what is wrong with YOU.]
monsieurchatastrophe: (it's like 7:15)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
[he looks like he is torn between feeling a little bad about the shoe and being GLAD IT HIT LUKE IN THE HEAD!!! HE DESERVES IT!! but he does walk over to stand in front of Luke and and holds his hand out awkwardly wHY DO YOU HAVE AN ICON FOR THIS?]

[muttering petulantly] Lucky I didn't throw both of them.
chiseler: (it was really only you)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
[bc luke's dad gave him flying shoes as a gift once. #canon Anyway he's already dizzy and being hit in the head doesn't help, but it's fine. Adrien gets close enough and Luke shoves the shoe in his hand before shifting slowly to drag him in for a one-armed hug. Deal with it, you little shit.]

You throw both of your shoes at me, you're not getting either of them back. And you don't think you'd do whatever it took to try and solve this case? Try and tell me that with a straight face, Adrien.
monsieurchatastrophe: (& darts & baking)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Adrien has this fun weird depressing thing with hugs and ... any physical contact from people he likes where he kind of freezes like he's unsure what to do for a second or, rather, if he's even allowed to do anything before he kind of just... melts into it and becomes super clingy so. you get that, Luke. You get that. He uh. Also might be shaking a little bit.]

...Could've at least tried asking Alice about it.

[but he's not denying the accusation that he'd definitely blow himself up shh. shhhhhh]
chiseler: (what's worth forgiving?)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Poor cat. Luke sort of expected that to be fair so he's not too bothered by it. It's half the reason he made Adrien drag himself over in the first place because worrying people is still something he doesn't entirely think through anymore. He'll tighten his arm to be a more reassuring kind of grip, but he's still giving Adrien a pretty flat look.]

You always pick what parts of the question you wanna answer? Anyway, I still don't know if she would have told me that.
monsieurchatastrophe: (if I have time to spare)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[being called out on his #1 avoidance technique does make him untangle himself so he can give Luke his own flat look]

You could've tried. Or started off smaller than "certain death explosions". [is he once again ignoring the part of the question he doesn't want to answer? -- ah, no, he's looking away with a shrug] I'm not that good of a liar. Omission is... a lot easier.

[that admission is also his apology for the shoe. a bit of honesty that uh kinda shows off how surprisingly dishonest he might be]
chiseler: (dominated by passerbys)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Look he does it too? So he lets Adrien go but he can't move much so there's that.]

Everybody's acting like this was the worst possible outcome. [He's having a hard time with "people actually care." He frowns a little in response but at least it's an answer he can live with.]

...take it from a really, really good liar. Lies by omission are a lot easier to clean up than lies you get caught in and can't get back out of. At least omission leaves less tracks.
monsieurchatastrophe: (and I'm halfway through it)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's not about what the outcome is, it's what it could've been. [duh???? he's going to just put his shoe back on when he answers the next part so he doesn't have to look at Luke when he does]

Is that supposed to mean you approve? 'Cause that's not reassuring.
chiseler: (do you think)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I know my limits. I promise. [Man he keeps throwing that word around a lot.] And I'm not saying I approve too much, no. I'm just saying some lies are better than others. Lies by omission mean losing sleep and maybe doing some stupid things. Lies that're real lies get you blown up. [He looks at him sharply anyway.] But lies by omission can quickly turn into bigger lies. You don't want that either, do you?
monsieurchatastrophe: (start on the chores and sweep)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
You definitely don't. [but he's not going to argue about it more. instead he just looks at Luke blankly.] Don't worry about me, I'm not going to evade myself in over my head. I've got it under control.

[okay now that one is just. that is just an outright lie.]
chiseler: (what's worth forgiving?)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
[...sorry, he's absolutely laughing to himself.]

Oh yeah? And what counts as under control?
monsieurchatastrophe: (look at the world so close)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
[jokingly:]

The screaming is only internal? [shrugs] I don't want to make things worse on anyone by worrying them too much. If I started to go overboard, wouldn't it show?
chiseler: (when the traffic's stuck)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're missing the part where people are going to worry even worse if you don't talk to them. Looks way more suspicious than if you said "hey I need help." The last thing you both wanna do is get to a point where it's too late to ask for something like that.
monsieurchatastrophe: (then I'll stretch maybe sketch)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[oh, man, you talked about both, that gives him a chance to slyly slide in to talk about his gf. why would you do that. omission is too strong.]

She... [sigh] Marinette doesn't trust a lot of people left here, after everything. She's always taking the world on by herself. [and he, clearly, isn't??] But we're partners. We tell each other these things. That's enough for now.

[it's a lie edging on the truth and the worst thing about murder game is adrien just getting better at evasive lies kill me]
chiseler: (nothing left to lose)

[personal profile] chiseler 2016-08-07 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's used to teenagers coming in pairs these days, shit.]

Is that right. [He has to wonder about that, seeing how he's narrowing his eyes anyway.] That means you've told her exactly how you feel about this trial and everything to do with it?
monsieurchatastrophe: (I'll paint the walls some more)

[personal profile] monsieurchatastrophe 2016-08-07 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[... he looks away]

Not... yet, but. It's kinda hard to have a conversation with someone who's asleep? She knows what I think anyway.
